Pacquiao vs. Marquez now official

By Chris Williams: According to boxing news from Steve Kim, the November 12th match-up between 37-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao will now go ahead, as Golden Boy Promotions won’t be matching the offer made to Marquez by Top Rank.
However, with the catchweight of 144 pounds that Arum had put in the contract for the Pacquiao-Marquez, in addition to the big money Marquez was guaranteed, it made it difficult for Golden Boy to match this offer because they don’t have a huge star near that weight.
This is good news for Pacquiao and Marquez fans, because they’ve been waiting for three years for this rematch to happen and now it finally is taking place. The only question is whether Marquez is too old now and too small to beat Pacquiao.
With the fight taking place at 144 instead of a weight nearer to Marquez’s 135, it gives Pacquiao a huge advantage over Marquez. But this is the best that Marquez can get. I suppose he should be happy that the fight isn’t taking place at the full 147, because they could have done with him.
Giving Marquez a tiny advantage with the weight being dropped to 144 probably won’t be nearly enough for him to win the fight. For him to have a reasonable chance of winning, the fight would have to be at 135 or close to it. Pacquiao is far too big for him now and without giving Marquez a nice catchweight handicap, which Pacquiao has benefited from in the past while fighting for major titles at welterweight and junior middleweight, Marquez doesn’t have a chance. He’s too old and too small now. He needs the handicap like Pacquiao has had going for him in some of his fights against fellow Top Rank stable fighters.

Pacquiao was great at 122, 126 and 130 lbs. Ever since he became a welter weight Bob Arum has been cherry picking for him. Win lose or draw Pacquiao it going to fight Marquez. This fight it going to have fire works. I don’t know who is going to win but it going to be a great fight. I’ll even pay to watch this fight. Not to take anything away from Pacquiao but watching him fight Clottey and Mosley looke more like they took the money to loose. Mosley statement about Pacquiao power was just an excuse. He fought Mayorga and Margarito and he was concern with Pacquioa power, BS. Mosley stole the fans money.

Weight is not an issue, Marquez can come in at 140 lbs or less should he wish, and Manny will probably weigh around that limit, 142 or 143 probably…When Manny fought Cotto, a catchweight of 145 lbs was agreed..His fights with Dela Hoya was not a catchweight. It was fought at the regular welterweight limit. Hatton at light welterweight limit. If you had followed it closely, only his fight with Cotto and Margarito are catchweights.
Marquez learned his lesson when he fought Floyd. Now he knows he can’t come in heavy.
This fight should have happened after the second but its good its at least happening. Maybe it’ll start where it left off….challenging both pac n jmm to dig deep n bring there best. Marquez had to have learned something from when mayweather schooled him. Pacquiao poison!

Are you serious about stating that a catch weight is useless??? A boxers walking weight is NOT the same as one’s fighting weight. This is a huge advantage for MP and the reason is because it has become his normal fight weight. We all saw how terrible JMM looked the last time he went north of his 135lb limit. The sad part is JMM will jump at any chance to have another shot at fighting MP. JMM will be slow flat footed and will not counter MP effectively. JMM is a better boxer but MP is the better puncher.

I guess i am one of the few people that believe Manny beat JMM both times. Albeit both fights were incredibly close and if Marquez didnt touch the canvas 4 times in their 2 fights he would have an argument here. But he did, so he doesn’t. End of that story.
Now on to the present. Im not sure why Marquez fans and certain writers are complaining about the catchweight. Marquez can train like he normally does for a fight at 135 and a day before weigh in stop and start eating as usual. Then when he weighs in it will be around 144. I mean thats what happens during every fight, after the weigh in the fighters put on like 10lbs so i dont see the problem. As far as Pac being bigger, i believe that JMM has the size advantage still. He has always had a bigger frame than Manny in the prev. 2 fights and this one will be no different. Including the outcome. Except he may be knocked down for good this time.
Bottom line is this is a lose lose situation for Pac. Cause even when he defeats JMM for a third time. Everyone will say he was too old, too small and not at his weight.
My opinion, forget Marquez and fight maybe a Tim Bradley, it would more than likely be an easier fight and he wouldn’t have to hear any of the b.s.
Bottom line is Manny set the terms.
Everyone that fights Manny is looking for the BIG PAY DAY.
Since Manny hold all the cards, he sets the terms. Manny’s current ideal fight weight is 144-147lbs … so if you want the MONEY you know there will be a catch weight for bigger fighters.
In case of JMM, Manny agree to go to his lowest comfortable fighting weight which is 144lbs. If JJM is afraid to take Manny on at 144lbs and lose the pay day then he can.

What i dont undersftand is that everyone gave floyd so much credit for fighting mosely, marquez, hatton. Everyone was saying how good fighters they were and how well floyd did to beat them. Now Paq fights them within only a short time difference and performs better, but he gets no credit. Chris has been crusading in recent years or so for JMM to be given the opportunity to fight Manny for the 3rd time.
JMM blew his chance last time by asking too much pay. Now that every thing is in place, Chris is saying JMM is too small and have gone older. It wasn’t that long when Chris has been saying JMM is the best to fight Manny after a string of wins vs Diaz and Katsidis. The point is, from this point on Chris will write that JMM is now on the downtrend of his career and that Pacman is piling up advantages by fighting at his true weight and not at 135lbs.

Size doesn’t matter anymore with this 2 fighters because they came from the same weight. PAC usually weigh 145-146lbs at fight night and JMM can weigh 143-145lbs at fight night. Its the skills of both fighters that matter now. This one is a good fight!
