By Matt Stein: Heavyweight contender David Tua (51-3-1, 43 KO’s) continues with his incredibly slow climb to a heavyweight title shot by fighting 39-year-old Monte Barrett on Saturday night at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 37-year-old Tua’s obscure WBO Asia Pacific and WBO Oriental heavyweight titles will be on the line for this fight.
Rahman wants rematch with Tua, says he’ll knock him out this time
By Matt Stein: Former WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman (47-7-2, 38 KO’s) would like nothing better than to fight a rematch with David Tua (51-3-1, 43 KO’s), whom he has fought twice already, once in 1998 and another time in 2003. Tua knocked Rahman out in the 10th round in 1998, and then fought to a 12 round draw with Tua in March 2003.
Tua: If I can’t beat Barrett, then I won’t get a title shot
By Dan Ambrose: Former heavyweight title challenger David Tua (51-3-1, 43 KO’s) realizes that he has to get by 39-year-old journeyman fighter Monte Barrett (34-9, 20 KO’s) later on this month on July 17th at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. If Tua, 37, wants to get a shot against IBF/WBo heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, then Tua has to beat Barrett and not trip up and get decisioned.
Will we be seeing Tua vs. Arreola soon?
By Dan Ambrose: Heavyweight contender David Tua (51-3-1, 43 KO’s) has a July 17th 10-round bout coming up against Monte Barrett (34-9, 20 KO’s) at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. If Tua, 37, can get by Barrett, which is highly probable given Barrett’s problems in the past when taking on big punchers, then Tua could be looking at an interesting bout against the big 6’4” Chris Arreola (28-2, 25 KO’s) in the near future.
Tua vs. Barrett on 7/17: Is David running out of time to win a world title?
By Jim Dower: Now 37-years-old, heavyweight contender David Tua (51-3-1, 43 KO’s) is 10 years removed from the first and only time he challenged for a world title when he lost a one-sided 12 round decision to then IBF/WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis in November 2000. Tua hasn’t done much since then, beating mostly 2nd tier opposition and not progressing with his career. Back then, Tua was a young 27-year-old, who many boxing fans compared to Mike Tyson.
Tua-Barrett on July 17th
By Jim Dower: Heavyweight contender David Tua (51-3-1, 43 KO’s) will be stepping up the quality of his opposition ever so slightly on July 17th when he faces former heavyweight contender Monte Barrett (34-9, 20 KO’s) at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It’s been ages since the 37-year-old Tua has faced a live body – some seven years since his fight with Hasim Rahman in 2003. Barrett, while not a 1st tier heavyweight anymore, will still be a step up for Tua from what he’s been facing in the seven years.

Tua decisions Ahunanya, fails to impress
By Jim Dower: In a battle of aging heavyweights, David Tua (51-3-1, 43 KO’s) won a boring unimpressive 12 round unanimous decision against Friday Ahunanya (24-6-3, 13 KO’s) on Wednesday night at the Trusts Stadium, in Auckland, New Zealand. The final judges’ scores were 119-109, 117-111 and 120-108. Tua, 37, stalked Ahunanya around the ring all night long trying to land a big punch. However, Ahunanya stayed on the constant move, changing directions constantly to keep Tua guessing and unable to land his big punches.
David Tua – Is he a future champion?
