Does Holyfield Need a Knockout To Defeat Valuev

holyfield5753By Dave Lahr: With the fight taking place in Switzerland, which is probably comparable to the fight being fought in Germany, does Evander Holyfield need a knockout to a get a win over the huge, mammoth-like WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev tonight? Barring a knockout by Holyfield, I really can’t see him getting a decision over there in Switzerland. Valuev, who fights all his bouts in Germany, will likely be considered the hometown fighter and because of that, it will take something really special, like either a knockout or multiple knockdowns, for Holyfield to get the victory. I wish it wasn’t so, but that’s what often happens when a fighter goes over there.

Holyfield-Valuev: Are We About To Witness The End of Evander?

holyfield31212By Dan Ambrose: Tomorrow night, we may be witnessing history and seeing Evander Holyfield’s (42-9-2, 27 KOs) last fight of his career should he lose to Nikolay Valuev (49-1, 34 KOs) in their 12-round WBA title bout in Switzerland. Holyfield, a ripe-looking 46, has probably reached what appears to be the end of his career and will be hitting a wall in what’s left of his ability against the gigantic, 7′ foot Valuev, who clearly flawed as a fighter, is more than good enough to pummel slower, smaller opponents when the opportunity presents itself.

Does Holyfield Need To Be Saved From Himself?

holy32By Chris Williams: Some fighters just don’t know when to quit and call it a day. Often, we the boxing public, don’t see it because it often effects obscure fighters that the public isn’t aware of. However, Holyfield, 46, is a textbook case of a fighter that has over-stayed his visit in the sport and really needs to get a clue and retire. Naturally, I have nothing against a fighter wanting to provide for themselves and better their situation, because after all, it’s their life.

Will Holyfield Retire If He Loses To Valuev?

holyinterviewBy William Mackay: Evander Holyfield (42-9-2, 27 KOs) doesn’t know the word quit, but after Saturday night, he might want to add it to his vocabulary, because in facing seven foot Nikolay Valuev (49-1, 34 KOs), he’ll be at a tremendous disadvantage and will almost surely lose the fight. For those who are keeping score, this will be Holyfield’s fifth heavyweight title, if he should win the fight, a number that would further enhance his status among boxing fans.

Holyfield-Valuev Analysis

valuev444454By Erik Schmidt: Four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (42-9-2, 27 KOs) will be trying to get an unheard of 5th heavyweight title when he meets up with World Boxing Association (WBA) champion
Nikolay Valuev (49-1, 34 KOs) this Saturday night at the Hallenstadion, in Zurich, Switzerland. For Holyfield, now 46, it’s been a year since he last saw action, losing to then WBO heavyweight champion Sultan Ibagimov by a one-sided 12-round unanimous decision in Moscow, Russia. For that reason among many, it seems especially curious why Holyfield would be getting another shot at a title considering that he’s not fought once in the past year.
