Hatton: Brook is Golovkin’s toughest test

hatton

By Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton says IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is on the verge of facing his toughest test of his 10-year pro career this Saturday night on September 10 against Britain’s Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Hatton isn’t ruling out a victory for Brook in this fight, but he understands that it’s going to be awfully difficult for him to do that given how hard Golovkin punches. However, Hatton brings up the example of his own win over then 35-year-old Kostya Tszyu in 2005 as a case that Brook could pull off the upset.

There are some differences though between what Hatton accomplished and what Brook is trying to do against Triple G. Tszyu was at the end of his career at the time he fought Hatton. Tszyu had injury problems, inactivity issues, and he had to lose a lot of weight to get down to the 140lb limit.

Johnny Nelson: Brook should jump on Golovkin immediately

BOXING

By Scott Gilfoid: There are many different opinions in what game plan then bulked up welterweight Kell Brook should use for his fight against IBF/IBO/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for their fight this Saturday. Most of the boxing fans and writers believe that Brook should spoil to try and frustrate Golovkin to beat him by a decision.

Johnny Nelson of Sky Sports believes that the best way for Brook to win is to go right after Golovkin in round one and look to slug it out. This is a strategy that would seem to work in Golovkin’s favor, considering that he likes to brawl with his opponents.

Marquez: Brook has chance against Golovkin

BOXING

By Scott Gilfoid: Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez sees British welterweight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) as having a chance to pull off an upset this Saturday night on September 10 against IBF/IBO/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in their fight at the O2 Arena in London, England.

According to Marquez, he thinks Brook is a much better technical fighter than Golovkin, and he thinks that could be an area where he takes advantage. However, Marquez notes that Golovkin has the much more powerful punch than the 30-year-old Brook, and he sees that as an area where he could have issues in this fight.

Kell Brook: I don’t want to go back down to 147

brook864

By Allan Fox: IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) says he doesn’t want to go back down to the 147lb division after he’s found out how much better life is now that he can eat and hydrate himself for his upcoming September 10 fight this Saturday night against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs).

It’s good to know that Brook is finally making the decision not to come back down to welterweight, because the boxing world has been wondering if he would try and come back down or not to the weight class. If Brook does come back down to 147, he has unbeaten Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) waiting for him.

That would be a nightmarish fight for Brook if he has to boil down to the weight class because Spence is seen as the future of the division. To have to fight him at less than 100% would be a really hard fight for Brook, and he might not be able to handle a fighter in that class.

Hamed thinks Brook can beat Golovkin

hamed

By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA/WBC featherweight champion Naseem Hamed believes that the unbeaten welterweight Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) can pull off an upset this Saturday night against IBF/IBO/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) if he boxes him clever, uses his jab and avoids getting hit by his big shots. Hamed, 42, believes that Brook can get the job done on Saturday night in their fight at the O2 Arena in London, England.

I’m not sure that too many other boxing fans would agree with Hamed, because Brook is largely seen as the sacrificial lamb despite all the stuff that he and his fans are spouting. Brook will probably talk his way right up to the moment of the fight, and I don’t think it’s going to change the reality of the situation. Brook will probably still be talking after the fight when he tries to figure out what happened.

When fantasy bumps up against reality, it’s fantasy that loses out each time. That means that Brook’s pipe dream of him beating Golovkin will be a casualty this Saturday night when reality tears that dream apart. It’s okay to dream, but don’t let your trips get to you, as they say.

“I think Brook can box a very clever fight and use straight shots to get the victory,” said Hamed to skysports.com. “He needs to watch Sugar Ray Leonard against Marvin Hagler because that fight is the key to him winning this one. GGG is a great fighter but he hasn’t got the ability that Kell has – Brook is the far superior boxer.”

Kell Brook feels ready to pull off biggest upset in history

brook111

By Patrick McHugh: Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) believes he’s on the verge of pulling off one of the biggest upsets in boxing history when he meets unbeaten top pound-for-pound middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) this Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London, England. Brook is considered a long shot to win the fight, but he believes that he will win.

