Lennox Lewis gives Povetkin advantage against Wilder

1-deontay-wilder (12)By Scott Gilfoid: In what could be seen as a bad omen for #1 WBC challenger Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs); former heavyweight world champion Lennox Lewis is giving him the advantage in his title fight against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) in their fight on May 21 on Showtime Boxing.

Lewis likes the 36-year-old Povetkin’s experience in this fight, and he feels that the 6’7” Wilder has many flaws that have him worried. However, Lewis also feels that Deontay’s power could be the factor that ultimately saves him in this fight.

Deontay Wilder vs. Alexander Povetkin to take place in Russia

Image: Deontay Wilder vs. Alexander Povetkin to take place in RussiaBy Scott Gilfoid: As I predicted, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) will be forced to defend his WBC title in Russia against his #1 WBC mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs) in the coming months. Fight News is reporting that the Wilder-Povetkin fight will be taking place in Russia. Povetkin’s promoter Andrey Ryabinsky of the World of Boxing is saying.

It’s no surprise that the Wilder-Povetkin fight will be staged in Russia. After Povetkin’s promoter Ryabinsky won the recent purse bid to stage the fight, it was clear that they were going to have it take place in Russia. I mean, why bother even winning the purse bid if you’re not going to take the fight to your home country?

Deontay Wilder: If you think I’m giving up my title, you’re crazy!

1-DEONTAY WILDER-WEIGH IN-01152015-9949By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) says it never entered into his mind to vacate his WBC title after promotional team lost the purse bid to the promoters for his mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs) last week.

With Wilder’s management losing the purse bid, it means that Povetkin’s promoters can stage the fight in Russia if they so please. That will put Wilder in a position where he might need to do something extraordinary in the ring to make sure he walks out of the arena with his title.

Deontay Wilder vs. Alexander Povetkin must take place in 90 days

1-deontay-wilder (3)By Scott Gilfoid: Earlier on Friday, Russian promoter Andrey Ryabinsky of World of Boxing won the purse bid to stage the title fight between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) and his mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs). Ryabinksy is the promoter for the 36-year-old Povetkin, and he made a winning bid of $7.15 million to Wilder’s promoter Lou Dibella’a bid of $5,101.000.42.

Ryabinsky now has exactly 90 days to stage the fight. The big question is where he is going to stage the fight. Povetkin supposedly is willing to fight Deontay in the United States; although I am not so sure why he would want to do that other for kicks. T

Alexander Povetkin wins purse bid for Deontay Wilder fight

1-DEONTAY WILDER-MEDIA WORKOUT-01122015-9197By Scott Gilfoid: Russian heavyweight Alexander Povetkin’s team won’t the purse bid earlier today for his fight against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) with a winning bid of $7.15 million.

Wilder’s management bid $5,101.00.42, but it wasn’t enough. It’s not surprising that Povetkin’s team won the bid because this was all predicted by myself and others a long time ago. What this means is that the 6’7” Deontay will need to travel to Russia to defend his title rather than having the fight in the United States.

Deontay Wilder vs. Alexander Povetkin to go to purse bids

1-deontay-wilder (11)By Scott Gilfoid: The negotiations between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) and his mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs) have failed to produce a scheduled fight like they had hoped for. Povetkin, 36, says that they have failed. As such, it will now go to purse bids. The purse bid will be taking place next week on February 26.

“Talks failed, there will be trade negotiations,” Povetkin told TASS earlier today.
This is a negative if it goes to a purse bid because this increases the chance that the fight could take place in Russia. If one of the wealthy Russian promoters decides he wants to stage the Wilder-Povetkin fight, then it’s quite possible he’ll put in such a huge bid that Wilder’s management won’t be able to compete with it.

Deontay Wilder vs. Alexander Povetkin possible for May 21

1-deontay-wilder (8)By Scott Gilfoid: A working date of May 21 is the possible date for the huge fight between the talented 6’7” WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) and #1 WBC mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs). Deontay had been talking recently of wanting to get the fight against Povetkin over with by April, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

However, May 21 is still a good date for the fight. At least it won’t get dragged out until the summer months like the Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury rematch, which unbelievably still doesn’t have a date or a venue after all this time.

Povetkin too short for Deontay Wilder

povetkin100By Scott Gilfoid: I believe too much is being made of #1 WBC heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs) being a threat to WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs).

Povetkin, 36, is Wilder’s mandatory after beating a timid looking Mike Perez last year in May 2015. Ever since Povetkin locked himself in as the mandatory challenger for Wilder, boxing fans have been saying that he’s going to KO Wilder and take his WBC strap. I don’t believe that for a second. I think this is going to be one of Wilder’s easier defenses, even easier than his victory over Johann Duhaupas last year in September.

Wilder says he wants to face Povetkin in April. The negotiations are currently underway between the management of the two fighters. I’m not sure that the fight will take place as early as April, but I can definitely see it taking place in May or June.

Deontay Wilder – Alexander Povetkin negotiations begin

1-deontay-wilder (12)By Scott Gilfoid: The WBC ordered negotiations have begun between the promoters for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) and #1 WBC challenger Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs) for a fight that is expected to take place between May and July of this year.

Deontay. 6’7”, is ready to get the aging 36-year-old Povetkin out of the way by beating him so that he can take on the bigger names in the division. Povetkin was already easily beaten by Wladimir Klitschko in 2013, but since then, Povetkin has beaten four softer opponents to get himself into the No.1 spot for another crack at the title.

Deontay Wilder vs. Alexander Povetkin in the works for May or June

1-wilderszpilka (4)By Scott Gilfoid: Negotiations are reportedly underway for a fight between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) and Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs) for May or June of this year. Wilder vs. Povetkin is not a huge fight unfortunately, but Wilder has to get past the 36-year-old Povetkin for him to get to the bigger money fights against the likes of Tyson Fury, David Haye and Anthony Joshua.

It’ll be June at the latest. As for the location of the fight, it’ll be determined based on how the negotiations go and whether there is the need for a purse bid. If it does go to a purse bid, then the fight could wind up in Russia.
