By William Lloyd: Lightweight prospect Campbell Hatton commented today on his controversial six round points decision over Sonni Martinez last Saturday night at Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium in London, England.

Speaking on social media two days after his controversial win, Hatton says he feels did enough to deserve the victory over Martinez, and he’s moving onto his next fight.

Referee Marcus McDonnell gave the 20-year-old Campbell (4-0) a close 58-75 points decision over Spaniard Sonni Martin (2-5). However, the fans saw it as an apparent robbery, as Martinez, 28, looked like the far better fighter of the two.

Many fans had it 5-1 in favor of Martinez, as he was countering the easy-to-hit Hatton all night. Martinez couldn’t miss with any of his shots because Campbell was leading with his face in the same style as his famous father Ricky Hatton.

Matchroom Boxing is going to need to put Campbell in with weaker opposition than they did last Saturday if they don’t want to see him get beaten. The young Hatton lacks the punching power of his dad Ricky, and he’s not equipped to tangle with fighters that can punch a little.

“I wasn’t happy with it. I think he pushed some rounds close,” said Campbell Hatton to DAZN following his questionable win over Martin.

“I definitely don’t think it was as close as where they could take a couple of rounds, maybe one. I’m a lot better than that.

“I know it’s a learning process, but I’m already way ahead and just onto the next—sort of a new experience for me. New surroundings, massively so. Onto the next.

“There are positives and negatives to it,” said Hatton when asked if he’s being rushed by fighting in front of huge crowds like the 70,000 that showed up last Saturday at Tottenham Stadium.

“I’d be an idiot to turn down these opportunities, and I wouldn’t want to. I enjoy every minute of it. I don’t think I showed what I can do there.

“I’ll box anywhere, wherever my team thinks best. I have full faith in them. I want to be out as often as I can.

“I’d be out next week if you’d let me. A lot of my learning is done in the gym and in the ring. Whatever they think is best, I trust them,” said Hatton.

If Campbell doesn’t start showing improvement soon, Matchroom might want to consider cutting him lose.

They can’t afford to keep fighters that lack talent to be even a good domestic level fighter, and right now, Hatton doesn’t look capable of holding his own at even the primary levels of the sport.
