O’Sullivan: Eubank Jr. can give Golovkin problems

eubank4

By Scott Gilfoid: #13 WBA Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (22-2, 15 KOs) believes that his former conqueror Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) has the kind of talent that would enable him to give the super talented Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) problems. O’Sullivan is impressed with Eubank Jr’s conditioning.

O’Sullivan says he doesn’t know how good Eubank Jr’s chin is because he didn’t catch him with a clean enough shot in their fight last December. Eubank Jr. won that fight by a 7th round knockout. O’Sullivan did appear to shake Eubank Jr. up in the early rounds before he gassed out and stopped throwing punches.

Golovkin could be facing Eubank Jr. in September in the UK. We’re going to find out this week if the fight can get made. If Eubank Jr’s promoter Eddie Hearn isn’t able to negotiate the fight with Triple G this week, then it’s likely Golovkin’s management will look in another direction towards someone else.

Hearn confident Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. negotiations completed this week

hearn

By Patrick McHugh: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says he’s highly optimistic that the middleweight title fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) and Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) will get done this week.

Hearn says there are some small things he’s working out with Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler. He sees those things as nothing big enough to keep the match from taking place.

Eubank Jr’s lack of power will hurt him against Golovkin

eubank9

By Scott Gilfoid: If you want to look any one area in Chris Eubank Jr’s game that will limit his chances of success against unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs), it’s his lack of power. Eubank Jr. simply does not punch hard enough for him to keep a knockout artist like GGG off of him.

Without Eubank Jr. having enough pop in his punches to gain the respect of Golovkin, it means he’s going to be getting hit an awful lot by the Kazakhstan fighter for as long as their fight lasts. It’s hard for me to understand why Eubank Jr. can’t punch. I don’t know why. I just know that he lacks the spark that you like to see from a fighter when it comes to the power department. Eubank Jr. is more of a high volume type of guy than a puncher.

Eubank Jr. to Golovkin: “Your belts are going to be ripped from you”

eubank74

By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) didn’t react too well earlier today to IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) asking the Twitter world, ‘Who’s ready for a fight?” Eubank Jr. immediately fired off both barrels at GGG, saying that he knows who he’ll be fighting next.

Eubank Jr. added that he’s going to forcefully take the belts from Golovkin and bring them back to the UK, where he plans on keeping them for ages. If this pipe dream does work out like Eubank Jr. sees in his vision, then I sure hope he doesn’t keep the IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC belts hostage while he defends them against the likes of Tom Doran. I mean, Eubank Jr. hasn’t been exactly setting the world on fire lately with his gawd awful opposition he’s been fighting.

Haye: Eubank Jr. capable of beating Golovkin

eubank149

By Scott Gilfoid: Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) has very little chance of beating KO artist Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in September for his IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight straps. The boxing world as a whole sees Eubank Jr. as pretty much over-matched against Golovkin, except for a small few. David Haye believes Eubank Jr. has got the goods to pull off the upset against GGG.

Haye says he sparred with Eubank Jr. in the past, and he’s seen him spar with former super middleweight champion Carl Froch and George Groves, two fighters that were bigger than him. Golovkin, 5’10 ½”is a little shorter than the 5’11” Eubank Jr. However, Golovkin’s punching power is extraordinary, whereas Eubank Jr. only has moderate punching power. He does not have major power. Eubank Jr. wins his fights basically by out-landing his opposition, and hitting them with a lot of uppercuts, which is his favorite weapon. If you take away Eubank Jr’s uppercuts, he’s a very ordinary fighter.

Chris Eubank Jr must distance himself from his father

eubank9144

By Rishad Marquardt: In the last few months, the momentum of Chris Eubank Jr’s ascent into the upper tier of the middleweight division has become ever more evident from his increased media exposure and increased airtime on big fight undercards. The Blackwell fight, and its momentarily gruesome aftermath, further underlined Eubank Jr’s emboldening presence in the British and, to a certain extent, international boxing scene.

While some may argue this is largely down to him sharing the Eubank name with his father, a figure with a thrilling career himself in the fight game, it would be grossly unfair to deny Eubank Jr of the credit he deserves for his endeavors in the ring up to this point.

Eubank Jr. expected to pocket $4M for Golovkin fight

eubank12

By Allan Fox: #2 WBA, #2 WBC middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) will be getting a huge payday in his proposed fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) if the fight can get made. Eubank Jr. could make a little over $4 million for the fight, according to the Dailymail. The contracts for the fight are expected to be signed by the end of this week. Eubank Jr’s promoter Eddie Hearn wants the Golovkin-Eubank Jr. fight to take place at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Golovkin is expected to go along with whatever venue that is suggested by Hearn. This is going to be Eubank Jr’s chance to show that he’s willing to take on the best by facing Golovkin. If Eubank Jr. fails to sign the contract, he’ll be widely criticized by boxing fans and the media.

Barker doubts Eubank Jr. can beat Golovkin

eubank65

By Patrick McHugh: Former IBF middleweight champion Darren Barker doesn’t see Chris Eubank Jr. as having the ability of shocking the world if he winds up challenging multi-160lb belt holder Gennady “GGG” Golovkin this year. Barker understands that Eubank Jr. is extremely confident of his ability, but he still doubts whether he can pull off an upset as big as this one in him facing an A-level fighter like Triple G.

Barker notes that the 26-year-old Eubank Jr. would be going from fighting domestic level opposition like he’s been doing recently to face the No. 1 middleweight in the division in GGG. Barker thinks that step up might be too big of one for Eubank Jr.

Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. possible for August 27

Image: Golovkin vs. Eubank Jr. possible for August 27

By Scott Gilfoid: The much talked about fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) and Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) have a working date of August 27 on Sky Box Office in the UK, according to Dan Rafael. With the Golovkin-Eubank Jr. fight possible for 8/27, it will push the unification match between IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook and WBO 147lb champion Jessie Vargas for September 24 on Sky Box Office.

There’s no way that both PPV broadcasts could take place in September, because that would be asking a lot of the British fans to have to pay for two PPV events rather than one.
Eubank Jr. and his promoters at Matchroom Sport have a deadline of this week to sign the contract for the Golovkin fight. If they don’t get the fight negotiated in the next two days, then Golovkin and his promoter Tom Loeffler will be moving on to face another opponent that they can sign quickly.
