By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (12-0, 7 KO’s) will be held out of the ring for the next three months to heal the deep cut that he sustained over his eye during training for his fight agaisnt David Gegeshidze last week. The cut reopened during the the fight after Hughie got nailed by a hard right hand from Gegeshidze. Hughie got he victory by a 4th round stoppage, but having the cut reopened was definitely a negative for the 6’6″ fighter.
As such, his fights that Hughie scheduled for December have been canceled and instead he’ll be fighting next on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs. David Haye against a still to be determined opponent on February 8th at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, UK. It would be nice to see Hughie not matched against a stiff, but I guess that’s going to be pretty much what we’ll be seeing for the 19-year-old unfortunately.
By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (12-0, 7 KO’s) will be out of action until next month when he returns to the ring to fight Danny Hughes (11-2-2, 3 KO’s) for the WBC junior heavyweight title on December 14th.
By Scott Gilfoid: Hughie Fury (12-0, 7 KO’s) picked up his 7th stoppage of his still young career with a harder than expected 4th round TKO win over 32-year-old David Gegeshidze (10-5-1, 2 KO’s) at the City Academy Sports Centre in Bristol, UK. The fight was stopped after Hughie hit the badly out of shape Gegeshidze with several clubbing right hands to the head in the 4th. The referee stepped in and waived it off rather than letting Hughie try to finish the pot-bellied Gegeshidze.
By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (11-0, 6 KO’s) continues with his improbable chase of Mike Tyson’s heavyweight record for the youngest heavyweight champion in facing little known David Gegeshidze (10-4-1, 2 KO’s) at the City Academy Sports Centre, Bristol, Avon, United Kingdom. This isn’t much of a step up for young Hughie from his last two fights against Dorian Darch and Hrvoje Kisicek.
