Stiverne not looking past Arreola fight towards Deontay Wilder

stiverne33(Photo credit: Goosen Tutor) By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) isn’t looking past his opponent #2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) in their second and hopefully their last fight together this Saturday night at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Stiverne whipped Arreola by a 12 round decision last year in April, but the WBC decided it would be a good idea for them to fight again for the vacant WBC heavyweight title after champion Vitali Klitschko vacated the strap this year.

The winner of the Arreola-Stiverne fight has to fight the WBC mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) unless they can get the WBC to give them permission to face IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in a unification bout, which is a distinct possibility given Wladimir’s interest in capturing that strap.

Stiverne to Arreola: I’m going to take your head off

YouTube video
By Allan Fox: #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) showed his mean side today at the final press conference with #2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) for their fight on Saturday night at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Stiverne and Arreola will be fighting for the vacant WBC heavyweight title that was recently vacated by Vitali Klitschko. Stiverne is usually a quiet, unassuming type of heavyweight, but today, Stiverne really after Arreola in trash talking him in describing what he’ll be doing to him on Saturday night.

Deontay Wilder’s next opponent to be decided this Saturday

deontay11By Scott Gilfoid: This Saturday night we’re going to be seeing the next opponent for unbeaten heavyweight talent #3 WBC Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO’s) in the rematch between #2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) and #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA. In a indication of what Showtime and HBO thought of the Arreola-Stiverne rematch, they passed on the idea of televising the fight. Instead of the fight being televised on one of those cable giants, ESPN will be televising the fight on Saturday.

That’s kind of an indication that the World Boxing Council made a mistake of picking Arreola and Stiverne to fight for the vacant WBC title rather than someone like Deontay. It was only last year when Stiverne gave Arreola a pounding in winning an easy 12 round decision.

Arreola vs. Stiverne this Saturday for vacant WBC heavyweight title on ESPN

arreola777By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) and #2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) will be meeting up this Saturday night on ESPN to fight for vacant WBC heavyweight title at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California. This is a rematch of a fight that took place last year in April in which Stiverne easily beat Arreola by a 12 round unanimous decision. Stiverne broke Arreola’s nose, and knocked him down once in the fight to earn the victory.

The only reason that the two heavyweights are battling again is because the WBC decided for some reason to give Arreola another shot, even it doesn’t make any sense at all that the two fighting again. Stiverne easily beat Arreola, and the World Boxing Council should have pushed one of the top contenders such as Deontay Wilder to the No.2 spot to face Stiverne. By not doing this it likely caused the major networks to reject the fight, because the last thing they need is to televise another one-sided heavyweight clash like the Arreola-Stiverne fight.

Wladimir wants Arreola-Stiverne winner

wladimir331By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 52 KO’s) did a great job tonight in defeating challenger Alex Leapai (30-5-3, 24 KO’s) by a 5th round stoppage at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

The win over the outclassed Leapai has Wladimir now set to defend against his IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev for later on this year. However, Wladimir has his eyes set on trying to get a fight against the winner of the May 10th fight between Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola for the WBC heavyweight title.

Vanes Martirosyan to fight on May 10th on Arreola vs. Stiverne card

martirosyan45By Dan Ambrose: #11 WBO Vanes Martirosyan (34-1-1, 21 KO’s) will be making a quick return to the ring next month on May 10th against an opponent still to be determined on the Chris Arreola vs. Bermane Stiverne 2 card at the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles, California. Martirosyan, who is no longer promoted by Top Rank, wants to make up for lost time and wants to fight as often as possible to take his career to the next level.

Still young at 27, Martirosyan’s career has been in quicksand for the past four years with him seemingly fighting mostly endless tune-up bouts against older fighters without stepping it up in a consistent basis. He fought to a 9 round technical draw against Erislandy Lara in 2012, and he lost a 12 round split decision to Demetrius Andrade last November, but those were pretty much the only real meaningful fights he had during his career other than his controversial 10 round decision win over Kassim Ouma in 2010.

Arreola says he won’t get complacent against Stiverne in rematch

arreola5(Photo Credit Vincent Vallejo/Goossen Tutor) By Dan Ambrose: Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) blames his previous defeat at the hands of Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) on him getting careless in the fight resulting in him getting his nose broken. Arreola says he’s not going to let down his guard for his rematch against Stiverne in their fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight title on May 10th at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Arreola realizes he can’t mess up and lose this fight because it may be a while before he gets another crack at a title.

Arreola: A Mexican American will have the WBC heavyweight title on May 10th

arreola1By Dan Ambrose: #2 WBC, Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) is convinced that he’s going to defeat #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1, 20 KO’s) in their fight for the vacant WBC heavyweight title on May 10th, and that he’ll become the first Mexican American to capture a heavyweight title when he faces the hard hitting Stiverne at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Arreola took a beating last year in losing to Stiverne by a 12 round unanimous decision. Arreola is blaming the defeat on him suffering an injury to his nose in the 3rd round, and he thinks the fight should have been stopped due to the injury.

Arreola-Stiverne to take place in Los Angeles, CA on May 10th

arreola43By Allan Fox: The May 10th fight between #1 WBC Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20 KO’s) and #2 WBC Chris Arreola (36-3, 31 KO’s) will be staged at the Galen Center, in Los Angeles, California, USA. The fight will be televised by ESPN, as Showtime and HBO failed to go for buying the fight for some reason. The previous Arreola-Stiverne fight from a year ago didn’t bring in huge ratings, so that might have something to do with it.

Southern California was pretty much the only place where an Arreola-Stiverne fight would bring in a lot of fans given that Arreola is from Southern California and has a big fan base over there. There was talk of possibly staging the fight in Mexico, but that might not have worked because Arreola isn’t from Mexico. He was born in Los Angeles, and it might have been a mistake in staging it in Mexico.
