Canelo to Golovkin “At 25 I’ve faced the best in the world. Look who he just faced!”

CaneloPrepares4Khan_Hoganphotos1By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) came out firing both barrels at IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in response to his comments about now wanting to give up weight by draining down to fight Canelo at a catch-weight of 155lbs in order to fight for his WBC 160lb title.

Canelo replied back on Monday in telling the media that he doesn’t care what Golovkin says because while he’s facing guys like Dominic Wade, he’s already fought many world champions and he’s still only 25-years-old.

De La Hoya says Canelo-Golovkin fight could take place in the fall

CaneloPrepares4Khan_Hoganphotos10By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is saying that a fight between his guy Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and unbeaten Gennady “GGG” Golovkin could take place this fall depending on what happens on Canelo’s next fight on May 7 against Amir Khan. De La Hoya says he’ll meet with Canelo the next day on May 8 and the decision will be made about which direction the 25-year-old Mexican star will go in. De La Hoya says the fight will take place soon.

I think it’s obviously important for Canelo to take the fight against Golovkin soon, because there’s too much risk of the fight imploding if Canelo loses another fight. Canelo isn’t one of thoe guys that has a ton of talent to where he can be counted on to win by a slam dunk each time he fights. We saw how Canelo almost lost to Erislandy Lara and Austin Trout. Many boxing fans thought Canelo did lose those fights.

Gennady Golovkin: Three potential opponents for next fight

1-Golovkin_Wade_AY1J4785By Tom Hochbaum: Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin just fought last weekend, but it wasn’t enough. Triple G did was Triple G does: Brutally knockout a highly ranked Middleweight. This time, it was Dominic Wade. The previously undefeated Wade was coming off of an unimpressive decision victory over Sam Soliman.

While Soliman does have a very awkward style that can make it difficult to look sharp against, the fact the Soliman was the biggest test on Wade’s resume should have been an indication that Wade probably was not ready for GGG. However, with #1 ranked challenger Tureano Johnson suffering an injury, the IBF chose to promote Wade to Golovkin’s mandatory.

Gomez: Team Golovkin asking Canelo to move up one entire division

canelo48By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions executive Eric Gomez says Team Golovkin is asking their fighter WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to move up an entire division to fight IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin at the full weight for the middleweight division at 160lbs.

Gomez says Golovkin would not move up an entire division to fight former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward at 168. Gomez feels that Golovkin should meet Canelo at a catch-weight because he’s not yet become a middleweight.

Golovkin’s trainer rips Canelo for creating his own weight division

1-CaneloKhanLondonPC_Hoganphotos7By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Abel Sanchez says WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) is little more than a diva due to him fighting at catch-weights of 155lbs and changing the sport by creating a new division with his catch-weight fights at that weight.

Sanchez feels that Canelo should grow some courage and fight at the full weight of 160lbs so Sanchez’s fighter IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) can face him for the WBC title later this year if Canelo wins against Amir Khan in less than two weeks on May 7. Sanchez doesn’t like the way that Canelo has changed the sport with his new catch-weight 155lb division.

Jones expects Canelo to avoid Golovkin fight for Pacquiao payday

golovkin901By Dan Ambrose: HBO commentator Roy Jones Jr. doubts that WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will choose to fight interim WBC champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin if Canelo can get past his fight in two weeks against Amir Khan, because Jones believes that Canelo will be facing Manny Pacquiao for much more money. Golovkin looked sensational last night in dispatching Dominic Wade (18-1, 12 KOs) in two rounds in a fight televised by HBO Boxing from The Forum in Inglewood, California. The win by Golovkin may have scared Canelo off unfortunately.

There’s little doubt that Pacquiao’s promoters at Top Rank would make the fight between Pacquiao and Canelo if the Filipino star chooses to return to the ring this year. However, Pacquiao is now retired and is supposed to be going into a life of politics in the Philippines.

Pacquiao is not likely going to come back to the sport to fight a dangerous opponent like Canelo, who would have at least a 20-pound weight advantage over him, possibly even as 25lb weight advantage. That would be an unreal circus-like fight.

Golovkin beats Wade, then calls out Canelo

golovkin83By Jeff Aranow: Fighting in front of a big crowd of 16,353 fans, IBF/IBO/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) put Dominic Wade (18-1, 12 KOs) down three times before the fight was stopped in the 2nd round on Saturday night at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

After the fight, Golovkin had a message to WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to bring his WBC belt and give it to him. Golovkin said this because he obviously feels that Canelo won’t be choosing to fight him after he beats Amir Khan in their fight on May 7.

Kovalev: I understand why Canelo doesn’t want Golovkin fight

1-wade-vs-golovkin (5)By Dan Ambrose: Earlier today, IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (29-0-1, 26 KOs) announced his next fight on July 11 against Isaac Chilemba (24-3-2, 10 KOs) for Ekaterinburg, Russia.

Kovalev was asked whether he thinks IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will beat WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) later this year if/when the fight happens in September, and Kovalev answered in the affirmative.

Golovkin: Canelo isn’t Mayweather

Image: Golovkin: Canelo isn't MayweatherBy Patrick McHugh: Gennady Golovkin reminded the media on Thursday that he has no intentions whatsoever in placating WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) by coming down to 155lbs to fight him at a catch-weight of 155lbs in September of this year. Golovkin says he’d move down to 154 for a superstar like Floyd Mayweather Jr., but not for a fighter like Canelo.

Golovkin’s comment basically means there won’t be a fight between him and Canelo in 2016. Golovkin may get a hold of Canelo’s world title by virtue of the WBC stripping him for failing to fight Golovkin, but it’s not as if the Kazakhstan fighter is coming out ahead by picking up the WBC title without fighting Canelo.

Khan confident he’ll beat Canelo

1-KhanPrepares4Canelo_HoganphotosBy Dan Ambrose: WBC heavyweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) has what many boxing fans see as the perfect opponent for him to showcase his skills against in Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) for their fight on May 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo is bigger, stronger and younger than Khan. The belief by many fans is Canelo will simply wall though Khan’s lighter punches in the early rounds until he eventually lands something hard enough to stop him. If Khan gets hurt, he won’t be able to keep the stronger Canelo off of him to survive the round.
