Kell Brook vs. Frankie Gavin a possibility for May 30

gavinBy Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says that #5 IBF, #12 WBA, #14 WBC Frankie Gavin (22-1, 13 KOs) is a possibility as an opponent for IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (34-0, 23 KOs) for his next fight on May 30th at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Hearn is trying to put together a fight between Gavin and former two division world champ Tim Bradley in an IBF 147lb eliminator bout next. But if that fight doesn’t take place, Hearn says that Gavin is certainly a possibility for Brook’s next fight.

Khan: Algieri fight isn’t confirmed yet; Brook still needs to prove himself

khan200By Scott Gilfoid: Former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (30-3, 19 KOs) says his May 30th fight against former WBO 140 pound champion Chris Algieri (20-1, 8 KOs) still has yet to be confirmed, according to Fighthype.com.

Khan, 28, doesn’t understand the huge amount of criticism he’s received from boxing fans ever since he made the news announcement that he’d be facing the 31-year-old Algieri next rather than someone arguably better with better power than Algieri has.

At the end of the day, Khan doesn’t make his fights. That job is done by his adviser. He offers suggestions for opponents, but it’s his management that make the ultimate decision.

Kell Brook; don’t pull an ‘Amir Khan’!

brook6By B.G.B: Boxing fans have just about finished rubbing their eyes after Amir Khan’s Thursday night announcement. Yes, it has been confirmed that Khan will face former light-welter weight world champion Chris Algieri on May 30th. Algieri was badly beaten by Manny Pacquiao in November.

Although a former light welter weight champion, Algieri can’t really be labelled as the opponent Khan promised to fight fans after his impressive display defeating Devon Alexander. Unfortunately for them (us), broken promises are becoming all too familiar when it comes to Amir Khan.

Khan thinks Brook is just trying to get a cash out fight against him

brook101By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC welterweight contender Amir Khan (30-3, 19 KOs) thinks that the only reason why IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (34-0, 23 KOs) has been pushing so hard for a fight against him is because he’s looking to cash out before he gets beaten by one of the other welterweight contenders.

Khan thinks that’s the only reason why the 28-year-old Brook seems to desperate to fight him now that he recently beaten Jo Jo Dan, who Khan doesn’t seem to be too impressed with.

Brook doesn’t understand why Khan is fighting Algieri instead of him

khan774By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook doesn’t understand the logic of Amir Khan choosing former WBO light welterweight champion Chris Algieri to fight on May 30th rather than someone like himself, who could promise that the 28-year-old Khan would receive a huge payday of possibly as much as $5 million.

Khan shook up the boxing world last Thursday when he made the announcement to fight the 5’10” Algieri rather than a bigger name that could bring something to the table in terms of money and fan interest.

Khan says that he does plan on fighting Brook either this year or in 2016, but he wants to go in different path right now towards what he hopes will be a title fight against WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr or WBO 147 pound champion Manny Pacquiao. Khan obviously doesn’t pick out his own opponents himself.

Kell Brook possible for May 30th card at O2 Arena, London, UK

brook5667By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (34-0, 23 KOs) could be added to the May 30th undercard of the Kevin Mitchell vs. Jorge Linares fight card at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn wants to bring back Brook for the May 30th card despite the fact that he just finished fighting Jo Jo Dan on March 28th.

That means that Brook and whoever his opponent would be would have less than two months to prepare for the fight. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that we’re probably going to be talking about an even lesser opponent than Brook’s last fight against Jo Jo Dan.

Hearn thinks Khan will fight Algieri on May 30th

khan5899By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (30-3, 19 KOs) still doesn’t have an opponent picked out for his next fight on May 30th, but Eddie Hearn, the promoter for IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, believes it’s going to be the recently defeated Chris Algieri.

Hearn doesn’t believe it’s going to be the likes of Miguel Cotto, Keith Thurman or Andrien Broner, three of the names that has been mentioned as potential opponents for Khan, according to Fightnews.com. Hearn would like nothing better than to see Khan fight Brook on June 13th at Wembley Stadium in London, UK, but Khan says that’s a date that won’t work for him due to Ramadan.
