Pacquiao Says He Wins No Matter What Cotto Does
By Manuel Perez: Manny Pacquiao says he prepared for any strategy that Miguel Cotto elects to use in their November 14th fight, saying “If I press the fight I’m sure he [Cotto] would run. And if I wait, he’ll come in. That is what will happen, if he either runs or takes the fight to me, it’s all right with me.” So in other words, Pacquiao sounds like he’s maybe too confident right now.
To hear Pacquiao tell it, he’s going to dominate Cotto, a bigger and stronger fighter, as if Pacquiao is fighting one of his super featherweight opponents. Pacquiao seems to forget that he hasn’t yet fought the best in the welterweight or even the light welterweight divisions.
If Pacquiao believes that Oscar De La Hoya was one of the best welterweights in boxing at the time that he fought him, then Pacquiao needs to have someone sit him down break the bad news to him about Oscar. De La Hoya wasn’t one of the best welterweights or one of the best light middleweights at the time that Pacquiao got to him. De La Hoya may have been ranked high by the sanctioning bodies, but that doesn’t mean anything.
If you have put De La Hoya in with someone like Alfredo Angulo and James Kirkland, Oscar would have been probably massacred even worse than what Pacquiao. Of course it would be worse, those fighters could punch a hole through a wall and would make quick work of De La Hoya.
Okay, so De La Hoya was like a mummified fighter that was still there in body but his ability had left him a long time ago before Pacquiao decided to fight him. The same goes for Hatton. He had been showing cracks in his game since he was defeated by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007.
Besides that, look at the fighters that Hatton had chose to fight since beating Kostya Tszyu in 2005: Carlos Maussa, Luis Collazo, whom he beat by a questionable 12 round decision, Juan Urango, Jose Luis Castillo, Mayweather, Juan Lazcano and Paulie Malignaggi. Out of all those names, I consider only the fight against Mayweather as a true world class opponent.
Hatton somehow conveniently missed fighting top light welterweights during that time like Timothy Bradley, Kendall Holt, Marcos Maidana, Victor Ortiz, Junior Witter, and Ricardo Torres. It looks like Hatton was steering away from the most dangerous fighters in the division for the most part and taking on easier opponents.
Okay, so the win over Hatton is no big deal because he hadn’t proven that he was still among the best in the division in the past three years. He was riding along on his past resume alone rather than still proving that he was the best.

hey guys! the more you react to perez’ articles the more he/she will carry on winding you up.
Lets all make our own judgements for ourselves. As i have stated in previous comments around this site I totally admire what Pac has achieved to date in boxing. Unfortunately I believe he has bitten off a bit more than he can chew in taking on arguably the best in this division (Cotto)
From the off Pac will probably have the better of the early exchanges running into around the 4th/5th rounds. From here on in realizing he has given out his best shots and Cotto is still standing in front of him this will have a demoralising effect. Cotto will slowly drain Pacs stamina and wear the warrior down alternating to head and body (I am not saying Cotto will hit him with every shot) but the shots that land will have an impact on Pacs movement.
Come round 9/10 Cotto will stop the Pacman with a barrage of punches against the ropes.
I’m no expert but that’s my view of things to come. Nov 14th please hurry up i can’t wait good luck to both guys
I agree with John, Angulo is a very exciting boxer and he throws bombs!
Yeah, unless if Cotto hits him with left hook to body followed by a head shot!
I fancy Pacquiao to win by mid to late stoppage but its perfectly possible that Cotto could stop Pacquiao if things go his way
zee zee you are a dumb… how you predict a ko when Margarito needed blocks on his gloves to ko Cotto?? i dont think pacman has what it takes to KO Cotto. Clottey didnt KO Cotto. Dont talk using your opinion use FACTS!!! and you will win the argument.
I think Alfredo Angulo would mop the floor with Pac Man!
MANUEL I DONT EVEN READ YOUR ARTICLES ANYMORE MAN BECAUSE YOU ARE SO BUYIST AT WHO WILL WIN THE FIGHT AND YOU DONT EVEN LOOK AT THE SCIENCE MAN. EARN YOUR CREDABILITY BECAUSE YOU LOST IT AMIGO
A little advice to all Filipino fans who are really caught up in the hype.
