thurman43 - CopyBy Dan Ambrose: #4 WBA, Keith Thurman (20-0, 18 KO’s) will be fighting #1 WBA, Diego Chaves (22-0, 18 KO’s) in a battle of unbeaten between fighters with near identical records on July 27th for the interim WBA welterweight title at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The winner of the Thurman-Chaves fight will lock themselves down as the mandatory challenger for WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi. British Boxing Board of Control investigating Froch for comments made about Kessler

CARLFROCHRELAXES887571f(Photo Credit: Lawrence Lustig) By Scott Gilfoid: The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBof C) is reportedly investigating IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch after he made comments about potentially killing his opponent WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) in their fight on Saturday night in London, UK.

Froch got himself worked up and said this as quoted by the Telegraph.co.uk “If I have to I will kill this f*****. I will kill him. It sounds brutal, it sounds horrible, but that is what it means to me…when I smash his face in, I am going for the kill.”

Robert Smith, the general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, said to Sky Sports “We are looking into it and will deal with it accordingly…we are not in a position to do anything about it before the fight.”

By Scott Gilfoid: WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly, who was selected to spar with WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 32 KO’s) recently, can’t pick a winner between him and IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) for their fight this Saturday night. Matthysse looks for Danny Garcia

matthysse564By Robbie Bannatyne: After light welterweight Lucas Matthysse knocked Lamont Peterson’s lights out in the 3rd round of their encounter on Saturday night in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Paulie Malignaggi, Showtime analyst and current welterweight champion, gushed “It is literally like a bomb exploding every time he lands a punch.”

And much like his punches, Matthysse the man, is also like a bomb that has been waiting to go off.

It seems like the top light-welterweights signed an unofficial treaty to deny Matthysse the chance to take them on for their titles, as his two bouts with Zab Judah and Devon Alexander apart, he spent the vast majority of his career in the wilderness of his homeland, Argentina: boxing’s equivalent of Siberia.

Froch not thrilled with co-feature bout – Groves vs. Gonzalez – on his undercard for Saturday

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) says the co-feature bout on his pay per view card this Saturday matching unbeaten super middleweight champion George Groves (18-0, 14 KO’s) vs. Noe Gonzalez (30-2, 22 KO’s) isn’t a good fight. Froch is fighting WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) in the main event, but Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn decided to match Groves up with #11 WBC Noe Gonzalez, a fighter who was knocked out in the 2nd round last year by Adonis Stevenson in April.

Amir Khan interested in fighting Matthysse

khan1010By Mark Havey: Recently we witnessed Lucas Matthysse annihilate Lamont Peterson. Matthysse certainly made a statement and made the world take notice in the process. I wasn’t at all surprised that Peterson was outclassed by the talented knocked out specialized from Argentina. But I was shocked at how brutal and powerful Matthysse was, considering Peterson has never been stopped.

Amir Khan was at the fight eager to check out his possible future opponents. Danny Garcia was also there. Peterson, Matthysse, Khan and Garcia are all likely to face each other in the future. Khan has lost to two already and personally I think he should focus his energy on avenging those defeats. He has repeatedly stated that is what he wants. However he has now thrown himself into the mix by saying he wants Matthysse.

Hearn: Khan outboxes Matthysse all day

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: WBC interim light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) may have just come off an impressive 3rd round stoppage victory over Lamont Peterson last Saturday night, but the victory wasn’t enough to impressive Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn enough to think Matthysse would do well against Amir Khan.

Hearn thinks Khan would still out-box Matthysse if that fight were to be made.
