Lopez vs. Salido
Salido: I’m going to prove my win over Lopez wasn’t a fluke
By Dan Ambrose: WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido (37-11-2, 25 KO’s) will be looking to repeat his knockout effort of a year ago against then WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (31-1, 28 KO’s) by knocking him out a second time in their fight on March 10th at the Caliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Lopez-Salido II moved to March 10th
By Dan Ambrose: The Juan Manuel Lopez (31-1, 28 KO’s) vs. WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido (37-11-2, 25 KO’s) rematch has reportedly been moved from March 31st to March 10th with fight still taking place in Lopez’s home country of Puerto Rico due to his ability to draw huge crowds there. The last time the two fighters met a year ago, Salido wore Lopez down with hard right hands after discovering early on that Lopez had no defense for a right hand whatsoever.

Salido making Juanma wait for the rematch
By Dan Ambrose: It must be really burning Juan Manuel Lopez (30-1, 27 KO’s) up inside that he can’t get an immediate rematch against Orlando Salido (36-11-2, 24 KO’s) after he totally destroyed Lopez in an 8th round TKO in April. Lopez was beaten in pretty much every way a fighter can get beaten in a fight in the loss to Salido. He blamed it on a number of things afterwards, but the fact of the matter is Salido was too strong for Lopez.
Arum gambling that Lopez will beat Salido in August rematch
By Dan Ambrose: Former WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (30-1, 27 KO’s) will be trying his luck again in a fight with Mexican Orlando Salido (35-11-2, 23 KO’s) in a fight that will be taking place in the summer in August, slated for Puerto Rico, even though Salido is now the champion and not Lopez. This is a really risky fight for the 27-year-old Lopez, because he was out of his league in his loss to Salido on April 16th, and I can’t see how things will change any in a rematch.
Juan Manuel Lopez to train in Florida for August 20th rematch with Salido
By Dan Ambrose: At the advice of his promoter Bob Arum, former World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (30-1, 27 KO’s) will be training in Florida rather than his home country of Puerto Rico for his tentatively scheduled rematch with Mexican Orlando Salido(35-11-2, 23 KO’s). Lopez, 30, was beaten up and stopped in the 8th round by Salido on April 16th in a fight that took place in Lopez’s native country of Puerto Rico.
Arum says Lopez-Gamboa back on track if Lopez beats Salido in a rematch
By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum doesn’t see Juan Manuel Lopez’s recent 8th round stoppage loss to Orlando Salido getting in the way of a bout between Lopez and IBF/WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (20-0, 16 KO’s), as long as Lopez can beat Salido in a rematch in 2011.
Arum still talking Gamboa-Lopez if Juan Manuel beats Salido in the rematch
By Dan Ambrose: Having waited too long to match-up Juan Manuel Lopez with Yuriorkis Gamboa because he wanted to let their fight marinate, Bob Arum, their promoter, hasn’t given up entirely on the Gamboa-Lopez fight after Lopez was destroyed by the tough Mexican Orlando Saldido (35-11. 23 KO’s) last weekend in an 8th round TKO loss in Puerto Rico.
Can Juan Manuel Lopez’s problems be fixed with more defensive work or is he too weak and fragile to beat Salido?
By Dan Ambrose: Sometimes fighters do really well until they reach a certain level of competition where they ceiling out in their development. It doesn’t matter much you teach that fighter, he’s still limited to that level based on flaws in his chin, stamina or speed. It looks as if former WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (30-1, 27 KO’s) has reached his peak and run head long into the ceiling of what he’s capable of in being stopped in the 8th round by Orlando Salido last weekend.
