By Dan Ambrose: Dan Rafael is reporting that a deal has been made for unbeaten WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO’s) to defend his title against junior middleweight Gabriel Rosado (21-5, 13 KO’s) in an HBO televised fight on January 19th at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York, USA. This is the same card as the featherweight contest between WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido vs. Mikey Garcia.
I’m glad that Golovkin finally has an opponent for this fight date, but I’m not too impressed with the guy that they got in the 26-year-old Rosado. However, it was down to either him or middleweight contender Fernando Guerrero, a fighter that had recently been knocked out by 40-year-old Grady Brewer. That wouldn’t have been an appealing fight to see Golovkin vs. Guerrero because the outcome would be obvious.
