Pacquiao concerned about Algieri’s height and reach

pac0000By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) and challenger Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) met earlier today for their first stop in their 6-city press tour in Macao, China.

What was immediately notable about the press conference was the huge size difference between Algieri and Pacquiao when they stood next to each other. They looked more like a comedy duo than two guys getting reach to fight each other in the next three months in their catch-weight fight at 144 pounds on November 22nd in Macao.

Algieri came off the canvas to defeat Ruslan Provodnikov for the WBO light welterweight title in his last fight and will be moving up in weight to try to achieve a world title in a second weight class.

A pre-fight media tour was kicked off today in Macao to promote the fight and there were many praises for the undefeated American from Pacquiao as well as promoter Bob Arum. Roach: Algieri is very hittable

roachBy Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach is pretty confident that his fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) will be able to land his shots against defensive artist Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) in their fight on November 22nd at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Roach also predicting a knockout for Pacquiao in this fight despite the fact that he hasn’t knocked anyone out in 5 years. Roach is still faithfully predicting knockouts each time 35-year-old Pacquiao fights, and the Algieri fight is no exception.

It’s pretty clear that there won’t be a knockout in this fight. Roach obviously is predicting knockouts like he always does, but there’s no way that Pacquiao with his short 35-year-old legs is going to be able to catch up to Algieri often enough to score a knockout in this fight.

Algieri brings a lot to the table with his height and reach that he plans on using against WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) on November 22nd in Macao, China. But it’s Algieri’s power that could open some eyes in this fight when he starts connecting on his shots against Pacquiao.

Arum: Algieri isn’t an easy fight for Pacquiao

pac995By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is starting to show some concerns about having matched his No.1 money fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) with possibly the wrong guy in scheduling him to face the younger, taller, longer-armed, and highly mobile Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) on November 22nd at the Venetian Casino & Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Arum isn’t coming right out and saying that he messed up, but he’s starting to show some serious worry about Pacquiao getting whipped by Algieri and exposed like he was by Juan Manuel Marquez 4 times and Tim Bradley.
