Tyson – The Heavyweight Division Needs Someone Like Him

tyson333By Dan Ambrose: It’s been over three years since former IBF/WBA/WBC heavyweight champion Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) has last fought, but yet there’s been no heavyweight that has come close to matching Tyson’s huge appeal and domination since that time. In his prime, Tyson was unbeatable, stopping excellent fighters like Razor Ruddock, Michael Spinks, Larry Holmes, Andrew Golota, Frank Bruno and many more. When he was in shape and focused, in particular earlier in his career, Tyson may have been the best heavyweight that every lived.

The WBA Looking Into Valuev Win Over Holyfield

valuev44By Eric Thomas: In news that will probably get some hope up for some boxing fans, the WBA is reportedly looking into the 12-round majority decision victory of WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs) over Evander Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 KOs) that occurred on December 20th in Switzerland. The final judge’s scores were 115-114, 116-112 for Valuev and 114-114 even. After the boxing organization makes their final decision, which may take a week or two, there are a range of possibilities that could occur from the decision being reversed and Holyfield given the victory or possibly the two fighters having to meet for an immediate rematch.

Team Sauerland To Reconsider Its Plan to Offer Holyfield a Rematch

Team Sauerland will reconsider its plan to offer Evander Holyfield a rematch against WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev following Tommy Brooks´ outrageous remarks in the press. The coach of the 46-year-old boxing legend, who lost a close majority decision by the scores of 116-112, 115-114 and 114-114, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “I think it was just some home cooking for a promoter’s fighter. I think somebody was just greasing somebody’s palms.”

Holyfield Asks WBA To Overturn Decision

holy4234By Eric Thomas: For what it’s worth, heavyweight Evander Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 KOs) has, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, asked the World Boxing Association (WBA) sanctioning body to look at his decision loss to Nikolay Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs) last Saturday and change the outcome of the decision. However, the chances of Holyfield’s protest of having any success is probably very slim, with the best case scenario seeing Holyfield given an immediate rematch with the big giant at some time in the near future.

Will Holyfield Still Want to Fight Valuev If Nikolay Loses His Title?

holyfield321By Jim Dower: I have grave doubts about Evander Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 KOs) ever getting a chance at a rematch with World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs). As of now, Valuev has to face Ruslan Chagaev, the WBA champion in recess, in his next fight, but according to Valuev’s managing director at Saurland Event, Chris Meyer, “The close result makes a rematch a possibility.”

Holyfield Loses To Valuev, Given Raw Deal

holy532242By Jim Dower: Proving how hard it is to sometimes take a title from a champion, former four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield came up short last night in his attempt to capture a portion of the World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight title from champion Nikolay Valuev, losing by a 12-round majority decision in Switzerland in front of a large, 12,500, member Swiss crowd. Valuev, 35, despite appearing to lose a minimum of eight rounds, was given the decision by the three judges, who scored it 116-112, 115-114 and 114-114.

Valuev Decisions Holyfield – Boxing News

holy3343By Jason Kim: If you wanted to see a fight that would guarantee to disappoint and put you into a rage, then you could go no further than to watch WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev’s (50-1, 34 KOs) victory, a 12-round majority decision, over Evander Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 KOs) tonight at the Hallenstadion, in Zurich, Switzerland. The victory, one of the most controversial bouts that I’ve personally ever seen, allowed Valuev to hold onto his WBA title for a little while longer. Holyfield, 46, who was looking to add a 5th heavyweight title to his collection, got the bad end of a rotten decision. Holyfield dominated most of the fight, out-punching the younger, bigger, stronger Valuev in almost every round and landing the harder shots.

Valuev Defeats Holyfield, Both Look Terrible

By Aaron Klein: In one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen in my life, World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs) defeated former 4-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 KOs) by a controversial 12-round majority decision tonight at the Hallenstadion, in Zurich, Switzerland. The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 114-114 and 115-114. However, Valuev, 35, did little in the fight until the 8th round, appearing to lose all of the first seven rounds to the 46-year-old Holyfield.

Does Holyfield Need a Knockout To Defeat Valuev

holyfield5753By Dave Lahr: With the fight taking place in Switzerland, which is probably comparable to the fight being fought in Germany, does Evander Holyfield need a knockout to a get a win over the huge, mammoth-like WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev tonight? Barring a knockout by Holyfield, I really can’t see him getting a decision over there in Switzerland. Valuev, who fights all his bouts in Germany, will likely be considered the hometown fighter and because of that, it will take something really special, like either a knockout or multiple knockdowns, for Holyfield to get the victory. I wish it wasn’t so, but that’s what often happens when a fighter goes over there.

Holyfield-Valuev: Are We About To Witness The End of Evander?

holyfield31212By Dan Ambrose: Tomorrow night, we may be witnessing history and seeing Evander Holyfield’s (42-9-2, 27 KOs) last fight of his career should he lose to Nikolay Valuev (49-1, 34 KOs) in their 12-round WBA title bout in Switzerland. Holyfield, a ripe-looking 46, has probably reached what appears to be the end of his career and will be hitting a wall in what’s left of his ability against the gigantic, 7′ foot Valuev, who clearly flawed as a fighter, is more than good enough to pummel slower, smaller opponents when the opportunity presents itself.
