Maidana: Beating Mayweather will make me feel like I hit the lottery

By Allan Fox: While some boxing fans may feel that WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) won the lottery by being selected over Amir Khan to get a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) on May 3rd, but Maidana doesn’t feel that way. As you can see, he says he won’t be feeling like he hit the lottery until he beats the 37-year-old Mayweather in their important fight.

Marcos Maidana To Face Boxing’s Pound 4 Pound King Mayweather In A Mega Fight

maidana678By Rocky Esposito: What an amazing ride it has been for Marcos Maidana. There have been many highs in his career, with a few heart wrenching lows/loses in between. Maidana’s very first fight in the U.S. was vs Victor Ortiz back June of 2009. Many fans might not have remembered this, but just four months prior to the fight with Ortiz, Maidana had just suffered the very first loss of his professional career. He lost an extremely close (115-113, 114-115, 113-115) split decision to Andriv Kotelnik in Germany. Many observers of the fight thought the decision should have went Marcos’ way.

Regardless, now he was facing Victor Ortiz and fighting on U.S. soil for the very first time. Maidana knew going into the fight he could not afford another loss. Most Boxing fans remember this fight as a Modern Day Classic. Ortiz put Maidana down in Round 1, but Maidana got up and immediately knocked Victor down to even the score. Ortiz then put Maidana down twice in Round 2, but Maidana got up each time.

Khan left out in the cold by Mayweather with his pick of Maidana for his next fight

khan#9By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan has just received the news about Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) getting picked by Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) for his next fight on May 3rd in Las Vegas, Nevada or the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and Khan isn’t sounding too cheerful judging by his post on his twitter page. Khan said “Let’s just leave everything up to God. Hope you all having a good day. Gym time for me shortly. Speak later.”

I hate to say it, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles, Khan. You had your chance and you royally blew it by now making the fight moves.

Marcos Maidana: Can He Shock The World by beating Mayweather?

maidanaBy Rocky Esposito: Marcos Maidana is a fun fighter to watch and he is very easy to root for. He might not be the most technically skilled boxer alive, but for all that he lacks, he makes up for it with his aggressive/come forward style, his heart, and his will to win. Also, Maidana possesses a very rare trait that simply cannot be taught, and that is… He knows how to deal with and handle adversity inside the ring extremely well. Whenever he has a set back inside the ring, he does not go into panic mode or have a systems shutdown. On the contrary, he seems to come back with even sharper focus and determination.

Another major, invaluable asset/plus that Maidana has going for him is his Trainer, Robert Garcia. Although he did not win the award officially, Robert Garcia was in my opinion Boxing’s Trainer of the Year for 2013.

Maidana says he’ll be the one facing Mayweather on May 3rd

maidana54343By Chris Williams: In what could be a crushing blow to the career of Amir Khan, WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) is saying that he’ll be the one facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd. Nothing has been confirmed or announced about this yet, but Maidana seems to think he’ll be the one in the ring with Mayweather.

“I’m waiting for the fight to be announced”, said via the Buenos Aires Herald. He further said that he’s “anxious and already training for the fight”.

Where this leaves Khan is unknown. He just spent the last 10 months of his career waiting on the Mayweather fight, and he even won a twitter poll that was created by Mayweather’s website.

Mayweather-Maidana & Khan-Broner rumored for May 3rd!

broner7By Scott Gilfoid: A huge fight card fight is being talked about for May 3rd headlined by Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maidana with the co-feature fight being Amir Khan vs. Adrien Broner, according to Steve Bunce. The idea is that Khan would have to prove himself by beating Broner in order to get a big money fight against Mayweather in September. Having Broner-Khan on the undrecard of Mayweather vs. Maidana would likely bring in a ton of PPV buys.

In other words, an eliminator type of fight. It’s a win-win for Mayweather either way. If Khan beats Broner, then Khan comes out as a much stronger opponent for Mayweather to fight in September than he is now with his 2 losses in his last 4 fights. If Broner beats Khan, then we have Broner facing Mayweather in September.

Roger Mayweather says Maidana will fight Floyd Jr., not Khan

maidana88By Chris Williams: Roger Mayweather, the uncle for Floyd Mayweather Jr., is saying that Marcos Maidana will be getting the fight with Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd and not Amir Khan. If this is true, then Khan will have won the poll on Mayweather’s website for nothing, because Khan defeated Maidana in the poll 57% to 43%, and he’s talking as if he’s got the fight in the bag now. But Mayweather Jr. is someone that can change his mind, and it could be that he decided that Maidana is the bigger money fight than facing Khan on Cinco de Mayo and risking that the fight does poorly.

“I think it was going to be Amir Khan, but they say Maidana,” Roger said to esnewsreporting. Who “they” is still unclear.

Maidana fires back at Mayweather

maidana99991By Allan Fox: It didn’t take WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana to respond to Floyd Mayweather’s tweet from this morning where Mayweather described Maidana as being little more than a “one-piece meal with biscuit.” Maidana fired back on his facebook reminding Mayweather that he recently beat little Mayweather, Adrien Broner.

“Floyd, Your little brother wasn’t good enough for this “*****” but who knows, maybe your the next one in the family,” Maidana said

Maidana is hoping he’ll be the next one to fight Mayweather, because it would give him a career-high payday and give him enough money to retire on. If Maidana can’t get this fight, then he’s going to need to work on the Broner rematch. Those are Maidana’s biggest opportunities for him to get a big payday in what will likely be a short reign as the WBA 147 lb. champion.
