Jeff Mayweather: Trout will need to really dominate Canelo to get a decision win

Web-P3142429By Dan Ambrose: Jeff Mayweather believes that WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) is in a tough situation facing the much more popular and big time money maker WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) next month on April 20th at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Mayweather thinks Trout is going to have to really dominate Canelo if he wants to escape from the Alamodome with a decision in this fight because of Canelo’s popularity, and because of the huge money he brings to the sport of boxing.

Saul Alvarez is the embodiment of boxing mentality

canelo22By Mark Havey: People have been quick to denounce the credibility of WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s place in the top echelon of boxing. Some fans have rightly stated that many of his opponents had no right being in the ring with him, or no right being in a ring at all. I can’t deny this, no one can. But the man affectionately known as Canelo by his native Mexico can only beat what’s in front of him.

In 42 fight Saul Alvarez is unbeaten. It’s important to remember that he turned professional at such a young age. He was only 15 years old. He was a athlete in the hardest sport in the world whilst still being a child. So he can be forgiven for fighting journey men a little longer than most.

Canelo won’t get the chance to throw to Trout’s body

canelo33(Photo credit: Trapp/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) isn’t much of a puncher when it comes to throwing head shots. His specialty is to throw body shots. If he’s got an opponent that stands directly in front of him without moving, Canelo is incredibly dangerous with body punching.

Canelo is like a mini Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. when it comes to throwing to the body. Unfortunately for him, Canelo is facing a modern fighter on April 20th in WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) that isn’t the type that just stands there foolishly letting his opponents throw punches to the body.

Canelo wants Guerrero to beat Mayweather on 5/4

09GuerreroandwifeCaseyIMG_0274(Photo credit: Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Having been ignored in his attempts at getting the biggest payday of his career in a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) in September, WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is now hoping that Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) will defeat Mayweather in their fight on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo said in an interview with esnewsreportingcom: “Anything can happen in boxing, but I hope Guerrero wins.”

So the question is does Canelo really want Guerrero to win and why or is he just saying what he thinks his loyal fan base want to hear? In other words, Canelo pulling for another Mexican like himself to defeat Floyd.

Trout: Canelo is going to be an easy fight for me

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABy Dan Ambrose: WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) is putting in hard workouts in his sparring sessions to get ready for his April 20th unification bout against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Trout already saw Canelo’s fighting style as one that he could easily negate, but with his recent sparring sessions against fighters with the same style as Canelo, Trout is even more certain that he’ll have an easy time dominating the orange-haired Canelo on April 20th.

Canelo-Trout: Styles make fights and no guarantees in boxing

austin3By Gilbert Leal: First of all, this isn’t really an article. its just some guys opinion and prediction. Anyway, I’ll start by saying that this is boxing so nothing is for certain. Take Manny Pacquiao being knocked out in emphatic fashion by Juan Manuel Marquez for example. So all this certainty I have heard regarding this fight is kind of shocking and just leads me to believe that we have a lot of inexperienced fight fans here.

Now about the fighters; we all know WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) is very young and is still just a rising star who has only proven that, as of late, he does pretty well at beating decent, but still hand picked opponents as well as a couple crafty and experienced veterans one of which is definitely a future hall of famer. But he is strong with good fundamentals for boxing and a good eye for counter-punching since I would classify him as a boxer-puncher with an emphasis on puncher.

Canelo: The Trout-Cotto fight was close

cotto444By Dan Ambrose: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) believes the Miguel Cotto vs. Austin Trout fight last December was a close one with very little difference between the winner and the loser of the fight. Trout won the fight by a fairly lopsided 12 round unanimous decision by the scores 117-111, 117-111, and 119-109.

Canelo said to esnewsreporting.com “It was very close. There wasn’t much difference between them.”

I’m not sure which fight Canelo was watching but the one that I saw was pretty one-sided after the fourth round.

Canelo-Trout 30-day weigh-in: 166.5 lbs.

Web-P3142364By Dan Ambrose: WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) weighed in today for his 30-day weigh-in at 166.5, a mere 12.5 pounds over the 154 pound weight limit for his April 20th fight against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s). Canelo weighed in at exactly the same weight at 166.5.

Trout, 27, will likely hold his weight around the mid-160 region, as he’ll have no problem stripping down 10 to 12 pounds of water weight when it comes time to dehydrate the week of his fight with Canelo at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Trout, 5’10”, is a big junior middleweight, but he’s very agile for the weight that he carries. He’s not like a tank with the weight carries. He’s able to glide around the ring effortlessly to shoot out his jab, right hook and left hand.

Trout: I’m going to take Canelo out of his game

Web-P3142242By Dan Ambrose: WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) says he’s going to take WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) out of his element on April 20th and expose him in their fight at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas.

Trout is going to force Canelo to use his wheels in this fight, and make him move more than he ever has before. If you’ve looked at Canelo’s previous fights you’ll see that he’s a pure plodder and can’t move well at all around the ring.

Trout said to Fightnews.com “I don’t think he has his man strength yet. I will impose my will on him. I am going to take him out of his comfort level…I have the tools with my jab and foot work.”
