Mosley Still Ready to Fight Pacquiao – News
By Manuel Perez: With Manny Pacquiao’s recent problems with WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto not wanting to put his title on the line for the fight, Pacquiao might want to look in another direction towards World Boxing Association welterweight champion Shane Mosley, who said that he’s more than willing to still fight Pacquiao. On Thursday night at the GBP fight at the Club Nokia, Mosley said “Tell them (Pacquiao, Bob Arum and Freddie Roach) what I offered is still on the table. The ball is in their court.”
Pacquiao is upset with Cotto, his scheduled opponent for November 14th, because Cotto won’t agree to put his WBO title on the line at the 145 pound catch weight that the two fighters agreed on. Although Cotto agreed to fight Pacquiao at the lower weight, nothing was ever said about the title being on the line. Technically, 145 falls in the range of the welterweight limit (141-147), but it’s two pounds below the upper limit.
This may not mean much for some people, especially fans of Pacquiao, but what it means for Cotto is that he would be forced to come in at 145 instead of 147. The extra weight that Cotto would have to trim off to squeeze into the 145 pound limit might hurt him and cause him to be weakened for the fight. Naturally, that’s the whole point of there being a catch weight.
In other words, so that Cotto will be weaker than he usually is Pacquiao would have a better chance at winning, because without a catch weight, Cotto would likely beat the stuffing out of Pacquiao. However, with the 145 limit, it effectively changes the whole dynamics of the welterweight title bout, changing the established rules so that Pacquiao could have things his way. it’s hardly fair from my view of things and I don’t blame Cotto for telling Pacquiao to forget fighting for a title unless the fight has the upper limit of 147.
If the fight with Cotto fails to proceed any further, I highly doubt that Pacquiao will fight Mosley, even though Mosley has already said that he’d fight Pacquiao at a 141 pound catch weight and take the much smaller 40% share of the revenue despite being the champion. I think it doesn’t matter what weight or what percentage of the revenue that Mosley is willing to give to Pacquiao, the Filipino won’t be fighting him.
The reason is Mosley is fighting well and recently defeated Antonio Margarito in a 9th round stoppage earlier this year. Pacquiao probably won’t want to risk fighting a talented fighter like Mosley. Pacquiao much prefers fighting Cotto, who was badly beaten last year and struggled in winning a controversial 12-round split decision over Joshua Clottey in his last fight.
The reasons for choosing Cotto are pretty obvious, although it does make Pacquiao look like a cherry picker to some boxing fans. I say it now, Pacquiao will not fight Mosley if the bout with Cotto doesn’t happen. Instead, look for Pacquiao to find someone else to fight. Who knows? Maybe Pacquiao can drag De La Hoya out of retirement for another bout.
Pacquiao really wants a chance winning a 7th world title for some reason. Although I don’t know what his preoccupation with winning a 7th world title is all about because I have no clue who most of the fighters are that Pacquiao defeated to pick up his other belts.
Pacquiao needs to give in to Cotto and fight at 147 instead of the 145 pound catch weight.

I hope Pac agrees to 147, the true welterweight. It will be a short night for lil pac, he will get his ass knocked out. If pac is a true Champ then he will fight at 147
As always, Perez is right about Pacquiao. But none of these Pactards will ever, ever, ever listen to wisdom. Give up already, Mr. Perez.
1. Like I mentioned yesterday- the title will be on the line. The WBO just announced today that the title will be at stake. Pacman has a chance to win 7 world championship belts and Cotto can’t duck him from that chance anymore.
2. Cotto fought at 146lbs in his last fight against a bigger man. The agreed upon weight is 145lbs. Plus Cotto said he will come in over 150lbs easily on fight night. He’s trying to use weight as a smokescreen and everyone is falling for it. On fight night you will not see a weight drained, weak, old Cotto. You will see Cotto in prime condition.
3. No excuses, when that bell rings Cotto will be in a world of trouble. There is no “well lets fight at this weight”, “lets fight without the belt on the line.” It’s set for 145lbs at weight ins, bring your belt, and your lunch money. Cotto WILL be over 150lbs at fight night and its going to be over 150lbs of meat stretched out on the canvas. Weight is not an issue so come up with a better excuse!
