By Jason Kim: Former world title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio (54-6-1, 47 KO’s) will be facing 41-year-old journeyman and former WBC welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir (49-14-6, 15 KO’s) on Saturday night in a fight for the vacant World Boxing Federation super middleweight title at the Gimnasio Miguel Aleman Valdez, in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Rubio, #4 WBO, #6 WBC, is working his way back up towards another title shot after failing in his fight against WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last February in a 12 round decision loss. Rubio was never hurt against Chavez Jr. and fought well but didn’t have the size to compete with the 180 pounder. The 6’0″ height of Chavez Jr wasn’t the problem for the 5’10” Rubio.

By Eric Thomas: With the California State Athletic Commission stripping away the licenses of both Antonio Margarito (37-6, 27 KOs) and his excellent trainer Javier Capetillo on Tuesday, revoking the licenses for a minimum of one year, his promoter Bob Arum is looking to keep him active by having him fight in June or July in Mexico possibly against Argentinean Carlos Baldomir (44-12-6, 13 KOs). This would be a great fight for Margarito, one sure to interest many Mexicans who despite the controversy over Antonio’s problems with illegal hand wraps being put on him mistakenly by his trainer before Margarito’s January 24th fight with Shane Mosley, is still a very popular fighter in Mexico.
By Chris Williams: A fight that has caused little commotion, though it should, is the WBC title eliminator bout between Jackson Osei (30-2, 23 KOs) and former WBC welterweight champion Carlos Manuel Baldomir (44-12-6, 13 KOs), which saw Bonsu winning the fight by a 12-round majority decision on Saturday, December 20th at Lotto Arena, Antwerpen, in Antwerpen, Belgium. The final judges’ scores were 114-113, 114-112 and 113-113. However, I had Bonsu, the hometown fighter, winning only three of the rounds and losing the remainder.
By Scott Gilfoid: Former World Boxing Council welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir (44-11-6, 13 KOs) reportedly wants a fight with top fighters Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey or Miguel Cotto according to Sycuan Ringside Promotions. The 37 year-old Baldomir hasn’t seen action since his 10-round majority decision win over light middleweight Luciano Perez in November 2007. Though Baldomir states that he’s interested in fighting one of the top welterweights in the division, it’s very questionable whether he can make the 147 pound weight limit at this stage in his career.
In a battle between two 36-year-old former welterweight champions, Carlos Baldomir (43-10-6, 13 KOs) meets up with Vernon Forrest (38-2, 28 KOs) on Saturday, July 28, at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington. Baldomir is coming off an eight-month layoff since losing his WBC welterweight title to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in November 2006. However, not one to take things easy, Baldomir is showing his extraordinary courage by choosing Vernon Forrest, a former IBF and WBC welterweight champion, as his first bout back rather than an easy tune-up fighter.
