Mayweather an 80:1 favorite to beat Berto

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Allan Fox: Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) isn’t being given much of a chance of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) by the boxing fans and the oddmakers. Many fans see the Mayweather-Berto fight as a poor mismatch, and they don’t appear to be too excited at the thought of watching it on September 12th.

One betting site has Mayweather a monstrous 80:1 favorite, according to Fight news. One good thing that could make the Mayweather vs. Berto fight worthwhile to fans is if it winds up being televised on free TV on CBS.

Mayweather vs. Berto not finalized yet

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Allan Fox: Negotiations between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Andre Berto are still not finalized for their September 12th fight, according to TMZ. The negotiations are moving forward and it’s looking good that the two of them will be facing each other at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Berto, 31, really wants this fight, and putting the fight together shouldn’t be too much of an obstacle. However, Team Mayweather is still looking at other options for the September fight just in case they’re unable to make a deal with Berto.

Mayweather vs. Berto fight could be televised on CBS

Floyd Mayweather JrBy Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next fight against former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) is rumored to be televised on CBS on September 12th, according to Sports Illustrated. The Berto-Mayweather fight hasn’t been confirmed as of yet by Mayweather Promotions, nor has it confirmed whether it will be televised on CBS.

For the fight, Mayweather will make between $30-35 million, which is a huge departure from the $220 million he reportedly pulled in for his last fight against Manny Pacquiao. Fighting Berto is obviously a much lower level fight than what Mayweather has been doing lately in facing the likes of Pacquiao, Marcos Maidana and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Khan: I heard it’s Berto [for Mayweather fight]. Good luck to him

berto91By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan appeared to be admitting defeat in a tweet last night in saying that he’s heard through the grapevine that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be facing Andre Berto on September 12th in his next fight.

Khan trains under the same trainer as Berto in Hayward, California, and he says he wishes Berto a lot of luck. It’s still not official, but given that they both have Virgil Hunter as their trainer, it’s likely that Berto told Hunter about him getting the fight, and he in turn may have told Khan. That’s the only way I can see Khan finding out about this.

Berto could pose problem for Mayweather, says former trainer

berto444By Allan Fox: Former IBF/WBC 147lb champion Andre Berto’s former trainer Tony Morgan thinks Berto could give Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 12th if he’s 100 percent ready for the fight. Morgan likes Berto’s hand speed and punching power, and he thinks he could give Mayweather problems if he ends up getting the fight.

It would be a big upset if Berto were able to get the victory over Mayweather. It would be a shock if Berto even gets picked out for the fight, because there are arguably more deserving fighters than Berto who rate a fight against Mayweather.

Berto has his hopes up for Mayweather fight

berto44By Dan Ambrose: Andre Berto is pretty excited about him potentially getting a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. for September 12th. Mayweather has been name dropping the 30-year-old Berto and Karim Mayfield’s names in interviews lately, and it seems like he’s sincere about wanting to fight one of them.

If Mayweather opts to face someone else instead, it’s going to be a huge disappointment for Berto and Mayfield. These haven’t ever been involved in a big money mega-fight before.

Will Mayweather use Berto as his plan B opponent?

By Chris Williams: With the bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao looking increasingly more and more like it’s not going to happen, Mayweather will need to find a replacement opponent to fight instead of Pacquiao in his next fight – whenever that is. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is already is looking to put Pacquiao in with either Antonio Margarito or Miguel Cotto next, if the Mayweather fight can’t be made.
