By Scott Gilfoid: #8 IBF, #15 WBC heavyweight contender Tony “The Tiger” Thompson (39-4, 26 KO’s) doesn’t think too much of UK fighter Tyson Fury (22-0, 16 KO’s) after watching some of his fights, and he sees the 6’9” British heavyweight as an easier mark than David Price, who Thompson twice destroyed in 2013 in quick knockouts. Thompson doesn’t see much talent from Fury, and he thinks he’s vulnerable to pretty much any heavyweight they put him in with due to his lack of ability.
Fury has a fight coming up in four months against Derek Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) in a WBO heavyweight eliminator bout at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, UK. However, after that fight, should Fury win, he’s going to have a lot of time in between then and the time he gets an eventual world title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, because the Ukrainian champion has another WBO mandatory challenger in Kubrat Pulev who he has to fight later this year. As such, Fury will be sitting around for a long, long time waiting for his title shot against Wladimir.
By Allan Fox: 42-year-old Tony Thompson (38-4, 16 KO’s) beat a lazy-looking Odlanier Solis (20-2, 13 KO’s) by a 12 round split decision on Saturday night to capture the vacant WBC International heavyweight title at the Tekirdag, Turkey. The final judges scores were 115-114, 115-113 for Thompson. The final judges had it 116-112 for Solis. Thompson appeared to win 11 of the 12 rounds in my scoring of the fight. The only round that Solis fought well enough to win was the 2nd. All the rest of the rounds he was badly outworked by the older and much bigger Thompson.
By Allan fox: Cuban heavyweight Odlanier Solis (20-1, 13 KO’s) weighed in on Friday for his fight tomorrow night against two-time title challenger Tony Thompson (38-4, 6 KO’s) in Istanbul, Turkey. Solid weighed in at 257 lbs, which is a fairly slim weight for him. He’s been as high as 271 during his career, which is around 40 lbs too much for him given his short 6’1″ height. Solis was perfect as an amateur in weighing 200 lbs in 2004 before coming over to the U.S and quickly piling on a lot of weight.

The two fighters will be battling it out for the vacant WBC International heavyweight title. But the fight is a lot more important than the little known title that will be on the line. The winner of the fight will keep in the hunt for a world title shot against one of the heavyweight champions, while the loser will likely see his career skittering downward in the top 15 rankings.

By Scott Gilfoid: #3 WBC Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO’s) is hoping that his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions can line up a fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight title against #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) once WBC heavyweight title holder Vitali Klitschko vacates his title or is stripped of his belt by the WBC for failing to defend it in over a year.
