Andrade says he’d beat Mayweather, Canelo and Cotto

andradeBy Dan Ambrose: #2 WBO Demetrius Andrade (19-0, 13 KO’s) will be facing #1 WBO Vanes Martirosyan (33-0-1, 21 KO’s) this Saturday night for the vacant WBO junior middleweight title on HBO at the American Bank Center, in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. While Andrade still still hasn’t beaten Martirosyan, he already believes that he’ll beat Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto, Erislandy Lara and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez if given the chance.

The chances of Andrade getting fights against any of them are quite low, even if he stops Martirosyan on Saturday night. Andrade doesn’t have the name attract interest from any of those fighters except for perhaps Lara.

WBC removes Martirosyan from 154 lb. eliminator for Canelo

martirosyan32By Dan Ambrose: The World Boxing Council has chosen to remove unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan from the WBC junior middleweight eliminator for a shot at WBC 154 pound champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez after Martirosyan failed to say yes to a second eliminator bout against Erislandy Lara after their previous fight ended in a 9th round technical draw last November.

With Martirosyan now out of the hunt for a fight against Alvarez, the WBC will select another contender to face Lara in the WBC eliminator bout. A possible option is #3 WBC Sergiy Rabchenko (22-0, 16 KO’s), a hard hitting contender from Belarus with good skills but limited experience. He may not have the talent to beat Lara, but he does have the power to give Lara a difficult fight for as long as it lasts.

Groves to face Ndiaye for EBU 168 lb title; Martirosyan-Lara rematch

groves343434By Scott Gilfoid: Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves (16-0, 12 KO’s) will be facing #8 WBC Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye (22-1, 13 KO’s) for James DeGale’s recently vacated EBU super middleweight title in a still determined time and venue. Groves’ promoter Frank Warren reportedly won the purse bid for the fight.

It’s a fight that is really hard to understand because Groves is ranked #1 WBO, #5 WBA, #6 WBC, #7 IBF and there’s really no point at all in facing the little known 33-year-old Ndiaye for the European Boxing Union strap when Groves is already going to be getting a title shot against World Boxing Organization super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham in 2013.

Martirosyan would have lost to Lara had the fight gone the distance

Image: Martirosyan would have lost to Lara had the fight gone the distanceBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten junior middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan (32-0-1, 20 KO’s) should consider himself very lucky that his fight was halted against Erislandy Lara (17-1-2, 11 KO’s) in the 9th round from a clash of heads last Saturday night because Martirosyan looked like he was on his way to losing that fight.

As it was the fight was halted and ruled a 9th round technical draw when Martirosyan was cut over the left eye during the head clash. It worked out well for Martirosyan because he was getting dominated in the last three rounds of the fight and he looked tired and confused against the southpaw Lara.
