Khan says his power has tripled

1-CaneloKhanNYPC_Hoganphotos8By Dan Ambrose: In what could be a bad sign for WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, his opponent Amir “King” Khan is saying that he feels that his power is almost at triple strength of what it normally is because he’s eating more, not having to cut weight and he’s building his power through exercises.

Canelo and Khan will be facing each other in less than two months at a catch-weight of 155lbs on May 7 on HBO pay-per-view. The fight will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan: If Canelo fails to make weight, the fight won’t happen

khan3444By Dan Ambrose: Challenger Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) is saying that if WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) comes in over the contractually agreed upon 155 pound catch-weight limit at the weigh-in on May 6th, then there won’t be a fight taking place on May 7 on HBO pay-per-view.

Khan says he gave up on the idea of trying to get the fight at 154 after Team Canelo turned him down, and he’s not just going to let him blow off the catch-weight limit and come in at 157 or 158. The good news for Khan is that Canelo is usually pretty good at making weight.

Khan’s top 3 possible opponents if he beats Canelo

1-CaneloKhanLondonTour_Hoganphotos5By Jeff Aranow: If Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) can do the impossible on May 7th and defeat WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to claim his title, he’s going to have a lot of options for big money fights. Khan will be buried with likely fight offers from some of the biggest names from 140 to 168.

Canelo reportedly has a rematch clause in his contract with Khan, so that’s something that Khan may need to explore at some point. However, Khan might be able to get in a fight in between the rematch with Canelo. That’s what I’m expecting to happen. Canelo-Khan will be seen by a lot of boxing fans, as the fight will be televised on HBO pay-per-view.

Golovkin will only fight Canelo at 160, says Sanchez

Image: Golovkin will only fight Canelo at 160, says SanchezBy Dan Ambrose: Abel Sanchez, the trainer for Gennady Golovkin, says WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez only has one options available to him if he wants to keep his WBC middleweight title after his May 7th fight against Amir Khan. If Canelo is still in possession of his WBC title, then he’ll need to decide whether he wants to fight #1 WBC mandatory challenger Golovkin at the full weight of 160lbs or not.

If Canelo chooses to try and push a catch-weight of 155lbs on Golovkin, Sanchez says that they will not agree to that. Canelo will then either have to vacate his WBC title or get stripped of it for failing to defend it against Golovkin at the full weight.

Khan said he was told Canelo fight had to be at 155

1-CaneloKhanOlive_Hoganphotos2-olivetreeBy Dan Ambrose: Amir Khan is denying that he was the one that wanted to fight at 155lbs for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s WBC middleweight title.

Canelo told the media this past week that the reason why he and Khan are fighting at 155lbs on May 7th, was because Khan wanted to fight for his WBC middleweight title in their fight on HBO pay-per-view. However, Khan says he was given no choice in the matter.

Khan: Canelo is making a mistake if he comes in heavy

khan2345By Dan Ambrose: Amir “King” Khan believes Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be making a grave error in judgement if he chooses to bulk up for their May 7 fight and try to crush him with his size and power. Khan feels that his own speed will neutralize Canelo’s size, and he’ll end up out-boxing him in their fight on HBO pay-per-view.

For all Canelo’s size, Khan doesn’t see him as that much bigger puncher than himself. Khan says Canelo is just a bigger fighter with more muscle weight, but not better skills or necessarily that much better power.

The one thing Canelo’s superior weight advantage helps him with is absorbing shots to the head and body. Canelo seems to be able to take shots better with his heavy size. We saw that in Canelo’s last fight against Miguel Cotto in which the 160+lb Cotto was landing his shots against the much bigger Canelo and having no effect on him.

Canelo is not bigger than boxing, says Julian Williams

1-CaneloKhanLondonPC_Hoganphotos9By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten junior middleweight contender Julian Williams (22-0, 14 KOs) says he doesn’t like how WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is fighting at catch-weights. He does not agree with Canelo holding the WBC middleweight and then expecting his opponents to fight him at 155lbs rather than at 160.

Williams thinks Canelo is trying to create his own weight class by fighting at 155 and then using his clout to get his opponents to fight him at this weight. Williams thinks that Canelo should either defend his WBC title at the full weight of 160lbs against his mandatory challenger Gennady “GGG” Golovkin or he should vacate the belt.

Canelo says he’d have plan A, B and C for Pacquiao fight

Image: Canelo says he’d have plan A, B and C for Pacquiao fightBy Chris Williams: WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) was asked what he would do if he were to get a fight against Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao. Instead of ruling the fight out completely, Canelo says he would reveal his plans for the fight when the fight happened.

Canelo didn’t rule out the fight, which was kind of unusual because it suggests that he’s willing to take the fight if it was offered to him. Canelo did offer that he would have several plans for the Pacquiao fight. He wouldn’t just come into the fight with one plan.

Lemieux: I’m going to cross paths with Canelo

Lemieux-DelaRosa (2)(Photo Credit: Eye of the Tiger Management) By Dan Ambrose: David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) is dead certain that he’ll be facing WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in the near future. Lemieux is co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, who also promotes Canelo.

Lemieux says that he will definitely be facing Canelo. Lemieux isn’t saying when the fight with Canelo will be taking place, but it wouldn’t be at all surprising if it happens this year in September on the Mexican Independence Day holiday weekend, because that’s when Canelo will be fighting after his fight with Amir Khan on May 7.

Lemieux: Khan might get hurt by Canelo

1-CaneloKhanLAPC2_Hoganphotos5By Dan Ambrose: Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux thinks Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) is making a bully like move by selecting welterweight Amir Khan (31-3, 19 Kos) for his first defense of his WBC middleweight title on May 7.

While Lemieux does think Khan is a very good fighter, he sees him as simply too small for the heavier Canelo, who could outweigh Khan by a considerable amount of weight by the time the two of them step foot inside the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lemieux feels that Khan might end up getting hurt by Canelo in this fight on HBO pay-per-view.
