The machine that is Cuban boxing

By Tom David Drury: It is widely known that Cubans are obsessed with amateur boxing, and for many years wiped the floor with all-comers (and especially the U.S) at successive Olympic games. But apart from the great Teofilo Stevenson (probably the best boxer to never turn Professional ) and Felix Savon, both of whom won three successive Olympic heavyweight gold’s, I’d be surprised if any of us have any real knowledge of Cuban fighting history.

Time will tell about Donaire’s move to Golden Boy

Mixed emotions have poured into the different websites either supporting Donaire’s move or not supporting it. But out of this whole ordeal, it has been Nonito’s wife, Rachel, that has been doing most of the talking. There are many angles to view this, but this is mines.

Boxers like Victor Galindez,John Conteh,Mate Parlov,Marvin Johnson,Miguel Cuello,Mike Rossman,Saad Muhammad,Eddie Mustapha Muhammad,Michael Spinks and Dwight Muhammad Quai emerged as champions. There were also several formidable contenders. Men like Yaqui Lopez,Pierre Fourie,Ritchie Kates,Jesse Burnett,Len”Stinger” Hutchins,James Scott,Jerry Celestine,Vonzell Johnson and Jerry “The Bull” Martin.

Ortiz says he’s going to knock Berto out on April 16th

By Dan Ambrose: WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KO’s) is happy to be fighting light welterweight Victor Ortiz (28-2-2, 22 KO’s) on April 16th at the Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mashantucket, Connecticut. Berto, 27, will be making his sixth defense of his World Boxing Council belt with three of them coming against light welterweights instead of fighters from his own weight class.