Mosley is the MAN !!!!!!! Manny Pacman doesn’t have one tenth of Mosley’s heart. You don’t see Shane complaining about weight ,money etc. Shane has always stepped up to the plate thruout his career. Manny’s recent i’ll fight you if you do this & that is an embarassment to boxing. If manny does end up fighting Shane …which I doubt. Shane will make pacman look foolish. GOD BLESS you Shane for being the true champ you are. You will be missed when you retire. I wish more Fighters would model themselves after shanes attitude.
ok, you guys (PAC FANS)if you think welterweight begins 141 to 147, let see it this way.cotto is the welterweight champion lets fight at 147.if two pounds is not too much pac can get two more pounds, remember cotto is the champion if pac wants to fight and get the 7 title and do it if not stop to cry and move on and don’t prented to be the pound for pound king.pac fought the super oscar at 147 in he’s prime or not, why not the weaker cotto ahahahahah
King Khan would lay the smackdown on these fools
Liam Santiago and Manuel Perez, please don’t use Manny Pacquiao’s name just to be famous and earn a lots of money. I’m starting to lose my respect in this website.
…i’m just wondering why they put a level on the weights, say welterweight level is from min of 141 to max of 147 and yet when a fighter ask to make a weight of 145, most people are crying that it is a catch weight? if this range of 141-147 is a welterweight then the fighters can fight within this range isn’t it? and also if a fighter insist on the maximum weight fo 147 for a welterweight fight, then by all means during the fight night both fighters should be weighing an exact 147 lbs, no more no less. they should not be allowed to gain more weight during the fight night of more than the prescribed maximum weight for each category otherwise if a fighter figthing for a 147 lbs welterweight division will be overweight during the fight night then he should not wear the belt anymore as the fighter should be fighting under the middleweight division already, isn’t it? so if cotto wishes to really fight and depend the title at welterweight, then be it but he should weight exactly 147 lbs on the fight night not 148 or 150 or 160 but 147 lbs, so i guess this will really be an acceptable deal for both fighter. 147 lbs on fightnight should be the deal, period. HAPPY MR. PEREZ?
chill people. I know it’s hard to control your anger to this writer especially when you’ll be reading an article like this. I just couldnt get it why this writer HATES pacquiao so much ! seriously, he can be the no. 1 numero uno pound-4-pound MANNY PACQUIAO HATER of the world. come on man give the man some love for f**k sake.
FYI, COTTO was the one who asked for the 145 catch weight and not PACQUIAO. I strongly believe that 145 is the best weight for this two fighters to meet cos 143 will be too low for COTTO and 147 will be too high for PAC. Just look at the first time pac fought at 147 vs delahoya, he weigh in at 142 lbs. 5 lbs below the limit. which means PACQUIAO’s natural fighting weight is at 140. COTTO on the other hand weigh in at 146 on his last fight. so to make it an even field for this two fighters to meet, they have to set a catch weight of 145. This is just fair for both fighters as COTTO will only be sacrificing a pound while PACQUIAO sacrifice will be by facing a much bigger and stronger guy. Come on guys this will be a great fight. a war indeed !
About the belt, i guess COTTO just doesnt want to pay the sactioning fee cos why would he be afraid of defending it at 145 if he knows to himself that he can defeat PACQUIAO especially that he’s only going down a pound and being the bigger guy at fight time. so to get this over and done with, I suggest bob arum should step in and just pay for the fee. In my opinion, a fight of this magnitude deserves to be a title fight(more props). and for the rest of us, seat back, relax and enjoy this amazing fight.
**I’m rooting for PACQUIAO but I’m giving these two extra ordinary fighters a 50/50 chance of winning.
I wonder what would you all (esp. Perez) say when Pacquiao agrees to fight at 147 and knocks Cotto TFO on Round 4 or 5… hmmm…
I think all the Pac-Haters will say, Cotto wasn’t the same after the Margarito or Clottey bout… You know what, even if Manny wins a fight against the Klitschko Bros on a 2-against-1 match, these Pac-Haters would still find excuses… hell, if Pac beats Kasparov in a Chess match, they would still say crap about Pac.
You can’t please everybody.
Go Pac Go!
they are not a true boxing fans but Pacquiao groupies
I just about had it with these f*****g Pacquiao fans
“HOW CAN YOU LET A 147 POUND GUY FIGHT A 165 POUND GUY THAT IS JUST SIMPLY UNFAIR”
CRY ME A F*****G RIVER, LAST TIME I CHECKED ITS PACQUIAO THAT CHALLENGED COTTO. AND ALL YOU LOSERS WANT TO DO IS HANDICAP COTTO SO THAT ‘THE COWARD’ PACQUIAO CAN GET A EASY VICTORY.
