Image: Marquez says he can fight Pacquiao at 140-142 pound catch weight "Unless he's too scared"By Chris Williams: After an impressive 9th round TKO win over WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis (27-3, 22 KO’s) last Saturday night at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KO’s) called out Manny Pacquiao at the post fight press conference, saying “I deserve a third fight with Pacquiao but he keeps coming up with excuses why not to fight me. When he fought Margarito, he came in at 144 pounds. We can fight at a catch weight of 142 lbs or 140 lbs. I’m sure he can make the weight unless he’s too scared.”

Juan Manuel Marquez wants Pacquiao at a catch weight of 143 or 144

By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KO’s) is interested in fighting a third fight against Manny Pacquiao if Manny will agree to fight him at a catch weight of 143 or 144, according to boxing news from ESPN’s Golpe a Golpe. Marquez, 37, says “First Pacquiao would have to accept, but I would fight him at a catch-weight of 143 or 144 pounds.” Pacquiao probably won’t accept and he won’t likely bring it up to his promoter Bob Arum, who seems to want no part of matching Pacquiao up with Marquez in another rematch.

Juan Manuel Marquez needs to fight Clottey if he wants a shot against Pacquiao

By William Mackay: Bob Arum, the promoter for Manny Pacquiao, has said more than once that if Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KO’s) wants a third fight against Pacquiao, Marquez needs to prove himself against a top welterweight like Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KO’s) or World Boxing Council welterweight champion Andre Berto. I think the key name here is Clottey. That’s probably who Arum is really hoping Marquez will fight next. Given that Arum promotes Clottey, I think that’s the fight that Marquez needs to take if he wants to try and fight Pacquiao one more time. Clottey needs a big name right now to try and get his career back on track after his poor showing against Pacquiao in March, and there’s probably not going to be anyone even slightly popular interested in fighting Clottey now.

Schaefer says Juan Manuel Marquez is ready to step in against Pacquiao

Image: Schaefer says Juan Manuel Marquez is ready to step in against PacquiaoBy Matt Stein: Antonio Margarito was rejected by the California Athletic Commission on Wednesday in Margarito’s second attempt to get a boxing license. Margarito already was rejected by the Nevada Athletic Commission previously. Margarito’s promoter Bob Arum seems reluctant to give up on his unlicensed fighter for some reason, despite his inability to get a boxing license in the United States for the November 13th fight against Manny Pacquiao. Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, is interested in putting Juan Manuel Marquez back in with Pacquiao for a third fight in place of Margarito, saying to Dan Rafael of ESPN “Marquez is ready, willing, able and licensed. Let’s do unfinished business.”

Is Arum hoping Marquez will fight Clottey in order to get a shot at Pacquiao?

By Dave Lahr: Former International Boxing Federation welterweight champion is one of Bob Arum’s fighters in his stable, and unfortunately Clottey looked horrible in the worst way in losing to Manny Pacquiao last March at the Cowboy Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. Juan Manuel Marquez, in the meantime, just finished beating Juan Diaz in an impressive 12 round decision last Saturday night.

Why doesn’t Pacquiao fight Marquez at a catch weight?

Image: Why doesn’t Pacquiao fight Marquez at a catch weight?By Dave Lahr: Since we’ve already seen that Manny Pacquiao has no issue with fighting different opponents at catch weights, so why not have Pacquiao fight Juan Manuel Marquez at a catch weight? If it’s good enough for Pacquiao, then it should be more than good enough for one of his opponents to use in a fight with him. Pacquiao’s loyal boxing fans say it’s too hard for him to fight below 140 now that he’s fighting at 147. I find that hard to believe.

Is Pacquiao afraid of Marquez?

Image: Is Pacquiao afraid of Marquez?By Dave Lahr: Ever since Juan Manuel Marquez gave Manny Pacquiao a major hiding in their last fight in 2008, Marquez hasn’t been able to get Pacquiao to even consider getting back in the ring for a third fight. Now why is that? Could it be that Pacquiao doesn’t want any more from Marquez after getting beaten up, staggered and pretty well dominated in their two fights?
