By Eric Thomas: In a night of early knockouts due to poor matchmaking, featherweight Yuriorkis Gamboa (14-0, 12 KOs) destroyed destroyed Walter Estrada (35-9, 24 KOs) seconds into the fight, hitting him with a flurry of power shots ending with a big right hand to send him down for the count. It was no surprise, because Estrada had a poor record going into the fight and had been knocked out early in two of his last seven fights. In the end, he was simply too slow for Gamboa and looked as if he was fighting in slow motion next to the speedy Gamboa.

Lara Stops Aguiar In 1st Round TKO

erislandy4335By Manuel Perez: Undefeated light middleweight prospect Erislandy Lara (3-0, 2 KOs) stopped a badly over-matched Rodrigo Aguiar (5-4, 3 KOs) in the 1st round of a scheduled four-round bout on Friday night at the Buffalo Bill’s Star Arena, in Primm, Nevada. Lara, 25, landed a nice left-right combination at the end of the 1st round, knocking Aguiar down on his backside. Aguiar then staggered to his feet but referee Joe Cortez put a stop to the bout at 2:59 of the 1st.

“We had a great preparation, everything went according to plans”, stated “El Ciclon” Gamboa. “Of course, it is hard to work over Christmas and New Year’s but I love what I’m doing and I know that I have to make certain sacrifices to become champion of the world.”

Erislandy Lara Annihilates Alekseevs

lara562356.jpgBy Erik Schmidt: Undefeated middleweight prospect Erislandy Lara (2-0, 1 KOs) obliterated his opponent Denis Alekseevs (5-22-2, 4 KOs) in the 1st round of a scheduled 4-round bout on Friday night at the , Kugelbake Halle, Cuxhaven, in Niedersachsen, Germany, knocking him down three times in the process. Lara, only 25, a former Cuban National champion and world champion, was all over his over-matched opponent in the first round, hitting him at will with uppercuts and hooks to the head. Within a matter of seconds, Alekseevs was knocked down with a powerful left to the head.

He got up, covering up with both hands glued to his head, and began taking big windmill shots from Lara. After a second, Lara was warned for throwing a rabbit punch by referee. As soon as the action resumed, he quickly sent Alekseevs down for the second time, this time with a right hook to the head.