Brook has his mind made up that he’ll get the victory one way or another. He’s not ruling out scoring a knockout, but he understands that it’s going to hard for him to do that. Brook is mostly hoping to get a decision if possible by being clever inside the ring with the 34-year-old “Triple G” on Saturday in their fight on HBO World Championship Boxing and Sky Box Office pay-per-view.

This will be the 30-year-old Brook’s first huge mega-fight of his 12-year pro career, and he’s hoping that it’ll be just the start of many more huge events for him. It remains to be seen whether the Golovkin fight will lead to bigger ones for the British fighter Brook. It will of course depend largely on how he does against GGG. If Brook is able to beat Golovkin or at the minimum be competitive in losing, then he’ll be able to use the fight to get bigger ones against guys like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, Manny Pacquiao, Keith Thurman and Terence Crawford.

Froch expects Brook to give Golovkin problems

froch456667

By Scott Gilfoid: Well, I had a feeling former super middleweight champion Carl Froch would come out of the woodwork to chime in about this Saturday’s fight between unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and British fighter Kell Brook, and sure enough, Froch has decided to give his thoughts about the fight.

Froch says he sparred with Brook many years ago back before he fought Andre Dirrell in 2009, and according to him, Brook gave him problems during the session. As such, Froch has extrapolated from that sparring event to reason that Brook will cause Golovkin a lot of problems this Saturday, September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

I’m not sure that I agree with Froch’s opinion, but it looks like he’s got his mind made up that Brook will cause Golovkin problems because he caused him problems six years ago. It makes zero sense to me, but if that’s what Froch wants to believe, I’m good with that.

Kell Brook To Surprise A Few!

brook85

By Aeron Rees: On Saturday 10/9/16, we finally welcome one of the most eagerly anticipated bouts of the year, although that probably says more about the matchmaking in 2016 than it does the significance of the fight itself. That being said it is not often in boxing we get to see 2 unbeaten fighters square off at the highest level, with Kell Brook stepping up 2 weight divisions to take on Gennady Golovkin in what is now an exhibition match since the WBA will not sanction it to be for GGG’s belt. It is widely accepted that Kel Brook does not have a chance, this writer thinks Kell will surprise a few.

One criticism often leveled at Brook is his lack of decent names on his CV although he does hold wins over some decent fighters like Gavin, Senchenko, Lovemore N’Dou and Shawn Porter. Kell Brooks main problem is he was largely avoided throughout his career, it wasn’t until Kell was 30-0 that he started to gain the recognition he deserved in the States. Kell has excellent technical ability, is difficult to fight against and holds a decent amount of power with 25KO’s in 36 fights.

Golovkin: I’ll street fight Kell Brook!

golovkin287

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin says he’s ready for a “street fight” against Kell Brook this Saturday night in their fight on HBO and Sky Box Office pay-per-view. Golovkin says he wants the fight to be a “crazy” street fight, because he wants to go toe-to-toe with the 30-year-old Brook. Somehow I can’t picture Brook agreeing to fight Golovkin in a street fight. I don’t know why, but I keep seeing an image in my mind of Brook grabbing Golovkin in clinch after clinch and needing to be pulled off of him by the referee for 12 rounds. Brook isn’t the street type of person unfortunately. He’s more of a clinger when fighting good opposition. The guys that Brook has street fought in the past are fighters like Jo Jo Dan, Matthew Hatton and Kevin Bizier.

The thing is, if Brook agrees with Golovkin to fight him in a street fight, he’ll last all of one round at best. Brook is not made for a street fight with a puncher like Golovkin. Heck, Brook isn’t even made for a street fight against Shawn Porter. We saw how Brook developed eight arms in that fight with him holding Porter anytime he got close to him.

“I’m ready for 12 rounds and I’m ready for a street fight,” said Golovkin to IFL TV. “I like crazy fight. I like street fight.”
