VADA reports Crawford vs. Postol test negative

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6f6wef8egeM&feature=youtu.be

By Chris Williams: Unbeaten WBO light welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (28-0, 20 KOs) and WBC light welterweight champion Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KOs) have both reportedly tested negative in their VADA random testing as part of the clean boxing program. Crawford and Postol will be facing each other on July 23 on HBO PPV at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Crawford and Postol’s promoter Bob Arum sees one of the two emerging as a big star after their fight. It depends on what Arum means as a star. If he means a star like in a Danny Garcia type of star, then I think that’ s definitely possible. But if Arum means a star like in Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or Floyd Mayweather Jr., then I don’t see that as realistic.

Arum looking for replacement bouts for Crawford vs. Postol card

arum74

By Allan Fox: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is looking to find a suitable replacement fight to fill in for the co-feature bout on the July 23 card on HBO PPV. Terence Crawford vs. Viktor Postol is he headliner, but their previously scheduled co-feature bout between WBO upper middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez and Dominik Britsch was cancelled on Wednesday due to Ramirez suffering a hand injury that will require surgery.

Arum’s possibilities as the replacement for the Ramirez-Britisch fight come down to these fights:

Crawford vs. Postol: Will this fight determine best at 140?

crawford87

By Chris Williams: WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (28-0, 20 KOs) sees his fight next month on July 23 against WBC 140lb champion Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KOs) as a match that will decide who the best fighter is in the division. The winner of the Crawford-Postol fight will be seen by the fans as the best, but the winner still need to face WBA champion Ricky Burns and IBF champ Eduard Troyanovsky to determine who the overall No.1 fighter is at 140.

It won’t be enough for the winner of the Crawford-Postol fight to proclaim that they’re the best. They’ll need to actually fight the rest of the champions for them to prove it. It’s not known how much longer the 28-year-old Crawford will stay at 140.

Crawford wants to become a PPV star and he probably won’t be able to do that if he stays at 140 and gets stuck fighting guys like Dierry Jean, Hank Lundy and Thomas Dulorme over and over again. The Crawford-Postol fight will be televised on HBO pay-per-view, but that’s only because HBO didn’t have any open dates to televise the fight on regular HBO Championship Boxing.

Postol: I don’t see myself as underdog against Terence Crawford

postol8

By Chris Williams: WBC light welterweight champion Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KOs) doesn’t see himself as the underdog for this unification fight next month against WBO 140lb champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (28-0, 20 KOs) on July 23 on HBO PPV at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 32-year-old Postol is totally confident he’ll be winning the fight, and he doesn’t care what Crawford’s fans think about the fight. He thinks he’s going to win the fight and give the heavily hyped Omaha, Nebraska native his first loss of his eight-year pro career. It’s not just Crawford’s fans that think he’s going to win.

Crawford hopes to replace Mayweather and Pacquiao as No. 1 pound-for-pound star

crawford5

By Chris Williams: WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford (28-0, 20 KOs) is a little over a month away from his debut on HBO pay-per-view against WBC light welterweight champion Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KOs) on July 23 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. With Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao no longer fighting, Crawford wants to be seen as the successor to those two stars as the No.1 pound-for-pound fighter.

Whether the now 28-year-old Crawford can accomplish that heavy task remains to be seen. Crawford is No.6 on Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound rating, and I’m not sure that he’s got the fighting style to beat out the guys above him. Crawford is more of a counter puncher, and he doesn’t put his chin on the line the way you like to see with the No.1 pound-for-pound stars.

“This isn’t just opening night for a new phase of my career. I want this to be the beginning of a long run as boxing’s next pound for pound star and a worthy successor to Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr,” said Crawford.

Terence Crawford vs. Viktor Postol – The battle for stardom

crawford1000

By Chris Williams: Top Rank will be sending their light welterweight champions Terence Crawford (28-0, 20 KOs) and Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KOs) into the ring next month in their first headlining fight on HBO pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Crawford will be defending his WBO title and Postol have his WBC belt on the line for the fight.

You can argue that neither of these fighters is even remotedly popular enough to be headlining a PPV event on HBO. However, there were not available dates on regular HBO for them to fight this year, so Top Rank promoter Bob Arum chose to put the fight on PPV.

Crawford vs. Postol: Will it bring in 75K PPV buys on HBO?

crawford43By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has really put in a big effort to make sure the Terence Crawford vs. Viktor Postol fight is a big success on HBO PPV on July 23. According to Dan Rafael, Arum needs 75,000 PPV buys for the Crawford-Postol fight to break even. The going price for the card is $49.99. I don’t know about you but that’s a lot of green. I could fill my car up with gas for a week for that kind of cash. I’m still trying to decide whether I’ll watch the Crawford-Postol fight live.

While that’s not much compared to extremely high $100 asking price for last year’s fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight sold for on HBO/Showtime PPV, it’s still quite a lot of money for two fighters that aren’t well known in the United States and are light years away from becoming stars of any kind.

Terence Crawford has to “Put up or shut up” against Viktor Postol

crawford1000By Brendan Taylor: On July 23rd, Terence Crawford (28-0, 20 KO’s) will face the toughest test of his career as he takes on Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KO’s) in a battle for 140-pound supremacy. When you watch Terence Crawford fight at first glance you see everything you’d want in a top level fighter. He’s got fundamentals, an entertaining style and he’s got a real fighting spirit that makes him appeal to casual boxing fans. However when you look into his resume it becomes very easy to criticize him

Crawford has had 3 fights at junior welterweight which have seen him matched up against undersized opposition that had to come up in weight in Dierry Jean and Hank Lundy. This was also the case when he scored the biggest win of his career at lightweight against a blown up featherweight in Yuriorkis Gamboa. The critics have had a lot of reasons not to fully buy into the Terence Crawford hype, but this Postol fight represents his chance to finally silence the doubters.

Gilberto Ramirez vs. Dominik Britsch on Crawford-Postol card

ramirez94By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) will be defending his title for the first time on July 23 against German fighter Dominik Britsch (32-2-1, 11 KOs) in the co-feature bout on the Terence Crawford (28-0, 20 KO) vs. Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KOs) card on HBO pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 24-year-old Ramirez recently won the WBO title in beating champion Arthur Abraham by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision last April on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley III fight in Las Vegas. Ramirez won an easy fight in beating 36-year-old Abraham by the scores of 120-108 x 3.
