Lomachenko-Walters fight has Arum excited

lomachenko9

By Chris Williams: After the previous failed negotiations for a super fight, WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs) and Nicholas Walters (26-0-1, 21 KOs) were finally able to get a fight put together for them to face each other on November 26 at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes that the 28-year-old Lomachenko is the best fighter in boxing. I’m not sure if the facts bear that out. Lomachenko is a good fighter, but up until recently, he was more of a boxer rather than a puncher. Arum sees Lomachenko as a puncher now, and I still don’t think that’s accurate. We’ll have to see.

Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Nicholas Walters on November 26

Vasyl Lomachenko

By Chris Williams: Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs) will be defending his WBO super featherweight title against fellow Top Rank fighter Nicholas Walters (26-0-1, 21 KOs) on November 26 at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. This is great news for boxing fans, especially those who were tired of waiting for Lomachenko and Walters to finally face each other.

The fight should have been made in 2015 rather than at the tail end of 2016. It’s better late than never. Lomachenko and Walters have both reportedly signed the contract for the fight, which will be televised on HBO Championship Boxing unless Top Rank promoter Bob Arum chooses to go it alone by having them fight on his own show. Hopefully that doesn’t happen.

Salido vs. Lomachenko rematch unlikely

salido7

By Chris Williams: The negotiations between the managers for WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomahenko and Orlando Salido reportedly are not going well at this time. Salido’s management isn’t happy with the money that was offered to them for the fight and is thinking of going in another direction towards a fight against Takashi Miura. Salido was given a take it or leave it offer by Lomachenko’s management, according the LA Times. That’s not going to work to make the fight happen. Salido wants to be well paid for a rematch against Lomachenko, and if that’s not going to happen, then he’s going to be moving on.

Salido, 35, reportedly is being offered $500,000 for the fight against Lomachenko. The Ukrainian fighter will be making between $850,000 and $1 million. Lomachenko could wind up making twice the amount that Salido makes in the fight, and that clearly doesn’t sit right with him or his manager Sean Gibbons.

Lomachenko vs. Salido 2 in Oct. or Nov

lomachenko4

By Allan Fox: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is planning on setting up a rematch between WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs) and 35-year-old former two division world champion Orlando Salido (43-13-4, 30 KOs) for October or November of this year.

This would be a strategic move by Arum in making the Lomachenko vs. Salido rematch rather than putting Salido back in with WBC super featherweight champion Francisco Vargas (23-0-2, 17 KOs), who Salido fought to a 12 round draw against on June 4 in a ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate.

If you were to pool the boxing fans from all around the United States in which fight they would prefer to see, Vargas vs. Salido 2 or Lomachenko vs. Salido 2, it’s likely that the overwhelming response from the fans would be the Vargas-Salido 2 fight.

Lomachenko not sure which title he’ll keep

lomachenko9

By Chris Williams: WBO World super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs) has until August 11 next month to decide which of his two WBO titles he’ll be keeping. Lomachenko holds the WBO title at featherweight as well as the WBO super featherweight strap. He recently captured the WBO 130lb title last month on June 11 in stopping champion Roman “Rocky” Garcia in the 5th round at Madison Square Garden.

Lomachenko made it clear after the fight that he’s interested in avenging his loss to super featherweight Orlando Salido from 2015. Lomachenko is also interested in facing WBC 130lb champion Francisco Vargas. However, Lomachenko’s manager Egis Klimas says they’re not sure which title they’ll be keeping.

Lomachenko to stay at 130; Oscar Valdez faces Rueda for vacant WBO 126 title

lomachenko8

By Eric Baldwin: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says his fighter unbeaten Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs) plans on staying at 130lbs rather than moving back down to 126 to resume defending his WBO featherweight title, according to Dan Rafael. Lomachenko recently moved up in weight to super featherweight earlier this month and defeated WBO 130lb champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-3-3, 17 KOs) to capture his title on June 11 at Madison Square Garden, New York.

Lomachenko’s now vacant WBO featherweight title will be fought over next month by unbeaten #1 WBO Oscar Valdez (19-0, 17 KOs) and #2 WBO Matias Carlos Adrian Rueda (26-0, 23 KOs) on July 23 in the co-feature bout on the undercard of the Terence Crawford vs. Viktor Postol card on HBO pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Arum could match Lomachenko against Crawford

lomachenko3

By Eric Baldwin: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum sees his two fighters Terence Crawford and Vasyl Lomachenko as the two biggest stars in boxing now that Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are both retired from the sport. Arum says he might match Crawford and Lomachenko up against each other in the future if the money is right.

It would be a huge PPV fight if Arum does make that fight. A fight between Crawford and Lomachenko would be a win-win match for Arum and for both fighters. The winner becomes a major star in the sport, and the loser’s profile would be increased as well.

Terry Flanagan wants Vasyl Lomachenko fight

flanagan44444

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan (30-0, 12 KOs) is interested in defending his WBO 135lb against newly crowned WBO super featherweight champion when/if he chooses to move up in weight to the lightweight division. Heck, I wouldn’t mind seeing Flanagan and Lomachenko fight each other. It would be a great fight if they could do it right now, not years from now.

Flanagan would have a four inch height advantage over the 5’5” Lomachenko, as well as a long reach and likely weight advantage. Even if Lomachenko put on a lot of weight, he would still be dwarfed by Flanagan in that fight. However, that doesn’t mean Flanagan would win. I think he would get easily out-boxed by Lomahenko.

Salido: It’s not personal for me with Lomachenko

salido7

By Chris Williams: For newly crowned WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs) his issues he has with Orlando Salido (43-13-4, 30 KOs) are personal because he whipped him two years ago and made him look bad in their fight in 2014. The desire to avenge that loss burns inside the 28-year-old Lomachenko, causing him to want to want a second fight against the 35-year-old Salido. However, the feeling isn’t mutual for Salido, because he already beat the best Lomachenko there can ever be two years ago, and there’s no reason to go down that beaten track again.

It’s a reverse move on Salido’s part if he were to go backwards with his career and fight Lomachenko again, because Salido is now beyond that fight and doesn’t need to live in the past by fighting guys he already dominated in the past.

Thomas Dulorme vs. Jesus Gurrola on June 18

(Photo credit: David Infante @787Films/Team Dulorme) By Allan Fox: Former light welterweight world title challenger Thomas Dulorme (22-2, 14 KOs) will be returning to the ring this Saturday night on June 18 in facing 28-year-old journeyman Jesus Gurrola (22-8-3, 10 KOs) in an eight-round bout at the Pabellón de la Feria, Albacete, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. Dulorme will be moving back up to 147 for this fight. Dulorme previously fought at welterweight until getting knocked out by Luis Carlos Abregu in October 2012.

Dulorme, 26, hasn’t fought since being stopped in the 6th round by Terence Crawford last year in April 2015 in a failed attempt to win the vacant WBO light welterweight title in Arlington, Texas. Dulorme gave Crawford problems in rounds one through five. However, things fell apart for Dulorme in round six, when Crawford knocked him down three times in the process of knocking him out. That loss for Dulorme had to be a bitter pill for him to swallow because he had won his previous six fights after having been stopped in the 7th round by Argentinian slugger Abregu.
