Pacquiao “Crazy” to Fight Cotto

pac43333By Don Ramos: Pacquiao got to be crazy to fight someone like Miguel Cotto. In just two weeks (on November 14), boxing fans worldwide will see if the #1 P4P King really has it what it takes to take on probably his biggest challenge yet.

The statistics are all in favor of Cotto winning. Cotto is the bigger, stronger and younger fighter, factors which give a boxer a huge advantage over the opponent. A natural welterweight, Cotto would have no problem fighting at the agreed catchweight of 145lbs. He will not be dehydrated and would be in peak condition for the fight.

Except for his controversial loss to Margarito, who was later found cheating, Cotto is unbeaten and the best in his division. He has beaten the likes of Mosley, Judah and Clottey, all first-class welterweights. Cotto would give anyone a hard time, even Mayweather, who avoided meeting him on the ring.

Cotto is also focused in winning. He started training long before Pacquiao hit the gym. He trains hard and consistently. He is the hungrier fighter, wanting the respect of boxing fans all over and wrestle the P4P title from Pacquiao.

Some detractors would try to discredit Cotto and say that he was”broken” by his loss to Margarito, that he is no longer the same boxer. Cotto knows what is at stake with this fight and will bring in his very best in this fight.

Cotto has everything that it takes to win: youth, size, strength, focus; a boxer at the prime of his career.

So is Pacquiao indeed crazy and risking too much? Of course he is. What makes Pacquiao well-loved is his gutsiness and heart to challenge only the best. He does not shirk and choose his challengers, which he could have given his status. He could have toyed with smaller boxers or even someone his size. But no, he fights someone who could potentially beat him, risking it all.

He comes to the ring ready to engage, not dance around. It will be a bloodmatch between two great fighters. At the end of the day, Pacquiao would pull off yet another great victory, with his detractors forgetting the advantages and strengths of his opponent and then ultimately come up with the same lame excuses they gave for Dela Hoya and Hatton.

My prediction: Pacquiao to win by KO before Round 5.