1.Remember, the more you believe Pac is invincible, the harder it will be to accept his defeat.
2. Your heart can betray you, so talk with your head.
3. Remember to be his fan even after he’s defeated.
4. Don’t drink too much come fight night cause you’ll have to wait a week and catch the replay to understand what went wrong.
I’m not saying he’s going to lose but if you take my advice you’ll be a step closer to being a real BOXING FAN.
Cottos puerto rican not mexican
when dis fight was 1st announced i thought pac would destroy cotto. but wit all da recent distractions around pac and roach goin into camp my thinkin has changed
The writer must have lost all his bets against manny. Poor you…
Manuel Perez must have lost all his bets against manny. Poor you…
It’s true that Pac is still drunk with his past hyped wins over ricky and oscar. So, he confidently thinks he has the plan to beat Cotto.
In reality, Cotto is the best welter out there having defeated speedy fighters like Mosley and Judah. He is the hardest hitting welter able to snap Pac’s head off.
He knows defense as well with very counterpunching ability comparable to Marquez.
Imagine when Cotto counters Pacquiao and hits him harder than Marquez. Pacquiao survived Marquez outboxing him last time but with Cotto’s superpower blows, I don’t think Pacquiao will have a chance to get up. Cotto can floor Pacquiao anytime.
Hey Manuela,
Keep coming with your non-sense blog. By the way did you change your diaper already.. you stinks!
Wow! This Manuel Perez guy is racist…
the auther is a mexican racist mtf.
Trouble is Pacnuts really believe Pac is invincible judging from his fights with Dela Hoya and Hatton. Few expected the kind of whupping ODLH suffered from Manny, but it was more due to ODLH’s big name, that he was overestimated.
Whoever bought the only selling point for Hatton — “naturally bigger”, whatever the flock that means! — was as deluded as Hatton himself. Hatton’s name has been waaaaay bigger than his ability. People are saying he is shot. No, he is not. He is overrated.
Back to Pacquiao believing he can beat Cotto. He will get a wake up call on Nov 14. Wait… make that Nov 15, he ain’t waking up till the next day. LoL. Yeah, the Pacnuthuggers who are feeding such load of crank into Manny, are partly to blame — which is a fair karma to all of them rude numbskulls. And Pac gets half the blame — which is a fair karma… for showing his ugly face on tv in a sitcom… and having her mom show her ugly wrinkled face too. LoL. The nerve of some people.
WOW!!! some of you boneheads bash manuel perez calling him an idiot hmmm I wonder who is the bigger idiot. Cotto is Puerto Rican not a Mexican. That would be no different than saying Manny is Chinese.
“Filipino boxers… the few, the selected elite and the greatest”
LOL. One!, that’s it!.
hey zee zee, pacman to win via tko in the 11th?
Please, he can’t finish the job after knocking a man down 3 times in the first round, how could you possibly even imagine that he will last that long against a bigger and true elite welter?
He’s lucky they didn’t allow Oscar de la Hoya use his cane in their fight, that would have made it a fair event. He should stick to fighting overrated bums and old people so he suceeds all the time.
Hey manny, keep running from your worst nightmare, Marquez is gonna catch up eventually punk!.
angulo better than pacman – that dude is a joke!!
When and if Pacquiao beats Cotto, I am sure that it will be because he was already exposed by Margarito. That’s a valid excuse, isn’t it?
the pacman is a living legend, hell only have one last challenge to prove after he beats cotto and that is to beat mayweather (whos gunna kick marquez`s arse). HE has beaten three great fighters in marquez, hatton and de la hoya and the missing name from his list is mayweather. Now that would be a real challenge for pacquiao and for mayweather as well!!!!! A REAL fight between TWO living legends!!!!
I agree with POkemon, Alfredo is fighting in NOVEMBER I believe against undefeated fighter Harry Joe Yorgey I can’t wait for this bout!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the 7th.
UR right ALFREDO ANGULO would have demolished Delahoya
may i ask what manuela is writing about? zzzzzzz….
