By Chris Thomas: In the latest boxing news, former WBC/WBA light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver (26-4, 19 KOs) wants a fight with the undefeated super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe, who is currently getting prepared for his next bout against light heavweight Bernard Hopkins. Tarver, at 39 years-old, would figure to be in the last stages of his career. However, given the fact that the light heavyweight division is perhaps the weakest in all of boxing, he finds himself as still one of the best fighters in the division.

Woods vs. Tarver on April 12th

International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods (41-3-1, 24 KOs) will be dfending his title against two-time light heavyweight champion, and occasional actor, Antonio Tarver (26-4, 19 KOs) on April 12th, at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida. For the most part, it will be a battle of aging light heavyweights, as the combined age of the two fighters comes out to 74. However, both fighters still appear to be fighting remarkably well and seem to have a lot left despite their advanced age. Tarver, 39, hasn’t done much in the boxing rang since losing a 12-round unanimous decision to Bernard Hopkins in June 2006.

Tarver vs. Lacy On April 12th

International Boxing Organization light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver (26-4, 19 KOs) is reportedly preparing for a bout against former International Boxing Federation super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy (23-1, 17 KOs) on April 12th, possibly to take place at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida. Lacy, 30, was at one time one of the top super middleweights in the division, that is, until he met up with Joe Calzaghe, who pounded Lacy without mercy, beating him by an easy one-sided 12-round unanimous decision on March 4th, 2006.

Tarver Santiago: Antonio Defends His IBO Title On Saturday

Light heavyweight International Boxing Organization champion Antonio Tarver (25-4, 18 KOs) defends his little known title against Danny Santiago (29-3-1, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the Foxwoods Casino, in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Tarver, 39, is still trying to rebuild his career after suffering a one-sided 12-round unanimous decision loss to Bernard Hopkins in June 2006. Though Tarver only lost his IBO light heavyweight title at the time, the damage to his career was much worse because Hopkins was moving up in weight to challenge Tarver.
