Roach: We’ve got to antagonize Mayweather to get him to negotiate

roach6777By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says that he believes that he and his fighter Manny Pacquiao needs to antagonize WBA/WBC 147 pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr in order to get him to come to the negotiating table to face the 36-year-old Pacquiao. Roach says he told Pacquiao to keep talking about Mayweather because he believes that it’ll eventually lead to a fight against him.

It’s unknown if Roach’s strategy will work because it seems too transparent, and it reeks of desperation on his and Pacquiao’s part. Simply bringing up Mayweather’s name 24/7 very could have the opposite effect of sending Mayweather in the opposite direction, because it makes Pacquiao and Roach seem desperate in the eyes of some boxing fans.

Roach thinks Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will happen in 2015

pac0000By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks WBO 147lb champion Manny Pacquiao’s win over little known Chris Algieri (20-1, 8 KOs) on November 22nd was a big enough victory to get Pacquiao a big money fight against WBA/WBC 147 pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs).

Roach thinks that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum will be able to set the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight up in 2015 despite the fact that Mayweather has said repeatedly that he won’t fight Pacquiao has Juan Manuel Marquez problems, and that he wouldn’t fight him until he’s clear of Arum.

Pacquiao/Algieri: Freddie Roach Interview

roach564How was it training in the Philippines?

FREDDIE ROACH: It went really well. We had a great camp. Manny really buckled down the whole training camp and we are really ready for this fight.

Manny has mentioned this camp has been like old times…

FREDDIE ROACH: We brought back a lot of the old workout routines and with Justin Fortune, his old strength coach, being back on board. We went to the heavy bag a lot with really hard work. Not too much mitts where it is flashier – we got more strength. We wanted to get that fire back and start knocking people out again. It’s an old school approach. We did a lot of strength work, and heavy bag work and he is punching better than ever. He’s coming to a weight that is better for him – instead of fighting at 147 he’s fighting at 144. We are going to have our first knockout in a while.

Final take on Pacquiao Algieri

by Sam: In my earlier article I wrote how this fight would pan out in my opinion from a neutral fight fan’s point of view. This article will be more about my gut feeling and I’ll explain why I feel the way I do.

To win this fight, Algieri will have to be at his best and fight a perfect fight. First of all from all the coverage I’ve seen on this fight, many experts have said that Manny will face adversity in this bout. I can see that happening. Some rounds may go Algieri’s way. He may be able to dominate Pacquiao with the help of his physical attributes for some rounds and that will frustrate Manny and he will get reckless. I’m not buying that idea. I’ll explain in detail why.

Roach concerned with Pacquiao’s huge entourage

roach777By Jim Dower: Trainer Freddie Roach was concerned with his fighter Manny Pacquiao’s huge entourage that boarded the plan this week to fly over to Macau, China to watch him fight Chris Algieri at the Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena.

Roach feels that many of the members of Pacquiao’s entourage are guys that he doesn’t know by name. Roach thinks that this large group of people could ultimately be a distraction for Pacquiao as he tries to relax and get ready for his tough title defense against Algieri.

Roach says he spoke to Pacquiao about his views about the entourage. The large group of people took two planes, and there were 380 people on those planes. Some of the people were part of Team Pacquiao. It’s unclear just how many of the members of the entourage are simply there to support him without having an official capacity.

How will Pacquiao-Algieri pan out

pac553By Sam: Everyone has a chance to win any particular boxing match, but, if ring experience and IQ are considered, you can’t in any way say that Chris Algieri can beat Manny Pacquiao this Saturday.

You may have a gut feeling that Chris Algieri may win or you may want him to win because he is an underdog, but, if you have enough knowledge in boxing you will know that it is just restricted to that.

Roach predicts 1st round knockout win for Pacquiao over Algieri

roach665By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach has been making knockout predictions for his fighter Manny Pacquiao for many years now, and his fight against Chris Algieri this Saturday night will be no exception.

Roach sees Pacquiao stopping the 30-year-old Algieri in the 1st round when the two fighters get inside the ring this Saturday night, November 22nd, in Macau, China. Pacquiao hasn’t scored a knockout over an opponent since his 12th round stoppage win over Miguel Cotto in 2009. Even in that fight, you can make an argument that the fight should have been allowed to continue due to Cotto still fighting back.

Algieri not worried about Roach’s trash talking

algieri79999By Chris Williams: Unbeaten challenger Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) isn’t too concerned with all the trash talking that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has been making recently as they head in to the November 22nd fight in Macao, China.

Roach has talked trash since day one, but recently he’s increased his trash talking to another level in taking more verbal shots at the 30-year-old Algieri. You can’t blame Roach for wanting to talk more trash at this point in the game, because he’s got to be generally concerned about his aging 35-year-old fighter Pacquiao losing to Algieri.

Roach gives Khan a good chance of beating Mayweather

roach45By Chris Williams: Amir Khan’s former trainer Freddie Roach thinks he has a good chance of beating WBA/WBC 147 pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) next year in May if Khan gets selected for the fight.

Roach likes Khan’s hand speed and fighting style, as he believes he’s got the kind of style that will give Mayweather problems if the two of them face each other.

Khan is fighting former two-time world champion Devon Alexander (26-2, 14 KOs) on December 13th in a fight that many boxing fans believe will lead to Khan getting a title shot against Mayweather if he comes out victorious.

Roach: Pacquiao has had one of his best camps ever

roach212By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) is putting on the finishing touches for his training camp to get ready for his November 22nd fight against Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) in their catch-weight fight at 144 pounds at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, in Macao S.A.R., China.

Roach is saying that this is one of the best training camps the 35-year-old Pacquiao has had before in his many years of training the Filipino star. Roach feels that Pacquiao has been doing everything that he’s asked for, and has done well against the three sparring partners Viktor Postol, Mike Jones and Stan Martyniouk that he brought along with him to the Philippines to help Pacquiao get ready.
