Arum going to work hard on putting together Mayweather-Pacquiao fight

By Chris Williams: With Manny Pacquiao possibly about to end his career in November, his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank is determined to try and put together a mega fight with undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. In an article by the Associated Press, Arum says “That’s the fight people want to see, and that’s the fight I’m going to do my darnedest to make happen. My first goal is to make that fight happen, but we’re not going to negotiate this thing in the press, because if we do, given the egos, it’s never going to happen.” That’s nice to hear. It’s too bad that it took this long for that to happen.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao will likely hinge on the drug testing issue

Image: Mayweather vs. Pacquiao will likely hinge on the drug testing issueBy Dan Ambrose: It’s sad to think that the mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao could depend on the random drug blood testing that Mayweather wants for the fight. At this point, there would be many other areas that could stop the fight from being made, such as the revenue split and the $10 million weight penalty that Pacquiao’s team asked to be part of the contract last time out when negotiating with Mayweather.

Pacquiao could face big criticism if he ends up fighting Cotto again

By Jim Dower: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KO’s) could end up fighting Miguel Cotto one more time if the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight doesn’t end up getting made. Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, is thinking of matching Pacquiao up with the winner of the Cotto vs. Yuri Foreman fight next month on June 5th at Yankee Stadium. Arum would also like to match Pacquiao up against Antonio Margarito, but that fight would hinge on whether or not Margarito could get his boxing license back in the United States, which may not happen soon. This would leave Pacquiao fighting the Cotto-Foreman winner for his final fight of his career in November of this year.

In an article at the The Telegraph,, Roach says “We are now going to have congressman Pacquiao knock out Floyd Mayweather.” That all sounds very well, but there’s a couple of problems getting in the way of that happening. First off, Pacquiao would have to likely give in to the unbeaten Mayweather’s demands about the Olympic style random blood testing that he wants before fighting him. And second, there’s the whole question about purse splits and who gets the bigger slice of the revenue.

Mitchell thinks Pacquiao should take the blood tests to fight Mayweather – News

By Eric Thomas: Lightweight contender Kevin Mitchell (31-0, 23 KO’s) thinks that Manny Pacquiao should agree to take the blood tests for a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., according to an article from Sportinglife. Mitchell, 25, who will be facing WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis on May 15th, has this to say about Pacquiao and the blood testing issue: “I think Mayweather’s got a fair point with the testing. If someone won’t take a drug test then there’s a problem there.” Pacquiao, the World Boxing Organization welterweight champion, is okay with taking limited blood testing for performance enhancing drugs up to a point. Pacquiao previously wanted the blood testing, which Mayweather asked to be taken randomly, to be stopped 24 days before his planned fight with Mayweather.
