One name that won’t be in the equation for the 24-year-old Canelo’s next fight is WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs). De La Hoya says he’s going to make the fight between Canelo and Golovkin when the time is right. Evidently this isn’t the right time to put the fight together, according to De La Hoya.

I say middleweight because Canelo hasn’t fought at junior middleweight in close to two years. Canelo’s fight tonight against James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs) will be held at middleweight at a catch-weight of 155 pounds at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.
