By Nate Anderson: In one of the worse fights I’ve seen in awhile, BBBofC British heavyweight champion Danny Williams (41-7, 31 KOs) defeated John McDermott (25-5, 16 KOs) by a 12-round split decision on Saturday night at the Crowtree Leisure Centre, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. The final judges’ scores were 116-111, 116-111 for Williams and 113-115 for McDermott. I personally had Williams winning eight rounds to three with one round even.

Fury Stops Ellis: Is Tyson Ready for Rogan, Skelton or Williams?
By William Mackay: Unbeaten heavyweight Tyson Fury (5-0, 5 KOs) kept his perfect knockout record intact with a quick 1st round knockout over British journeyman Mathew Ellis (20-7, 9 KOs), knocking him out in 48 seconds of the 1st round. Ellis, 35, had fancied his chances against the 20-year-old Fury before the bout, saying that Fury was biting off more than he can chew by fighting him at this early point of his boxing career. However, the 6’7” Fury quickly proved him wrong by drilling Ellis with a big right hand in the opening seconds of the bout and planting him on the canvas.
Too ‘Old’ To Box – Rogan, Williams, Marquez, Mosley
By Zubair Ali: Recent fights have had me thinking that the definition of an ‘old’ fighter needs revising. A fighter in his 30’s no longer seems to be all that old. Rob Norton at 37 handed David Dolan the second defeat of his career for the British cruiserweight title in what proved to be a thrilling and tight affair. Martin Rogan, 37 and Matt Skelton, 42 contested the Commonwealth heavyweight title in a bruising encounter in which Rogan upset the odds with an 11th round stoppage and continued his fairytale story.

Sosnowski Stops Williams In 8th Round! – Latest Boxing News
By Nate Anderson: Polish heavyweight Albert Sosnowski (44-2, 27 KOs) shockingly stopped 35 year-old Danny Williams (40-7, 31 KOs) in the 8th round of a scheduled 10-round bout on Saturday night at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, in London. The ending came suddenly, when Sosnowski dropped Williams with a powerful left hook at the start of the 8th round. It was a perfect punch, thrown with a lot of power, almost guaranteeing that Williams would find it virtually impossible to make out of the remainder of the round given the amount of time left in the round.
Williams groggily got to his feet and was met with a storm of punches from Sosnowski, who staggered Williams with a big left-right combination, causing for referee Richard James Davies to step in between them and halt the fight at 1:17 of the 8th round.
Following the fight, Sosnowski said “When I fight with good boxers, my skills are good but when I fight with bad ones, I don’t do as well.”
Danny Williams – Never Say Die
By Abbas Dadhiwala: After having watched Danny Williams last fight against Big John McDermott, I wasn’t at all surprised that Danny got the decision from the judges. Although it was a very close call, despite being on the end of very dubious refereeing and having been deducted three points, he somehow came through this – like he has been coming through with a never say die attitude throughout his career.
Williams Defeats McDermott By Majority Decision
By Nate Anderson: Despite being penalized on three separate occasions in the final two rounds, British heavyweight Danny Williams (40-6, 31 KOs) was able to defeat John McDermott (25-4, 16 KOs) by a 12-round majority decision to win the BBBofC British heavyweight title last night at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Dagenham, in Essex. The final judges’ scores were 114-111, 114-113 and 113-113. I personally had Williams winning by 114-111, even with the three penalizations, which I felt was way out of line for the minor things that Williams was doing in the fight.
The timing of the fouls that were called – two in the 11th and one in the 12th – seemed somewhat strange, as it seemed to coincide with McDermott being hopelessly behind in the right. Without the points taken away from Williams, this was a pretty much one-sided fight with the pudgy-looking McDermott only appearing to win the 5th round. After the 5th, McDermott was exhausted, having blown his load and unable to muster anything other than feeble jabs for the rest of the fight.
Danny Williams vs. John McDermott Tonight
By Nate Anderson: Hard-punching British heavyweight Danny Williams (39-6, 31 KOs) returns to the ring tonight after only two months since his highly exciting controversial bout with Russian Konstantin Airich on May 30th in Spain. Williams, 35, will be facing John McDermott (25-3, 16 KOs) for the BBBofC British heavyweight title at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Dagenham, in Essex.
This is a fight that is almost guaranteed to end in an early knockout one way or another, for both fighters like to slug it out early in their fights, although McDermott, 28, the more technical of the two fighters, has the ability to box when he wants to. In two out of his last three fights, Williams has been hurt early on in his fights with Oleg Platov and Airich, but both times he came roaring back to score impressive knockouts. Williams isn’t likely going to change his brawling style against McDermott tonight, so one could expect another early knockout, whether that be Williams or McDermott. As usual, Williams will be coming into the bout in his mid 260s, which is a good weight for him, since he previously defeated Mike Tyson at that weight four years ago in July 2004.
Williams: He [David Haye] Could Beat Any Heavyweight Without a Warm-up”
By Dan Ambrose: In an interview with Setanta Sports, heavyweight Danny Williams was very complimentary of British heavyweight David Haye, going so far as to say that he has tremendous speed and power. He has absolutely everything. He could beat any heavyweight without a warm-up.” At the same time, Williams also wasn’t impressed with challenger Tony Thompson’s performance against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, calling it “absolutely sickening” and “disgusting.” Apparently, Williams felt that Thompson didn’t give it his all in the fight, and held back rather than trying to take the fight to Klitschko.
Danny Williams vs. Konstantin Airich: Should There Be a Rematch?
By Erik Schmidt: Let me start off by saying, last Friday night’s bout between Danny Williams (39-6, 31 KOs) and Konstantin Airich (9-1-1, 8 KOs) was a terrible fight in terms of the job done by the referee of the fight, who appeared to do everything wrong in the ring, ranging from calling multiple standing eight counts, to penalizing Williams needlessly over and over again with much of a reason. That said, the action in the fight was some of the most exciting that I’ve seen in quite some time, and whether want to accept this or not, this fight was arguably the best heavyweight fight of the year, perhaps even the best in two years or more.
We saw each fighter going down in the fight, in Airich’s case he saw the canvas close hand twice. So what if the 6th round was stopped a little earlier than expected, everything was made right in the 7th when Airich’s corner threw in the towel. However, I think this fight needs to be done over, next time of course with a different referee, and possibly a different country other than Spain. Germany would probably be the best location, because we’d be able to bring in a larger audience than any other location for the fight, since both Williams and Airich probably wouldn’t sell that well in other parts of the world such as America or England.
