Kell Brook wants to stay at welterweight

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-63

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) says he’s now thinking that he’ll remain in the 147lb division rather than moving up to 154 to campaign in the junior middleweight division. According to Brook, his weight is under control, and believes he can get back down to 147. He’s hoping that by staying at 147, he can face the likes of Amir Khan, Manny Pacquiao or Danny Garcia. The fights against Pacquiao and Garcia could be unification matches.

Gilfoid isn’t surprised at all that Brook isn’t moving up to the 154lb division, because there are too many beasts in that division that would likely wreck him in the same way that IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) did in their fight on September 10 two months ago at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

By Eric Baldwin: Manny Pacquiao says he liked the recent fight between welterweight Kell brook and IBF/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin last September. Pacquiao said that Golovkin was simply too strong for Brook.

Unlike some of the other fighters that are saying that Golovkin should move up in weight, Pacquiao says it’s up to Golovkin if he wants to move up to light heavyweight to fight bigger guys.

Errol Spence Jr. vs. Jeff Horn possible for IBF title

spence

By Scott Gilfoid: If IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook decides to vacate his title, #1 IBF Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) and #2 IBF Jeff Horn (15-0-1, 10 KOs) will reportedly wind up fighting for the vacant IBF 147lb title. The two fighters are waiting to find out what Brook’s decision will be in regards to whether he’ll hold onto his title or not.

The International Boxing Federation recently gave Brook a 60-day medical extension this week for him to recover from eye surgery from his broken eye socket he suffered in his 5th round knockout loss to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin last September.

Brook said he was going to move up to 154 after that fight to start campaigning as a 154lb contender, but he now appears to be dragging his heels about the issue for some reason. Could it be that Brook realizes how tough he might have it if he got in there with the wolves in the 154lb division?

Kell Brook given 60-day medical extension

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-58

By Scott Gilfoid: The International Boxing Federation Chairman Lindsey E. Tucker has reportedly given IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) a 60-day medical extension due to his broken right eye socket that he suffered in his 5th round TKO loss to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 Kos) last month on September 10 in London, England.

The IBF was going to order Brook to start negotiations for a fight against his #1 IBF mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) for a fight that would likely take place in early 2017. However, with the IBF giving the 30-year-old Brook a 60-day extension, it buys him time before he needs to make a decision whether to take on the talented 26-year-old Spence or vacate and go in another direction.

Will Kell Brook duck Errol Spence Jr. fight?

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-40

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) has been talking about wanting to fight everybody lately but the guy that he’s supposed to be facing in #1 IBF mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs).

The International Boxing Federation is supposed to be giving Brook and Spence their marching orders on October 26th. It’ll be interesting to see if the IBF followed through with that or if they’re going to wait awhile for Brook to finish licking his wounds from his 5th round knockout loss to the talented wrecking machine Gennady “GGG” Golovkin last September.

Kell Brook wants Amir Khan in 2017

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-36

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook and Amir Khan are both coming off of stoppage losses in 2016, but they could wind up facing each other in 2017 if the fight can get negotiated. Brook, 30, wants Khan to commit to fighting him next year. Khan seems to be open to the idea of finally facing Brook, but he wants it to take place in the welterweight division.

Brook recently moved up to middleweight in a failed attempt to defeat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Brook landed some shots here and there, but he was only competitive for one round in the fight. Brook was staggered in the 1st, and running in rounds 3 through 5.

Khan wants Danny Garcia and Kell Brook

1-alvarez-canelo-khan (10)

By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) plans on returning to the ring in the summer of 2017, hopefully against WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia or possibly Kell Brook. The 29-year-old Khan says he’s down to the final five fights of his career, as he plans on retiring from boxing after that. Khan wants to get the most out of the remaining fights of his career, and he feels it’s time to take on Garcia and Brook. It’s likely going to be a fight against just one of them though, because if/when Khan gets knocked out again, it’ll remove the possibility of fighting the other fighter.

Khan is will need time to get his surgically repaired right hand ready for his next fight. This is the reason for the delay in him getting back inside the ring. Khan has become a part time fighter in the last couple of years, as he’s been traveling around the world and not really focusing on his boxing career.

Britain and their Great champions?

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-43

By Gav Duthie: At one point earlier this year the UK celebrated having 14 world champions at the same time making it arguably the best boxing country pound for pound. Within the last month 3 have fallen in Anthony Crolla (To Jorge Linares), Liam Smith who lost to Canelo and Tyson Fury who relinquished his WBA and WBO titles due to depression and allegations of drug taking, both performance enhancing and recreational. Recently one of the UK’s best in Carl Frampton said that although the number of champions were great he didn’t feel they were all true champions. This piece discusses the 11 world champions who remain and how long they might be champions for.

Anthony Joshua 17-0 (17)

AJ is the current IBF champion but its possible that the WBA and WBO titles could be on the line if he faces Wladimir Klitschko on December 10. Whether he wins or not depends on at what stage of his career you feel The 40 year old Wlad is now. For me Wlad was confused against Fury after finally facing someone taller, with a longer reach and he couldn’t dictate the pace. Joshua will come to fight and be easier to hit. I don’t think Wlad is finished just yet so I pick him to knock Joshua out. If the fight doesn’t come off he will likely defend against someone like Bermaine Stiverne and keep his title a bit longer.

Spence waiting on Kell Brook

spence677

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) is waiting for IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook’s management to decide whether he’s going to start negotiating for a fight between them or vacate his IBF 147lb title. Spence says he’s hearing things about Brook talking about giving up his IBF title so that he can fight the likes of Amir Khan or Saul Canelo Alvarez.

Spence wants Brook to make a decision already so that he can fight for the IBF title in January 2017. Spence has wanted to fight Brook for a long, long time. Spence doesn’t buy into Brook’s excuses about being too heavy for the welterweight division, and using that as excuse should he lose to him.
