Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson & Peter Quillin vs. Andy Lee official for April 11th
By Dan Ambrose: It’s now official now that Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) will be facing Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) on April 11th in a catch-weight fight at 143 pounds in the “Premier Boxing Championship” series on NBC at 8:30 p.m E/T at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The fight is only scheduled for 10 rounds, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. One can only guess why the fight is only scheduled for 10 rounds instead of the normal 12 rounds, but it’s likely out of concern for Garcia to make sure he doesn’t gas out and look bad in a 12 round fight.
WBC gives Danny Garcia permission to face Lamont Peterson in 143lb catch-weight
By Dan Ambrose: In questionable move by the World Boxing Council, they’ve reportedly gave WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia permission to face IBF 140 pound champion Lamont Peterson on April 11th without the WBC 140 pound Lamont Peterson in a catch-weight fight at 143 pounds without either of their titles being on the line, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.
It’s unclear why the WBC isn’t stripping Garcia of his title, given that this is his second consecutive fight where he’s not faced his mandatory or even an optional contender in the 140 pound opponent.
Danny Garcia: I don’t lose!
By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) doesn’t think too highly of his next opponent IBF 140lb champion Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs), who he’ll be facing on April 11th in the United States at a still yet to be determined venue.
There’s been talk of the Garcia-Peterson fight taking place at a catch-weight of 143 pounds, but Garcia is now saying that the fight could be at 140 in order to make it a unification match.
Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson at 143lb catch-weight, no titles on line
By Dan Ambrose: The April 11th NBC fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) and IBF 140lb champion Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) just lost what little meaning the fight ever had with the news today that their fight will be at a catch-weight of 143 pounds instead of at the normal 140lb weight for the light welterweight division.
This means that the fight will be a non-title bout with neither guy putting of their straps for the fight. The loser of the fight will get to keep their titles and continue defending them.
Danny Garcia: The fans want to see me fight Lamont Peterson
By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) says he’s ready to give fans the fight they want to see in him facing IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) on April 11th at a still to be determined venue in the United States.
This is a fight that will be televised on NBC and it’ll be the second fight card on the series by Garcia’s manager Al Haymon.

By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) will be facing IBF World super light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) in a unification match on April 11th on NBC as part of his manager Al Haymon’s “Premier Boxing Champions” series. Haymon is all of a sudden putting together some good fights, as a month earlier on March 7th he has two excellent fights between Robert Guerrero and Keith Thurman as well as Adrien Broner going up against John Molina.
De La Hoya to make Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson in early 2015
By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions says he’s going to try and put together a unification fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) and IBF 147lb title holder Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs) for early 2015.
This is a fight that should have been made in 2014, but instead Garcia’s adviser Al Haymon matched him against the much smaller lightweight Rod Salka in a fight that turned out to be a dreadful mismatch last August.
De La Hoya says he’ll work on Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson fight
"Fans want it, fighters want it, GBP wants it. Getting moving on
Garcia/Peterson"
— Oscar De La Hoya (@OscarDeLaHoya) August 13, 2014
By Dan Ambrose: Responding to small pockets of interest from boxing fans in a potential unification fight between IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson and WBA/WBC 140 pound champion Danny Garcia, Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya says he’s going to start working on putting together the fight. He wants to make the fight for the fans, who really aren’t beating down Golden Boy’s door to see the fight. To honest, Peterson still hasn’t been looked at the same way by fans ever since he was obliterated by Lucas Matthysse. Fans would probably prefer to see a Garcia vs. Matthysse rematch or Garcia vs. Mauricio Herrera rather than seeing Garcia matched up against a guy that Matthysse easily beat in Peterson.
