DeGale wants Andre Dirrell fight on Mayweather-Pacquiao card

degale5By Scott Gilfoid: A date still hasn’t been decided yet for the James DeGale (20-1, 14 KOs) vs. Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16 KOs). The two fighters will be battling it out for the vacant IBF super middleweight title at some point in the near future. It’s possible that the fight could take place in May sometime, and DeGale is hoping that the fight will be place on the May 2nd undercard fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

If the DeGale-Dirrell fight winds up that card it’ll give both Dirrell and DeGale a great opportunity to get a ton of exposure.

This is a huge blow to DeGale and his promoter Eddie Hearn, who were both hoping to win the purse bid in order to stage the fight in England. That isn’t going to happen now.

Moore picks DeGale to beat Andre Dirrell

dirrell6By Scott Gilfoid: Sky commenter Jamie Moore thinks #1 IBF James DeGale has improved considerably since his loss to George Groves four years ago in 2011. Moore sees DeGale as a well-rounded professional fighter, and no longer fighting with the same slapping style that he showed after he turned pro in 2009.

Moore sees DeGale as being sharp enough now to defeat American #2 IBF Andre Dirrell in their fight on April 25th for the vacant International Boxing Federation title. This is the belt that Carl Froch recently vacated.

Andre Dirrell willing to fight James DeGale in the UK

Dirrell would obviously prefer the fight take place in the United States so that he can fight in front of his own boxing fans, but he’s willing and unafraid of fighting the 29-year-old DeGale in front of his British fans if the money is right.

Dirrell and DeGale are both in negotiations as of now, but the fight is expected to be announced by next week possibly.

Hearn sees Dirrell as being the favorite in the fight. Hearn doesn’t say why he believes that, but it likely has to do with Dirrell’s superior hand speed, power, defense, mobility and experience. Dirrell is simply a better fighter from what I can see.
