Williams Schools Wright – Is There Anyone That Can Beat Paul?

williams44634By Matt Stein: Last night, Paul Williams (37-1, 27 KOs) showed how much better he is than the other welterweights, junior middleweights and middleweights, by defeating Winky Wright (51-5-1, 25 KOs) by a near shutout 12-round unanimous decision at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas. If you were expecting a close fight, then you were in for a disappointment because Wright was beaten every which way by Williams, who punched nearly nonstop for the full 12 rounds and never really let Wright get into the fight.

Williams Dominates Winky Wright

williams44334By Jason Kim: So much for Ronald “Winky” Wright’s (51-5-1, 25 KOs) so-called high guard defense. Tonight, Paul Williams (37-1, 27 KOs) made a mockery of Wright’s once airtight defense, raining countless punches on Wright and simply overwhelming his guard, beating him by a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision at the Mandalay Bay Events center, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Williams-Wright: Why Paul Will Beat Winky

williams-quintana464629By Manuel Perez: As much as I think that 37-year-old Ronald “Winky” Wright (51-4-1, 25 KOs) is a great fighter, I predict he’s going to get knocked out on Saturday night by the younger 27-year-old Paul Williams (36-1, 27 KOs) in their 12-round bout at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wright may be known for his rock solid defense, his straight jab and his almost impregnable guard, but Williams has the youth, work rate and offense to defeat all of those assets of Wright.

I tell them it has nothing to do with negotiations, it’s because no one wants to fight me. No one wants to fight Winky Wright. They say it’s about the money, but it isn’t that. I wanted to fight Pavlik and Calzaghe, I’d go to England to fight him if he wanted, but the fact of the matter is, no one wants to fight Winky.”