Manuela, if you think pacquiao is overconfident you need to have yourself checked by a psychiatrist. you are consumed by your preoccupation with pacquiao. it is not healthy anymore! you are putting words into pacquiao’s mouth! get a life manuela!
Pac luks far too big in this pic lol
Pacquiao and the filipino boxers rules…
Thanks Manuel for another funny joke of the day.
Hahahahaha!!!!
Hey Manuel Perez,
It is true what the earlier guy (HOPE) said that you are becoming a laughable stock because your bias is so obvious, it is becoming more ridiculous each time. Keep them coming so we can all enjoy your stupidity – it makes my day thinking that my high school daughter can write better and more objective articles than a professional guy like you.
It is true that there’s a lot of mexican boxers than filipino boxers. But those that are really great are of the likes of Pacquiao. It’s like saying that there’s a lot of privates than generals in the army. And those that act as the generals are the few.
“Filipino boxers… the few, the selected elite and the greatest”.
Cotto is only slightly bigger than Pacquiao. He has bigger frame and bigger bones. This is why he is slower. His punches may be heavy but they have no snap as Pacquiao’s do. Pacquiao is much faster and has one-punch KO power in both hands.
In comparison, Cotto has to attack the body to waer down Pacquiao. It’s easy to do this if the Pacquiao stood still.
Nobody knows for sure who is stonger.
Pacquiao is confident of winning because he saw first hand at ringside Cotto’s strengths and weaknesses. I see this fight ending no differently from Pacquiao’s last three.
I think you know how the fight will end, or at least are worried about the outcome as all Cotto’s fans are.
As Ali said: “…His hands can’t hit what his eyes can’t see.”
Pacquiao will be to fast for Cotto. If Pacquiao doesn’t KO Cotto, he will definitly win on points.
Pacquiao shouldn’t belittle Cotto or he will loss this match. And saying that he doesn’t belittle Cotto is not enough. He should really mean it. Ant right now it shows that Pacquiao is walking with a little over self confidence with him. What he is saying that he is 100% with respect to Cotto is just crap. His actions doesn’t show it.
Hatred is an obsession. Whatever facts you slap on the face of a non believer will still prove him nothing for he is enveloped with all this jealousy and hatred. Why dont you put all your hard earned money where your mouth is mr. Perez?! Will promise to write an apology note and to never ever write a story again if pacquiao wins?
I bety manuela will say that cotto is a has been after pacquiao destroyed him. we cant blame manuela he is a mexican . pacman destreoys all the mex figther. Sorry manuela all u can do rigth now is destroy pacman in ur writing. but u know the truth that pacman will destroy cotto. so prepare for ur reasoning that cotto was a has been or what ever u can come out with.
Can Manure Perez write and article without mentioning Pacquiao even once? He’s about as bad as Mayweather and Marqueza. All three need to talk about Pacquiao to even be relevant.
I don’t care what Pacquiao does, he will always be a loser because he’s not Mexican. Julio Caesar Chavez and Juan Manuel Marquez are the greatest boxers ever. Only Mexicans are great boxers. Any other races suck.
PACMAN to win via TKO 11.
pacman down in the 4th,
cotto down in the 10th
MANNY finishes cotto in the 11.
no one can doubt cotto’s skill and determination, nor his confidence. he is as sure of a victory as pac is. neither of those fighters would have taken the fight if either thought he would lose. and actually, i’d been thinking that most of what manny has been saying lately has been to downplay his prediction quite a bit. here’s a quote by manny from the P.R. press conference: “No one knows who is going to win this fight. We are both going deliver our best efforts which will give the fans an excellent show.” i don’t think either fighter is getting ahead of himself. both realize the risks that the other presents, but, as all great warriors, both are determined that his own skills will win. of course, only one of them will be right, and that is what makes boxing to entertaining!
Why do you allways point flaws in Pacs past opposition after he beats them… Before its like they cant lose there too big, too strong but after he destroys them therr shot and weak you make i laugh i tell thee.
your an idiot. when pacquiao fought Hatton you said none of the above stuff about how hatton hasn’t fought anyone good, now look. your a bloody fool
that is why i like manuel perez: he says what are the areas pacquiao needs to look at and to consider to win against cotto.
