Weights: Murray 159, Bursak 160.5

murray555By Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBC, #3 WBA Martin Murray (27-1-1, 12 KO’s) weighed in on Friday for his clash on Saturday night against Max Bursak (29-2-1, 12 KO’s). Murray, who believes that he’s got the talent to beat WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto with no problems, weighed in at 159. Bursak weighed 160.5.

The fight will be taking place at the Casino de Monte Carlo Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo, Monaco. Bursak lost his last fight to Jarrod Fletcher earlier this year. It’s kind of perplexing why a middleweight contender this long in the tooth and ranked as high as he is by the WBA and WBC is fighting a guy coming off of a loss the way Bursak is. It’s very strange, because usually once guys fight for world titles, they continue to fight opposition that are winning their fights, not losing them. It strikes me as a little strange, and more than a little self-defeating.

Martin Murray: I’m a level above Bursak

murray555555(Photo credit: GoldenGlovesSA) By Scott Gilfoid: A drained looking Martin Murray (27-1-1, 12 KO’s) spoke the obvious when he said this about his opponent for Saturday Max Bursak (29-2-1, 12 KO’s), “We are both in great shape, but I’m a level above Bursak and I will show that.” It kind of goes without saying that Murray is a level above Bursak, but it also reflects on Murray that he’s still fighting guys like Bursak after having failed on two attempts to capture a world title at 160.

Murray, #2 WBC, #3 IBF, #13 WBO, will be facing #8 WBA Bursak this Saturday, June 21st at the Casino de Monte Carlo Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo, Monaco. A win for the 31-year-old Murray will either lead to additional tune-ups for possibly against one of the 160-pound world champions.

If Murray does challenge for a world title, it’s not likely to be against WBA champion Gennady Golovkin, because he’s looking for bigger fights against the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Carl Froch.

Martin Murray vs. Max Bursak this Saturday in Monaco

murray5By Scott Gilfoid: #2 WBC, #3 IBF, #13 WBO Martin Murray will be fighting this Saturday night against #8 WBA Max Bursak (29-2-1, 12 KO’s) in a 12 round bout at the Casino de Monte Carlo Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo, Monaco. This is yet another tune-up fight for the idea of improving the 31-year-old Murray for another world title shot.

Bursak lost his last fight to Jarrod Fletcher last February in a fight where he looked horrible. Bursak also has a 12 round lopsided decision loss to Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam to years ago in 2012.
Why Murray wanted to fight a guy coming off of a loss is unclear. I mean, where’s the gain if you know you’re fighting a guy who was schooled by Fletcher? For me, that would kill motivation I would have in fighting the guy, and I would tell my promoter ‘No thanks, find someone else.’

Martin Murray faces Max Bursak on 6/21 in Monte Carlo

murray2By Scott Gilfoid: #4 WBC, #6 IBF, #13 WBO middleweight contender Martin Murray (27-1-1, 12 KO’s) will be fighting #8 WBA Max Bursak (29-2-1, 12 KO’s) in a slight step up fight for the 31-year-old Murray on June 21st in Monte Carlo. Murray is still being taken slowly after his loss to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, and it seems that they’re going to take the safe route with him after Murray won a controversial 8 round majority decision against journeymen Sergey Khomitsky last December.

In some boxing fans’ eyes, Murray lost that fight. Perhaps a knee jerk reaction, Murray was matched against a little known journeyman named Ishmael Tetteh this past week. Murray won the fight by a 6th round stoppage, but he again failed to impress and looked lost at times when taking head shots against the smaller-looking fighter.

Bursak destroys Sainte, wins vacant EBU 160 lb. title

bursak4By Jim Dower: #7 WBO, Max Bursak (26-1-1, 12 KO’s) totally dominated a badly over-matched Julien Marie Sainte (34-3, 24 KO’s) in stopping him in the 3rd round on Saturday night to capture the vacant EBU middleweight title at the Salle Pierre Scohy, Aulnay-sous-Bois, Seine-Saint-Denis, France.

The 28-year-old Bursak caught Sainte on the ropes in the 3rd and unloaded on him with a barrage of punches ending with a big left that put Sainte down on the canvas. The referee Massimo Barrovecchio had seen enough of this one-sided fight and he chose to stop the fight right there rather letting a bleeding Sainte continue to take one-sided punishment from the stronger, faster and much more aggressive Bursak.
