Image: Sergio Martinez: Cotto and Chavez Jr. don't have the courage to fight meBy Dan Ambrose: World Boxing Council (WBC) Diamond middleweight champion Sergio Martinez is hoping that Antonio Margarito beats WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on December 3rd in their title fight at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Martinez thinks Cotto is to scared to fight him, but believes that Margarito has the courage to take a fight with him. Margarito stopped Martinez in the 7th round in February 2000. Martinez would love a rematch provided that Margarito beats Cotto in December.

Image: Martinez vs. Barker on Saturday: Does anybody care about this fight?By Scott Gilfoid: Photo credit: Ed Diller/DiBella Entertainment – The sad thing about Saturday’s fight between WBC Diamond middleweight champion Sergio Martinez and Darren Barker is that it’s not even the best fight on the card. The undercard fight between middleweight contender Andy Lee and Brian Vera is far better, and I’d pick either one of those guys over Barker.

It’s just disappointing that Martinez has decided to fight Barker instead of a better fighter like Vera or Lee, but I suppose Martinez deserves to take tune-up fight while he rests from his big fights with Kelly Pavlik, Paul Williams and Sergiy Dzinziruk.

Martinez, 36, has taken this fight against the number #3 ranked World Boxing Council contender to knock off one of the top contenders while waiting for a shot to reclaim his WBC title against champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. next year in 2012.
