Amir Khan: The April Fool

amir5445By Robbie Bannatyne – The strange and wacky wheel of the boxing world has taken another turn for the bizarre with the announcement that Amir Khan will face Chris Algieri on May 30th. When I awoke to the news I was confused and thought it must still be April Fools Days. Now it is clear that ‘King Khan’ is the only fool left in April.

I mean what the hell is Khan playing at? He could bank of millions of pounds by facing Kell Brook in the biggest British fight of the year, yet he elects to box Chris Algieri in a fight that will struggle to find a broadcaster!

Amir Khan ducks the competition and chases the money again!

YouTube video

khan343444Rob Blakeman : Amir “King?” Khan has stated on a Sky Sports Toe to Toe broadcast that he will not fight World Champion Kell Brook-even though having a World title would make him much more of a legitimate challenge to the winner of Mayweather v Pacquiao-the big money that Khan craves. He says Brook needs to fight some real contenders (So beating Shawn Porter in his own backyard doesn’t count!) and make his way to the top like Khan thinks he has. Khan has lost 3 times. He’s been knocked out twice and so clearly thinks the risk of being beaten by Brook is too big now he believes he is close to the fight he wants with ‘Money”. He says that Brook is trying to ‘cash-out’ on his (Khan’s) name as it would be his last fight-as if Khan is trying to do anything different with a Mayweather fight!

Khan vs. Algieri won’t be televised on Showtime, network passes on the fight

algieri1546By Scott Gilfoid: Showtime has decided to pass on televising the May 30th fight between Amir Khan (30-3, 19 KOs) and former WBO light welterweight champion Chris Algieri (20-1, 8 KOs) in New York. Dan Rafael is reporting that Showtime chose not to televise the Khan-Algieri fight.

You can only guess why. Showtime has been burned a number of times in the past in televising mismatches, and it’s possible that they might not have wanted to purchase this fight, which would appear to be a mismatch on paper with Khan likely to be heavily favored.

Khan, 28, plans on fighting at the end of May. He’d been talking about wanting to fight a big name like Floyd Mayweather Jr, Manny Pacquiao or Miguel Cotto, but none of those fighters showed any interest in fighting him.
