Anthony Dirrell vs. Don Mouton this Friday, May 3rd in Las Vegas, Nevada

dirrell23134By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten super middleweight Anthony Dirrell (24-0, 21 KO’s) will be facing the capable Don Mouton (12-6-1, 6 KO’s) in a scheduled 8 round bout at the Cosmopolitan Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Dirrell, 28, hasn’t fought in over a year since his 4th round stoppage win over Renan St. Juste in a WBC super middleweight title eliminator in December, 2011. Last year in May, Dirrell suffered a broken leg and hand in a motorcycle accident.

The tragedy of all this was that Dirrell was going to be fighting for the WBC 168 lb. strap against Nikola Sjekloca in a fight that was scheduled for July. Dirrell would have mopped the deck with Sjekloca had that fight taken place and that’s just too bad because it was such an easy fight.

Mayweather vs. Guerrero fight still not sold out for MGM Grand

Floyd MayweatherBy Allan Fox: For some reason boxing fans haven’t scooped up the tickets for this Saturday’s fight between WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fight still isn’t sold out for the 16,800 seat MGM Grand, and that makes you wonder if Mayweather is losing his ticket selling magic. It obviously doesn’t help Mayweather one bit that he selected an opponent in Guerrero who doesn’t have a big fan base.

Abner Mares faces Daniel Ponce De Leon this Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas

YouTube video
By Allan Fox: WBC featherweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon (44-4, 35 KO’s) will be making his first defense of his tile this Saturday night against former two division world champion Abner Mares (25-0-1, 13 KO’s) in a Showtime/CBS pay-per-view bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This fight is going to be a real test for both fighters because each of them has a lot to prove. De Leon, 32, needs to prove that he can beat the elite fighters in the sport because he’s failed in the past in defeats against Juan Manuel Lopez, Adrien Broner and Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Judah wants Mayweather-Guerrero winner and/or Garcia rematch

judah43By Eric Thomas: Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) isn’t discouraged at all about getting beaten by WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night in New York.

Judah reportedly wants to fight the winner of this Saturday’s fight between Floyd Mayweather and Robert “The Ghost’ Guerrero. Judah has lost two out of his last three fights, and that would make it kind of a tough sell to have him fighting the winner of the Mayweather-Guerrero fight.

The King Returns: Mayweather vs. Guerrero on May 4th in Las Vegas

floyd10by Joe Walker: This weekend we see the return of Floyd Mayweather after 12 months out and 63 days in jail. As normal there is massive interest in the fight between Floyd and his opponent Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero.

The build up has been the same as any other fight with both camps claiming there intent to win, and all the other talk that goes with build ups.

Guerrero is saying it his job to humble Mayweather before God and everyone else. Mayweather is calling Guerrero a hypocrite because of his beliefs in the light of his gun charge.

Donaire targeting Terrazas for fight in October for WBC 122 lb. title

donaire22By Chris Williams: Former IBF/WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-2, 20 KO’s) wants to stick it out at 122 a little longer to try and capture the WBC super bantamweight title against champion Victor Terrazas (37-2-1, 21 KO’s) in October.

According to Donaire’s facebook, his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank wants Donaire to go after then Top Rank promoted Terrazas for his World Boxing Council 122 lb. title instead of having him move up to featherweight to look for fights up there.

Khan: I want one more fight before I move up to 147 to face Mayweather

khan44By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it doesn’t look like Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) will be “cleaning up” the light welterweight division like he’s said so many times in the past. After having gone life and death with the 2nd tier Julio Diaz (40-8-1, 29 KO’s) last Saturday night in winning a close 12 round decision, Khan is now saying he wants only one more fight at 140 before moving up to 147 to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. or the other top welterweights in the division.

Khan wants to fight Danny Garcia or Lamont Peterson next in December, but he may end up having to face Lucas Matthysse if he ends up emerging on top of the unofficial light welterweight tourney that Golden Boy Promotions is putting on.

Judges robbing or challengers not doing enough?

murray57By Robert Elmore: The judges told Pernell Whitaker that he did not do enough to earn a victory against the more popular Julio Cesar Chavez in 1993; Mike McCallum against the more popular James Toney in 1992; Lennox Lewis against the more popular Evander Holyfield (the first fight); Austin Trout against more popular Saul Alvarez; Martin Murray against the more Sergio Martinez; Juan Manuel Marquez against the more popular Manny Pacquiao.

With the exception of Marquez, McCallum, and Murray, Trout, Lewis, Whitaker had titles during their bouts. But each of these fighters share a common interest; they all out landed their opponents according to compu box numbers (Except Marquez). But boxing has always said in order to take the title from a champion.

Winning is the game and Tyson Fury is the name

fury54By Adam Mccoy: I understand in boxing critics are everywhere. A fighter could have a near perfect fight winning every round in the process but still has to answer his critics after the fight. Maybe he didn’t stick to the jab enough? He got caught and his legs buckled slightly so he now may have a glass chin. It all gets ridiculous if you ask me. I’d like to take this time to talk about heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s).

Tyson is a boy compared to the vast majority of heavyweights. He’s 24 years old and sometimes seems to be punching above his weight slightly. Admittedly, yes, if Tyson stepped in the ring right now with Wladimir Klitschko (59-3 50Ko), I don’t think it would end well for Fury. However, what is the shame is Tyson fighting Wladimir and losing? I see a lot of people saying Tyson will get destroyed if he faces either of the Klitschko brothers and, yes, maybe he would but what’s the problem.

Mayweather Jr. suffers a bloody nose in sparring for Guerrero fight

floyd32By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. suffered a bloody nose last Friday during a sparring session to get ready for his fight this Saturday night against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to AP, Mayweather was nailed by a forearm that somehow was able to get in between his head-gear during the sparring session and bloody his nose.

Luckily for Mayweather, his nose wasn’t broken from the shot, but it’s still a dangerous thing to happen this close to the fight. An injury to Mayweather’s nose would cause the fight to be postponed and that would be bad news for everyone, especially Mayweather because he’s got 30 months to fulfill a six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS.
