Usyk faces Huck in Muhammad Ali Trophy opener in Max-Schmeling-Halle, Berlin

The first contest of the World Boxing Super Series will be the cruiserweight quarter-final between WBO World Champion Oleksandr Usyk (12-0, 10 KOs) and Marco Huck (40-4-1, 27 KOs) at the Max-Schmeling-Halle, Berlin on September 9th.

Number one seed in the 200lb (90.7 kg) bracket, Usyk, picked the experienced German fighter to be the third defence of his title at the Draft Gala in Monaco earlier this month.

By Dan Ambrose: Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) is being talked about returning to the ring on June 24 against possibly 34-year-old #10 WBA, #12 WBO, #13 WBC junior middleweight Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-3-2, 24 KOs). Cotto hasn’t fought in a 1 ½ years since losing to Saul Canelo Alvarez by a 12 round decision in November 2015. Cotto, 36, took 2016 off from boxing. He probably would have fought if he could have gotten a fight against 43-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez, but he wasn’t able to negotiate the fight.

By Allan Fox: WBO cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk won a wide 12 round unanimous decision over Michael Hunter last Saturday night in front of 2,828 boxing fans at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md. Usyk floored the 28-year-old Hunter in the 12h round and had him inches from being stopped. It was only due to the referee giving Hunter a break that he was able to make it to the final bell. This was Usyk’s second successful title defense since he won the WBO title last year.

By Allan Fox: WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko is fighting tonight against Jason Sosa at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. Lomachenko (7-1, 5 KOs) was originally hoping to fight Sosa (20-1-4, 15 KOs) in a unification fight, but instead the fighter from Camden, New Jersey vacated his WBA title. Lomachenko will be fighting the 29-year-old Sosa with just his own WBO title on the line tonight.
