Should Duddy take the Foreman fight next?

Image: Should Duddy take the Foreman fight next?By Jason Kim: Irish Middleweight contender John Duddy (29-2, 18 KO’s) was easily beaten by fellow Top Rank fighter Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision on June 26th at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. Duddy, 31, took a beating in the fight and was badly marked up around his eyes after the bout. It was a grueling fight in which Duddy really wasn’t competitive for the most part. After the fight, Duddy’s promoter Bob Arum, perhaps to cheer Duddy up, said this: “As soon as he [Duddy] recovers and as soon as Yuri’s [Foreman] knee heals, we’re going to sell out Madison Square Garden next year.”

Foreman (28-1, 8 KO’s) was defeated by Miguel Cotto in a 9th round TKO earlier this month on June 5th at Yankee Stadium.

What could Duddy have done to beat Chavez?

Image: What could Duddy have done to beat Chavez?By Jim Dower: John Duddy (29-2, 18 KO’s) gave a good account of himself on Saturday night in his 12 round decision loss to unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) in San Antonio, Texas. Duddy, 31, has nothing to be ashamed of because he fought remarkably well during the first half of the fight and if he could have maintained the high pace of the fight then he would have had an excellent chance of beating Chavez Jr.

Chavez Jr. says “I am going to be a world champion” after beating Duddy

Image: Chavez Jr. says “I am going to be a world champion” after beating DuddyBy Dan Ambrose: New WBC Silver middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) seems to be getting a little ahead of himself after beating fringe middleweight contender John Duddy (29-2, 18 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. Chavez Jr. hurt the 31-year-old Duddy a number of times in their fight, causing him to wobble in the 8th, 9th and 11th round from big right hands and left hooks. Chavez Jr. showed good power, but didn’t look all that fast, didn’t move very well and showed really poor defense.

Chavez dominates Duddy in one-sided decision

Image: Chavez dominates Duddy in one-sided decisionBy Chris Williams: Unbeaten Julio Cesar Chavez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) stayed undefeated on Saturday night, easily defeating John Duddy (29-2, 18 KO’s) by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision to win the WBC Silver middleweight title at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. The final judges’ scores were 120-108, 116-112 and 117-111, all for the 24-year-old Chavez. I had Chavez easily the winning the fight by 11 rounds to 1. Duddy looked horrible throughout. Chavez didn’t look all that great either, but good enough to beat a fighter like Duddy. Chavez once again proves that he can beat a B level fighter.

Roach thinks Chavez Jr. will knock Duddy out

Image: Roach thinks Chavez Jr. will knock Duddy outBy Chris Williams: For what it’s worth, trainer Freddie Roach thinks that his new unbeaten fighter Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) will knock John Duddy (29-1, 18 KO’s) out tonight in their 12 round fight for the obscure WBC Silver title at the Alamodome, in San Antonio, Texas. Even if Chavez does stop Duddy, which I highly doubt, what difference does it make?

Is Chavez-Duddy and Barrera-De Jesus worth $39.95?

Image: Is Chavez-Duddy and Barrera-De Jesus worth $39.95?Photo: Rafael Soto/Top Rank – By Chris Williams: I really love boxing and I am all for the fighters getting a good payday, but I’m not exactly eager about the thought of paying $39.95 to watch Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight John Duddy and Marco Antonio Barrera go at it with Adailton De Jesus. I like good boxing, competitive fights and seeing huge stars when I’m paying for a fight card. However, I don’t see any fight on the this Saturday’s Latin Fury 15 card that would make me want to pay to watch it. Chavez and Duddy are the main even, which is really hard for me to believe, because I don’t see either of them as 1st tier fighters.
