Tomasz Adamek Dominates Gary Gomez

adamek657457.jpgBy Jim Dower: Former light heavyweight champion, now fighting as a cruiserweight, Tomasz Adamek (35-1, 24 KOs) totally dominated a badly over-matched Gary Gomez (18-10-1, 7 KOs), eventually winning when Gomez quit on his stool after the end of the 6th round, complaining that he had broken his right hand and couldn’t continue. It just so happened that Gomez was taking a tremendous beating and wasn’t able to land hardly a glove on Adamek for the entire fight. The win was an important one for the number #1 ranked IBF cruiserweight contender Adamek, for it puts him in line for a bout with IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham.

Adamek, 31, was making his appearance since defeating O’Neil Bell by an 8th round TKO in April, a fight which cemented Adamek as the number #1 contender for Cunningham’s IBF cruiserweight title. Adamek had little problem with the short, round Gomez, who was too slow and predictable for Adamek and was nothing more than a large punching bag for him for the entire six-rounds of the fight.

Adamek Stops Bell

By Dan Ambrose: Number #3 ranked IBF cruiserweight contender Tomasz Adamek (34-1, 22 KOs) was far too fast for the former undisputed cruiserweight champion O’Neil Bell (26-4-1, 24 KOs) tonight, stopping him when the 35 year-old Bell failed to come out for the 8th round at the Spodek, in Katowice, Poland.. Bell was down in the 1st round, having been hit with a sharp left hand from Adamek. The punch appeared to have caught Bell off guard as he was coming in. However, it seemed to give an indication of how things would go for Bell, who was simply too slow to compete with the quicker, more skilled former light heavyweight champion Adamek.

Bell vs. Adamek: Look For An Easy KO Win For O’Neil

bell46.jpgBy Eric Thomas: Former cruiserweight WBA/WBC/IBF cruiserweight champion O’Neil Bell (26-2-1, 24 KOs) will return to the ring tomorrow night after a year layoff to go up against former WBC light heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek (33-1, 22 KOs) in a IBF cruiserweight title eliminator at the Spodek, in Katowice, Poland. You got to feel for Bell, 34, who lost his WBA & WBC cruiserweight titles last year in a questionable decision to Jean-Marc Mormeck in France. In watching the fight, there was no possible way that Mormeck could have won the fight, and it appeared that Bell had won the fight easily with at least two-three rounds to spare.

However, the fight was held in Mormeck’s native France, so it came to no surprise that Bell would come out short on the stick if the fight was even slightly close. It wasn’t close, yet Bell lost anyway. Now, for the second time Bell is going to tempt fate, this time by traveling to Poland where he will be fighting in the 31 year-old Polish Adamek’s back yard. Of course, the same things apply to this bout as did Bell’s previous fight, in that he’ll have to either knock Adamek out or win pretty much every round of the fight if he wants to come out on top.

Adamek Decisions Jalusic

adamek464323.jpgFormer World Boxing Council light heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek (33-1, 22 KOs) had an easy time defeating Josip Jalusic (8-9-1) by 8-round unanimous decision on Saturday night on the Cunningham vs. Huck undercard at the K Seidensticker Halle, in Bielefeld, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Adamek, 31, was making his second fight at cruiserweight after abandoning the light heavyweight division following a one-sided unanimous decision loss to Chad Dawson in February, a bout in which Adamek lost his light heavyweight title.

Instead of re-tooling his skills and challenging Dawson again, or one of the other light heavyweight champions, Adamek opted to move up to the cruiserweight division, in part due to his constant struggle of having to drop weight to make the light heavyweight class. Like in his initial bout at cruiserweight, Adamek decided to fight a soft opponent, and Jalusic, a a mediocre record of 8-8 going into the bout, was certainly every bit of soft. Adamek out-punched Jalusic an average of 50-4 in all eight rounds of the fight, making it a painful fight to watch due to the one-sided nature of the fight.
