Image: Canelo will beat Cotto, says JudahBy Dan Ambrose: Boxing great Zab Judah says he’s leaning in the direction of the 25-year-old Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) to top WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) on November 21st and take his title in their match-up on HBO pay-per-view.

Judah has fought the 34-year-old Cotto in the past in losing by an 11th round knockout defeat in June 2007, so he’s well versed in what kind of game he has. Judah thinks that Canelo’s superior size, youth and punching power will be the telling factors in him getting a win over Cotto.

Image: De La Hoya: Cotto-Canelo could hit 2 million mark on PPVBy Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya thinks that the mega-clash between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) and Golden Boy fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) could wind up bringing in more PPV buys than the September 18th, 1999 fight between De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad.

That fight brought in 1.4 million PPV buys. However, Canelo believes that the Cotto vs. Canelo fight can bring in 2 million PPV buys on HBO, which would make it the 4th highest PPV fight in history.

Cotto: If Golovkin fight is best interest for me, I’m going for that

cotto5665By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) says he could wind up facing IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) in his next fight if it’s a fight that is in his best interest. That means the Golovkin fight must give Cotto the most cash of all the possible fights out there for him, and I’m not sure if that’s going to be the case unless Golovkin shows in his next fight that he can bring in a lot of the green stuff.

Cotto has got get past his fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) on November 21st, and Golovkin must defeat IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) in their fight on October 17th.

Image: Cotto says Roach is his best weapon to defeat CaneloBy Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) is full of confidence ahead of his title defense against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The person who has helped instill that confidence is his 55-year-old trainer Freddie Roach, who has fine-tuned Cotto’s game and put a sharp focus on the tools that made him one of the best fighters in the sport. Roach didn’t add any new tools to Cotto’s already full toolkit. Instead, Roach has helped Cotto define the right tools for the job each time he fights.

Image: Canelo with the edge over Cotto on November 21stBy Paco Gurrola: Many writers and bloggers have made it clear that their top contender for the November 21st clash between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) is the most experienced and mature fighter of them both, 34-year-old Cotto.

Cotto has had a great boxing career with his ups and downs like most fighters in the sport during his career. Miguel is an amazing person, very humble and takes his job very seriously as we all know.

Roach: Cotto-Canelo winner should fight Golovkin down the line

Image: Roach: Cotto-Canelo winner should fight Golovkin down the lineBy Dan Ambrose: Freddie Roach, the trainer for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) says that winner of the November 21st fight between Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) will eventually get around to fighting the WBC mandatory challenger Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) in the future.

Roach wouldn’t say when that time will be. All he could do is say that the winner of the Cotto vs. Canelo fight will eventually fight Golovkin in the future. Unfortunately for Golovkin, this ties in with what Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya has been saying. De La Hoya says he doesn’t know what’s going to happen with the Cotto-Canelo fight.

Canelo doesn’t believe that Cotto has an experience advantage over him despite him having been a pro career that has lasted five years shorter. Cotto had a long and successful amateur career, whereas Canelo didn’t have one.

De La Hoya says there could be Cotto-Canelo trilogy; hints that Golovkin fight not happening soon

Image: De La Hoya says there could be Cotto-Canelo trilogy; hints that Golovkin fight not happening soonBy Dan Ambrose: While Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya has said that he wants to put on the fights that the boxing fans want to see, one fight that they might not get a chance to see for a while is a match-up between Golden Boy flagship fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) and IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs).

De La Hoya didn’t come right out and say that a fight between Canelo and Golovkin won’t be happening, but he did drop a very big hint that the fight probably won’t be happening anytime soon.

De La Hoya says 2.5 million fans won’t see boxing again after Mayweather-Pacquiao fight

Floyd Mayweather JrBy Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya says that the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao last May turned off 2.5 million new boxing fans, who he feels will never come back to watch another boxing event due to De La Hoya believing that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight failed to provide the action and excitement that it was originally billed as potentially supplying. For De La Hoya, it obviously hits him hard if the casual fans don’t come back to watch future pay-per-view fights, because he promotes a lot of fights, and it will be bad if the fan don’t come back.

“Pacquiao-Mayweather didn’t live up to expectations whatsoever,” De La Hoya said to Fighthype.com. “You had 2.5 million people, new customers, disappointed. They wanted to see a fight, and now these are never going to want to see boxing again because of that fight. So that’s what I have a problem with. Now I’m speaking as a promoter. I love fights. I love action. I want to see an action fight. That’s what I’m going to see on November 21st [with Canelo vs. Cotto],” De La Hoya said.

Cotto: My brother put Canelo in a bad position at 135lbs

Image: Cotto: My brother put Canelo in a bad position at 135lbsBy Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) reminded the boxing media about an event that took place give years ago when his little brother Jose Miguel Cotto had Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) badly hurt and basically out on his feet give years ago in the 1st round in their fight in 2010. Jose hurt Canelo with a hard right hand that had him stunned. He then unloaded everything but the kitchen sink on Canelo while trying to finish him off, but unfortunately for Jose, he smothered his own work by standing too close to Canelo and he was unable to finish him off.

At the time of the fight, Jose was a 135lb lightweight, while Canelo was a hulking welterweight. Canelo was more like junior middleweight at the time of the fight. He was 20-years-old at the time.