Pacquiao should man up and drop the ridiculous demand for ANY catchweight.
And any moron that proposes a weight-in on the night of the fight should be shot, as that is the most absurd idea I have ever heard, and its another thing to handicap cotto. No state board will ever sign up for that, and of discussion.
I’m starting to think that these guys have no appreciation for what boxing is about.
Is cotto afraid he might lose? Is he coming into this fight with the mindset of a loser? If not, why wouldn’t he put up the belt? Besides if he loses, what’s the point of having a belt if he’s a loser anyway.
Nah! i definitely would rather see Pacquiao fight Cotto at 145 than fighting Marquez or Humberto Sotto at lowers weights
cotto is gonna knock pac back to general santos! no-way pac beats cotto‚even a washed up one.
cotto had to win the belt at 147 so should only defend it at 147 why dont you fools get it.
Also if anyone ducks fights it is def Mayweather, if he wants to come back for one more fight it has to be Mosely who is probably the most in form boxer other than Pacquaio, why come back for a guy that has never fought at Light welter let alone welterweight.
In terms of fighting at 145 or 147, it is a tiny difference to a guy like Cotto as this is his normal weight whereas Pacquiao is already going up massively from his natural weight. Cotto is putting road blocks in the way and to suggest Pacquiao avoids fights seems crazy as he will jump through the weights to fight the big names. Although Hatton may be fading he was still destroyed despite saying he was a better fighter than when he fought Mayweather.
poor mosley no one wants to fight him!
james, you’re really funny with your comments.
I am sick & tired of people saying that Cotto is afraid of fighting Manny at 145. The reality is that Cotto has fought Mosley, Margirito & clottey some of the biggest welterweights in boxing today. It is absurd to think that The warrior that cotto is, is afraid of the smaller Pacquiao. IT
Lol I agree, its always something when it comes to a Pac fight, He took this fught and now they want the belt on the line to make it seem like Cotto is ducking. Go fight Mosely Pac, you won’t have it easy and but he will fight you for what you want. I just don’t get why it’s always something when it comes to Pac and Roach. They want Floyd to take a 65-35 cut because they know they don’t want to fight Floyd so they use money split to duck Floyd. now they want to use Cotto title to duck him. It don’t matter, Pac you are going to have to fight someone if you are onsidered to be the Pound for Pound Champion, how every he got that. Floyd is the Pound for Pound King, so you need to fight Mosely or Cotto without making your own rules if you know you can beat them, which I don’t.
cotto only weighed in at 146 for his fight against clottey! 1lb is hardly is going to make any difference!
THANK YOU Insider..i dont know how many times i have read about someone complaining and saying that JMM won the second fight. First of all i have seen that fight a few times and everytime i watch it i score it myself with the same result, Pacman clearly won..further more why would anyone want to see a third fight? It’s only a good trilogy when the fighters split the first 2 and not for the scoring error it would have not been a DRAW!!!!!!!!!!
bernie, you are right! these writers get 1 cent a hit, if they make 1,000 hits in a month, they get $10.00. If I had to feed my wife and kids on the income, I would surely would write that pacquiao is overrated and really can’t beat anybody good.
Without a doubt, Pacquiao needs to fight Cotto for the title at 147 lbs to be the legit P4P. I think the media coverage of the haggling between Pacquiao and Cotto camps is great promo. Unfortunately, it takes away the headlines from the Mayweather Marquez fight.
M Perez, you need to heal your emotional wounds from the Marquez loses to Pacquiao and move on. Other than that, I enjoy your writing and obsession with Pacquiao. It is very entertaining and builds up the Cotto and Pacquiao fight to a frenzy.
He already gave two road blocks. First, he says he doesn’t want to pay the sanction fee. When Pacquiao said he would pay it, second, he says the belt is not on the line. The two have something in common: they work to prevent the fight from happening. So liampuckyoo may be right on target.
It’s Cotto who is out of sync, not Pacquiao, when discussing catchweight of 145.
Hey, have you ever wondered about Cotto? He won’t defend his title lower than 147? One more pound and he’d be at Jr Middle. Tell him to get his ass off head on to the Jr middle. As you acknowldege, the WW division ranges from 141 to 147. The 147 is not anymore bonifide than any of the other weights.
Cotto just doesn’t want to face Pacquiao in the ring. I wonder what his excuse will be if Pacqquiao agrees to 147.
