By Jeff Aranow: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is hoping to make quick work of Polish fighter Andrzej Wawrzyk in their fight on February 25 so that he can return to the ring on April 8 to fight WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (22-0, 18 KOs) in a unification fight.

Wilder (37-0, 36 KOs) says that if he doesn’t suffer any other hand injuries or any other injuries in his fight against the 6’5” Wawrzyk (33-1, 19 KOs), then he’ll be able to face the 25-year-old Parker for his WBO title in a unification fight.

Salido waiting for rematch against Francisco Vargas

Image: Salido waiting for rematch against Francisco Vargas

By Jeff Aranow: Earlier this week, Orlando Salido (43-13-4, 30 KOs) reportedly turned down a rematch against WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko. Salido, 36, instead wants a rematch against WBC super featherweight champion Francisco Vargas (23-0-2, 17 KOs) this year. Vargas has a title defense scheduled for January 28 against #7 WBC Miguel Berchelt (30-1, 27 KOs) at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

Salido and the 32-year-old Vargas fought to a controversial 12 ound draw last June at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Salido won the fight in the eyes of many boxing fans, but the judges scored it 115-113 for Vargas, and 114-114, 114-114 even.

Hearn predicts painful night for Klitschko against Joshua

Image: Hearn predicts painful night for Klitschko against Joshua

By Scott Gilfoid: Barry Hearn of Matchroom Sport sees the 41-year-old Wladimir Klitschko having a painful night when he faces IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on April 29 at Wembley Stadium.

Wladimir is the underdog for the Joshua fight. Wladimir’s performance against Tyson Fury in losing to him in 2015 is the main reason why boxing odds-makers sees him as not having much of a chance against the 27-year-old Joshua. Wladimir looked old against Fury, and he couldn’t pull the trigger on his power punches.

Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder: Heavyweight Collision Course

Image: Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder: Heavyweight Collision Course

By Joseph Hirsch: The heavyweight division is not stacked right now, certainly not as thick with talent as some of the lighter weight classes. Alexander Povetkin’s potential matchup with Deontay “the Bronze Bomber” Wilder was scratched due to a failed drug test; Tyson Fury’s rematch with Wladimir Klitschko was also cancelled for a failed drug test (among other issues). The first match between Fury and Klitschko, while an upset in Fury’s favor, wasn’t much to write home about. Despite these drawbacks though, there is still enough going on in the division to excite the diehard fan.

Luis “King Kong” Ortiz is perhaps the best of the three men in the division not named Klitschko (the other two being Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder), but since Ortiz is a southpaw with a granite chin who is murder on the inside, you can expect the management teams of both Wilder and Joshua to swerve him for as long as possible.

Dominic Breazeale vs. Artur Szpilka on Wilder-Wawrzyk card

By Scott Gilfoid: Former heavyweight title challenger Dominic Breazeale (17-1, 15 KOs) will be fighting Artur Szpilka (20-2, 15 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round fight on the undercard of the heavyweight title clash between WBC champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder and Andrzej Wawrzyk on February 25 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

#7 WBC Szpilka is coming off of a bad 9th round knockout loss to Wilder from last January at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Szpilka was knocked clean out by a right hand from Wilder in the 9th. It was a devastating knockout loss for the 27-year-old Szpilka.

Is it time for Deontay to stand up?

Image: Is it time for Deontay to stand up?

By Sam Holderness: On paper, Deontay Wilder is an American Dream. Why is a 6ft7inches American that holds a portion of the illustrious heavyweight championship not a box office sensation? The Alabama fighter boast a perfect 37/0/0 record with 36 of them by knockout, so what’s missing?

Anyone who is reading is screaming the same thing, a name. Skim through the Bronze Bombers record and you will notice a drastic lack of talent. I appreciate this is not a new statement and it doesn’t take a scholar of the sport to say that Andrzej Warrzyk is an over-matched opponent (being stopped already by twice destined to fight Wilder, Alexander Povetkin) but circumstances mean we will let this one go.

Wilder: Klitschko can’t be counted out in Joshua fight

Image: Wilder: Klitschko can’t be counted out in Joshua fight

By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is still giving Wladimir Klitschko a shot at beating IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in their fight on April 29 despite his feelings that father time is beating on the door of the aging 40-year-old Ukrainian heavyweight.

Deontay openly admits that he wants the younger lion Joshua to win the fight thought, considering that a fight between the two will make a heck of a lot of green stuff. Wilder likes the idea him matching a fighter like Joshua, who will come to slug with him, because he wants to trade shots with him and land some right hands on his chin to see if he remains standing.

Dillian Whyte vs. Bermane Stiverne possible, winner faces Wilder

Image: Dillian Whyte vs. Bermane Stiverne possible, winner faces Wilder

By Scott Gilfoid: With Alexander Povetkin looking like he’s out of the running for a title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, #2 WBC Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 KOs) could wind up facing #10 WBC Dillian Whyte (20-1, 15 KOs) in a WBC heavyweight eliminator match. This is what the 28-year-old Whyte is saying on his social media site.

If Whyte is going to be the one fighting in an eliminator, he would be leapfrogging over a lot of higher ranked contenders in the World Boxing Council’s rankings in order for him to get that title shot. Would be that fair? Whoever said boxing was fair? The sport isn’t conducted like normal sports where you have teams that fight their way to the top by beating good teams.

Ny Allan Fox: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is said to be fighting #12 WBC contender Andrzej Wawrzyk on February 25 in his hometown in the Legacy Arena Birmingham, Alabama. It’s not official yet, but that’s the fight the 31-year-old Wilder is reportedly fighting next. This is a good fight for Wilder.

It’ll give him some good practice to get ready for a possible unification fight against the 6’6” IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua or the 6’6” Wladimir Klitschko in 2017.
