By William Mackay: World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) is supposedly the second option for WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) if his proposed fight against lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez falls through for December 4th. Right now, it’s looking like that fight will happen, but Maidana is the supposed to be the second option for Khan, according to the latest boxing news. My question is why is Maidana always the second option for Khan? Shouldn’t Maidana be the first option by now? He’s already been waiting over a year and still hasn’t gotten even close to a fight with Khan.

By William Mackay: World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) prefers to be fighting lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez in December. However, if Marquez opts to stay at lightweight and fight WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis instead, then the 23-year-old Khan will have to settle for fighting either Marcos Maidana or Victor Ortiz. In an interview at the BBC.co.uk, Khan says “I’m looking Marquez, Maidana or Victor Ortiz in December. I always promised the fans that I’m going to bring big fights to England and that’s what I’m hoping for. “

By Sean McDaniel: It’s to believe but World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan may already be the best fighter in the light welterweight division after only three fights at that weight class. It’s hard to believe because Khan looked so horrible in getting knocked out in the 1st round by the very average Breidis Prescott two years ago in 2008. Khan hasn’t anything to avenge that defeat, but he’s done a good job of winning his fights since then, albeit against non lethal punchers. Khan has looked great in beating Andriy Kotelnik, Dmitri Salita and Paulie Malignaggi.

By William Mackay: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has a back-up plan just in case WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez decides not to fight World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan on December 11th on HBO, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Schaefer would then substitute either Victor Ortiz or Marcos Maidana in Marquez’s case.

Marquez is talking about wanting to move up in weight to the light welterweight division in hopes of winning a 4th world title in as many divisions. His promotional team Golden Boy Promotions wants to match the 37-year-old Marquez up against WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) in a good money fight in December on HBO.

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) was at ringside last night to watch World Boxing Association/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KO’s) defeat Juan Diaz (35-1, 17 KO’s) by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Instead of being scared away from wanting to fight Marquez, Khan is even more eager to get the smaller and older Marquez in the ring with him at light welterweight rather than lightweight. In an article by Gareth A Davies at the Telegraph, Khan says “Marquez looked strong and sharp. I still want to fight him. He’s a legend. I know people think I’m stupid to fight someone with so much experience, but I want tough fights against big names. I am now relying on Golden Boy Promotions to make this fight for December.”

After Amir Khan made his American debut against Paulie “Magic Man,” Malignaggi, HBO commentator Max Kellerman made it very clear that a four-man tournament was developing to see who would reign supreme in the division. Those four are: Amir Khan, Timothy Bradley, Devon Alexander, and Marcos Maidana. Of the four, Khan is the fastest, while Maidana probably hits the hardest.

Yesterday, the 23-year-old Khan suddenly became ill with stomach ache and suffered a fever along with it. However, after having a doctor treat him for his stomach ailment, Khan has made a miraculous recovery.

By Sean McDaniel: HBO may not be interested in showing IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s next fight, but they certainly are to show WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s). Dan Rafael of ESPN reports that HBO has already set aside the December 11th date for the 23-year-old Khan’s next fight, which could very well end up being against WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. Khan is interested in fighting the 36-year-old Marquez, and both HBO and Golden Boy Promotions, who promotes both Khan and Marquez, are eager to put this fight together. Marquez is reportedly interested in facing Khan, despite the fact that he turned down a fight with the bigger Khan earlier this year.

By William Mackay: World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) is upset that he won’t be fighting soon, and he’s vowed not to take another long break in the future. Khan, 23, last fought on May 15th, beating the pillow-punching Paulie Malignaggi by a 11th round TKO. Instead of fighting in September, Khan will be taking the time off for Ramadan. However, Khan had no shortage of opponents to fight him, such as John Murray and Michael Katsidis. Unfortunately, Khan says they priced themselves out of a fight with him by asking for too much money.
