By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten super middleweight Anthony Dirrell (24-0, 21 KO’s) will be facing the capable Don Mouton (12-6-1, 6 KO’s) in a scheduled 8 round bout at the Cosmopolitan Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Dirrell, 28, hasn’t fought in over a year since his 4th round stoppage win over Renan St. Juste in a WBC super middleweight title eliminator in December, 2011. Last year in May, Dirrell suffered a broken leg and hand in a motorcycle accident.
The tragedy of all this was that Dirrell was going to be fighting for the WBC 168 lb. strap against Nikola Sjekloca in a fight that was scheduled for July. Dirrell would have mopped the deck with Sjekloca had that fight taken place and that’s just too bad because it was such an easy fight.
By Allan Fox: For some reason boxing fans haven’t scooped up the tickets for this Saturday’s fight between WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
By Eric Thomas: Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) isn’t discouraged at all about getting beaten by WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night in New York.
by Joe Walker: This weekend we see the return of Floyd Mayweather after 12 months out and 63 days in jail. As normal there is massive interest in the fight between Floyd and his opponent Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero.
By Chris Williams: Former IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-2, 20 KO’s) wants to stick it out at 122 a little longer to try and capture the WBC super bantamweight title against champion Victor Terrazas (37-2-1, 21 KO’s) in October.
By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it doesn’t look like Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) will be “cleaning up” the light welterweight division like he’s said so many times in the past. After having gone life and death with the 2nd tier Julio Diaz (40-8-1, 29 KO’s) last Saturday night in winning a close 12 round decision, Khan is now saying he wants only one more fight at 140 before moving up to 147 to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. or the other top welterweights in the division.
By Robert Elmore: The judges told Pernell Whitaker that he did not do enough to earn a victory against the more popular Julio Cesar Chavez in 1993; Mike McCallum against the more popular James Toney in 1992; Lennox Lewis against the more popular Evander Holyfield (the first fight); Austin Trout against more popular Saul Alvarez; Martin Murray against the more Sergio Martinez; Juan Manuel Marquez against the more popular Manny Pacquiao.
By Adam Mccoy: I understand in boxing critics are everywhere. A fighter could have a near perfect fight winning every round in the process but still has to answer his critics after the fight. Maybe he didn’t stick to the jab enough? He got caught and his legs buckled slightly so he now may have a glass chin. It all gets ridiculous if you ask me. I’d like to take this time to talk about heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s).
By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. suffered a bloody nose last Friday during a sparring session to get ready for his fight this Saturday night against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to AP, Mayweather was nailed by a forearm that somehow was able to get in between his head-gear during the sparring session and bloody his nose.
